Vettel was looking good this morning. I wonder how many miles he got to run in the car prior to Turkey Practice Sessions.
I think it was Varsha, or maybe Matchett said this morning during practice that Petrol Ofisi is only on the car for the race in Turkey.
Maybe they just gave them enough money for the paint job. :D
Jenson seemed to be doing pretty well. I hope he keeps up the speed he showed in practice.

So, the "interesting" development on the Toyota is an extra set of horizontal slats in the red paint there?
I was almost expecting a biplane front wing like Renault had in Hungary.

Look closer. The old wing had a wider "droopy section." It came down, and had a flat section on the bottom. The new wing has a much more pointy "droopy section."

Ah yes, the pointy droopy school of mechanics. I do subscribe to their engineering journal. :p
Yeah, I kinda missed that too. So, there are a few subtle massages, but nothing nearly as dramatic as their press release had me believeing.

Too late for my picks?
1. MSC
2. ALO
3. MAS
4. RAK
5. PDR
6. FIS
7. BUT
8. RSC
Raikkonen owned the place last year, but they've just not got the pace. Stupid Bridgestones will work great in the hot, and MSC will probably show everyone how great he is in quali by running a lap like .4 faster than everyone else, right at the end. I think Alonso will be right on his tail for a little while, but should fade over time.

Ferrari would have been thrown out for doing team orders like that and Massa would have probably quit on the spot if they did an Irvine and forgot the car needs 4 tyres. He is told his job is to support Schumacher, yes, I get that. But just because he is told what he is supposed to do, if you dominated your teammate the entire weekend and then were told to move over, would you want to? Of course not. This could be the only year Massa has a chance to win a race if he is dropped and there are no top drives. I wouldn't want to give up one of my only chances for a win (Like Mika Salo in Germany 99) no matter what my contract says.

I never thought I would think of Massa and the word flawless together when I 1st saw him in a Sauber. He has always been quick but has made a lot of mistakes too. Ever since his wreck in quali in Monaco he has turned a very nice corner.
Stu, I disagree. Rubens did it for Michael at the A1 Ring back in '01 I think and Massa would have too. He would not have been happy to pull over but he knows that he should always allow MS to get maxium points as long as the title is up for grabs and its workable. The saftey car period was the best thing in the world to happen for Felipe. It put Alonso ahead of Schu so Felipe had to push to whole time. So it became 100% up to MS to get around Alonso and then catch Felipe.
Great race

I liked watching Massa over the course of the year, and it was becoming obvious that he learned the car (or it was tweaked for him) and got a lot faster. He was so smooth. Nicely done.
| StuBeck | 08-28-2006 11:24 AM |
Rubens was PISSED in 02 when he had to pull over in Austria. But that was in different circumstances because Rubens had already won a few races. For all he knows Massa could be out at the end of the year and it would be at least a year until he was in a winning car (unless he somehow does a swap with Kimi.) I know he probably would have pulled over or they'd botch his stop, but he still wouldn't have done it out happily.
| artkevin | 08-28-2006 12:24 PM |
Yeah, Rubens was pissed but it was his job. It was handled as badly as it could have been. Salo did the same thing for Irvine and Salo to this day says its what he was paid for. Massa would have been highly upset but I am sure it has been expressed to him on more then one ocassion what his role in team Schumacher Ferrari is.
Ferrari couldn't pull to many strings in Turkey. They are still fighting tooth and nail for the CWC and DWC so they need all the points they can get. A 1-3 is better then a 2-3.

Maybe Renault won't challenge. Didn't see this race last year, but watched it Sunday AM.
Man, I love that turn 8.
Overall, great race. Weber/Kubica had a great battle for a while, and Rubens and Trulli were at it too.
It was neat to watch MS's handling go away on turn 8, especially when he was close to Alonso. The closer he was, the more his front end washed out. After a few laps, he started going into 8 a little further behind, but didn't wash out as badly and ended up closer coming out of the turn.
I never would have predicted this, but I really think that Schumacher can pull this out.

I think they are completely within their rights to challenge but I hope they don't. They could pull a "Ferrari" a la 2003 and challenge something they have "known" is illegal for quite awhile. I think they set a very bad standard when they started playing a game of gotcha. I still disagree with the Michelin protest but they have set the standard.
Again, I hope Renault does not protest because I don't think its good for the sport but they its withing their rights. Keep supplying the action they have over the past two races and you'll get a lot more fans without a doubt.

Massa's career, and his driving have arcced (is that word?) in a very positive direction. Smooth and flawless was not how one could describe his seasons @ Sauber. Fast, yes, but... Of course, as he said afterwards, he was never really challenged, except when Michael started turning faster laps in 2nd place prior to the safety car. But otherwise, he was one with his car, and just very fast while cruising and saving it to the checkers. Very impressive!
Kubica's 2nd race, and he is doing well. It is hard to measure his performance, because he and Heidfeld ran different strategies @ Hungary, and again here @ Turkey (Heidfeld being in the 1st turn melee). Still, looking at the lap times, he is very impressive! In particular, back at Hungary, I looked at who was fastest on a particular lap, since it was a wet race w/constantly changing conditions. So the folks that you would expect were in that mix, Mika, Michael, Fernando, but also there was Jenson, (his in-cars showed him to be one of the smoothest drivers in the wet... awesome!), Toyotas, and Kubica (fast guy on three or four different laps, if I recall). It was ironic that Kubica's end results suffered, as did Michael's, from the team's mistake of not calling him in to slap on some dry tires.
I wish F1 would work at removing situations which call for safety cars, (perhaps using more trackside cranes, and better use of local yellows). This race was shaping up to be pretty interesting before the safety car. It was interesting afterwards of course, but we didn't get see what cards the teams were holding as far as fuel and qualifying strategies are concerned. In the end, the safety car dictated the outcome of the race as well... as it usually does. :(

If anything, the race was looking to be a snooze-fest as far as 1-2 prior to the safety car as both red cars were steadily pulling away from the rest of the field. The safety car combined with the stacked pitstop from Ferrari made the race much more interesting.
MS is going to have a tough battle for the WDC, but I think Ferrari has the WCC in the bag as Renault is just not getting much from GF as compared to what Ferrari is getting from FM.

I still can't figure out why they signed him again. I mean, continuity is good and everything. And he has won races.... But the dude has NO consistency, and I think any time he does well it's pretty much just a fluke. There's a lot of drivers out there that are simply too good to hold onto him. He certainly isn't good enough to be a "safety" in case they can't get Kimi or another top driver. Klien and Davidson come to mind as good alternatives to try out. Trulli was better than GF anyday, IMO. Hell, I'd take JV over GF.

Fisi was kept because they wanted someone who knew the car for next year to say "well the car didn't do this last year." That is the only reason, he is also pretty cheap.
Yea, he was on the exit of a blind corner and cars were just missing him. They should have had a safety car for the first turn accident anyways.
My heart was pounding when those cars were coming around that blind corner and just avoiding him....I had a feeling something very nasty was about to happen.
On a side note, When the 2 ferrari's came in nose to tail during the safety car period I was VERY surprised that they didn't make Massa wait while they changed Schumi's tires first, even though Massa was in front, I expected him to overshoot his bay and MS get first treatment. I guess that would have been too blatent.

my heart was pounding too when i saw him get out of the car and then cars were flying by him.
i was also surprise that they didn't bring in MSC first on the safety car period.
