JDM foglight pics? part 2

Ryan314 11-21-2007 11:22 AM

STi fog covers > STi fog lights :p
thewr3tched 11-21-2007 11:44 AM

how deep are these? i'd love to have some, but i'm not sure they will clear the APS DR525 FMIC. anyone know?
Is it normal that I can put the foglight THROUGH the foglight bezel?
Yes, that is normal.
how deep are these? i'd love to have some, but i'm not sure they will clear the APS DR525 FMIC. anyone know?
IIRC, JDM fogs will in fact work with APS FMICs. The standard fogs will work (quick Google check), but search some more here to figure out the JDM fog deal. I asked the same question once upon a time... But never got a FMIC.
Bringing this up from the dead as I just got my multicolored JDM fogs..

I did Not put them on the car yet however when holding the lens and the new fog surround in my hand there is a gap all the way around the JDM foglight...

Think of a circle, and then a smaller circle fitting in the first circle..

All the pictures I have seen they look to be a pretty TIGHT fit as far as the light and surround hole?

Anyone confirm that there is a gap all the way around the actual fog light itself?

Thanks much,
-Nigel
Sweet thanks for the link!

I installed them two days ago... Fing hot... I almost creamed my pants.lol

I installed the multi color jdm fogs and lower prodrive grill.

I'll get pics once I get the headlight armor protective clear covers for them... I dont' get like having a rock hit them and having to pay another $350+ for them..

as for bulbs. the only thing i would even care to recommend is the Tungsram Gold H3's. Awesome, fully yellow light in my (clear) jdm fogs. even the bulb is still clear, not coated, so it doesn't look weird in your housing during the day.

On the opposite side:
I've used PIAA bulbs in several main and fog light apps, and they always go dim and get crappy over time, along with not offering anything special at all to start with other than colored light perhaps. No improved light level output at all. I'm not gonna bash on their great driving lights and such, but their bulbs are just junk like all those other ebay brands, IMHO.

So far I am not happy with the light output at all... Standing outside the car I am in Awe of the color and how it looks. When I get into the driver seats I can't see the light past the nose of the car...

I re-adjusted them so they point higher so we shall see if that has helped tonight when I drive home after work...

Looks wise they look mean as hell! I just hope my light output is increased from adjusting them... will post update and much better pictures once it stops raining and the sun comes out for once...

how easy is it to cut the stock bumper beam? is is absolutely necessary? anybody actually do this over getting the jdm one?

Anyone have these with a front mount intercooler?
how easy is it to cut the stock bumper beam? is is absolutely necessary? anybody actually do this over getting the jdm one?
Yes you HAVE to cut the front bumper beam, if not you not only won't be able to get the lights or brackets in but you will also not be able to put the foglight bezel on...

It took me a couple hours but it's not bad at all. I used and angle grinder to cut the metal.
Looking at it now it's not hard at all. Took some time but not difficult, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being hardest) I would rank this with a 2 MAYBE 3 if that...

I did this because I wanted the thicker bumper beam that the USDM cars have because I have felt the JDM one and as nice as it is to lose 15lbs off the front end I just felt like if I got hit or backed up into that it would cause quite a bit of damage... plus doing it this way saved me $200 that I would have spent on the JDM beam..

The APS DR725 fits with the JDM fogs so I would assume the smaller DR525 should not be a problem.
(seriously, the FMIC is really there )

Since we got this thread open just wondering how all of you have your fogs aimed?

I have mine about 2 inches into the bottom of the headlight beam light.

When I first put them on I was really disappointed as all the light was litterly pointing down.. That and I have recaro seats so I sit lower and my car is lowered as well, I just wanted to get a feel on how everyone is aiming the fogs... Yes I know they are not driving lights but I wanted to see the light over the front of the hood/scoop.

I adjusted mine to be similar to the way you describe yours. Although I am using stock seats and stock suspension.

Back from the dead, but this question has never been answered.

Has anybody been able to install JDM fogs with a Perrin FMIC kit yet? I might order a Perrin FMIC kit tomorrow, and would love to know whether or not I can use my JDM fogs.
Vew 01-22-2008 04:09 PM

You cannot without custom piping and even then it's questionable. I can take photos if you'd like to see if you can make it work.
WRXSteye20008 11-24-2008 06:27 PM

Id rather bump a really old thread then start a new one, but I found this one in advanced search.

Questions:

In a week I will be ordering the JDM Yellow/Multicolor Kit.

1. When on Does the light come out yellow?

2. Could someone link me to these "ion crystal" bulbs from piaa? (I searched and came up with a lot of hmm could that be its?)

3. Are those bulbs yellow?

thats it thanks :) also ALOT of great info in this thread

Reviving this thread...
So I have Hella 500's in my bugeye and I'd like to achieve the yellow/blue look with them like this:

Now, is it the bulb that creates that effect, the lens, or both?
Anyone have any idea on how I could achieve this look with my Hellas? Perhaps a yellow bulb and a blueish rockblocker film?
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks.

If you have hella 500, use the PIA ion bulbs.

With the JDM fogs it's the actual lens that makes them that yellow color.

If you want the yellow look do NOT put the blue film on the fogs...

Pia Ions I had them in my wrx's fogs and LOVED the light output it created... shades of yellow, blueish/green...etc. Whole spectrum of color flicker.

I'm not after yellow light output, I'm after the blue and yellow look of the fogs when they're off, like in the picture above.
I know it's my rice side coming out :) But I think that looks really neat.
Would just PIAA ion bulbs achieve this looks?
RayN 10-04-2009 11:54 PM

no the lens its self is that color.

Handsdown 02-05-2010 08:52 AM

fog light is useless when it's not foggy out. imagine that.
scavman 02-05-2010 06:16 PM

Yeah- I hear you Handsdown.

It's amazing how many drivers really have no idea when they should be using their foglights or not- maybe that's why so many of the OEM fogs these days are next to useless.

If you're on a mountain road and you hit heavy fog that cuts the visibility to 50 feet and below, you'd be glad to have real yellow foglights with a proper dispersion pattern to light your way with good contrast against as you crawl along at slow speed.

Of course, when it's clear and you're flying down the road, fogs are useless and so should be switched off.

The ultimate setup would be a nice set of these JDM fogs or maybe the Hella Micro De plus a set of nice pencil beam drivers like ProjektPhoto's mounted towards the middle of the bumper.
