STICKY: Subaru Corral at the 2003 USGP in Indy-MEGA IMPROVED!!! part 1

Streetman 06-29-2003 03:56 PM

POLICE ESCORT INTO THE TRACK!!! FREE PARKING BOTH DAYS!!!
For those of you who don't know, last year we had 29 cars show up in the infield for the USGP Car Corral. I'd like to shoot for 50 cars this year. They have us set up again for this year, and there are some huge improvements.

- Saturday AND Sunday now-Saves you $40 on parking. General Admission is only $50 for a "season pass" (all three days included).
-Individual manufacturers WILL be separated this year (no stupid Ferrari's uglying up our space)
-Police escort into the track (cool to have the cops ahead of you for a change)
-$10 all you can eat breakfast at the legion
-cars lined up in a display fashion, not just parking
-free again

I'm going to cut and paste the info I received from IMS. Here's the key info you need to know. I also highlighted some points in the info:

-Rental Cars will be parked away from the corral, but will still be free.
-You are allowed 1 parking pass for every 2 tickets you purchase through IMS.
-I AM NOT HANDLING THE PASSES, YOU MUST CALL IMS AT 1-800-822-INDY

Only email me if you are having trouble getting a pass through IMS. I have some extras.

Hope to see ya all again this year!

***Car Club Car Corral Information Sheet***

Where is the Car Corral located?
Inside IMS, the Car Corral will be located near the golf course on the grass west of the lake and east of Hulman Boulevard (which is USGP's back straight for that weekend).

How will we access the Car Corral area? When will we have access?
Vehicles participating in the Car Corral may access the location through Gate 10 off of 30th Street. Proceed south on 30th St through Tunnel 10. Once through Tunnel 10, you will make the first left past the signage carousel onto Shaw Drive. Immediately on the right, past the viewing mound, will be an access road to the Car Corral.

Who is eligible?
Car Club members who have purchased tickets are eligible to participate in the Car Corral. You must have the proper parking placard as well as admission tickets for each person in your vehicle. Parking placards will be mailed to those car club members who have identified themselves to the IMS Ticket Office. If you have purchased tickets and are a car club member, but have not flagged your account as such, please call 800.822.INDY to do so.

Rental cars:
In addition, the Car Corral is a display area and not a parking lot. Car club members must be driving the brand of vehicle affiliated with their car club to gain access to the Car Corral. If you are a car club member and have the parking placard, but are driving a vehicle that is not represented within the Car Corral, you will be directed to the third turn public parking lot.

When is it available?
The Car Corral will be available on both Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th from Gates open until gates close. Because our grandstand guests will be able to access the Car Corral and meander through the vehicles, we would ask that you arrive as early as possible on Sunday (before 9:00 a.m.), in order to make this area safe for our guests. Once the race begins, you will be free to leave at your leisure. You will be required to have both a parking placard as well as tickets for the days activities for each person in your vehicle.

Will there be a police escort?
For those participating in Sundays Car Corral, there will be a police escort available. The escort will meet in the west parking lot of the Downtown Indianapolis Zoo. The escort will leave at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. If you are unable to make the police escort, you can also enter the Car Corral at your leisure through Tunnel 10.

Will there be a breakfast for the Car Corral participants?
A breakfast for all Car Corral members will be offered at the American Legion building on Georgetown Blvd across from Gate 6. The breakfast will be $10 per person payable at the American Legion building. Those interested in participating in the breakfast will be given a one-time special pass out coupon so that they can exit the facility and re-enter after the breakfast. The pass outs will be distributed as you enter the Car Corral display area. There is not a shuttle from the Car Corral to the breakfast or grandstand area. You may access the grandstands and breakfast by using the bridge on Hulman Boulevard and crossing under the track at Tunnel 6.

Corral pass also available with general admission tickets.
*you have to tell them your in the "Subaru club"
generator 06-30-2003 12:14 PM

For those who went to last year's USGP and did not participate in the Corral, you missed out. DON"T MISS OUT THIS YEAR!! It was a blast last year and this years looks be one for the record books. I can't wait, I hope to see everyone there!
Streetman 07-01-2003 10:53 PM

Yeah, I guess I should have noted that.

General admission tickets are only $50 for a three day pass. I think walking around the infield are the best seats in the house anyway.

Another thing I failed to mention is that we can reserve a block of seats, if everyone would like to sit together in one place. And before you think about it, Sections H is sold out. J still has some seats, and I hear that's the place to be. Right at the end of the main straight, going into turn one, you can see most of the first half of the infied section as well.

Anyone who is interested is reserving a whole section, post here. I'll call the rep at IMS if we get enough people together.
10th Warrior 07-02-2003 10:21 AM

down by turn1 was cool last year, especially being with two BMW fans :D
ArtGecko 07-04-2003 11:29 PM

Where'd you find the $35 General Admission prices? I know that's what it was last year, but all I can find for race day is the $50 weekend pass:

http://imstix.brickyard.com/InetTix/OnlineTicketing.aspx

Last year was great, so I'm looking forward to another great time. Hopefully, I'll get a free ticket again. Hmmm, then how will I get a corral pass!
TimStevens 07-08-2003 07:58 AM

I'm going to try to get in on this! I'll post back here if I have any luck calling the above number.

Where's the best place to park for Friday?

there is plenty of parking just outside the track for ~$10 on friday.
Streetman 07-08-2003 01:03 PM

TimStevens-

Where's the luck come in? Call the number, and you'll get passes.
Streetman 07-08-2003 01:08 PM

Just to let everyone know, here's where to get tickets. http://imstix.brickyard.com/InetTix/OnlineTicketing.aspx

They're charging $40 for a two day parking pass to park OUTSIDE the track. We're getting it for free. It's worth it to buy your tickets through IMS, and pay face value. Just get general Admission, for $50 for all three days of practice, qualifying, and racing.

Anyone disagree that general admission is the way to go?

Josh you might have to show them where or how to buy the $35 race day only ticket. I'm like artgecko on prices, I couldn't find it on their site. Do they have to call to get a race day only general admission ticket? I didn't ask because I wanted the 3 day. :)

Daily Admission Price per
Date Type Qty Permit
9/26/03 PRACTICE $10
9/26/03-9/27/03 PRAC/QUAL COMBINATION $25
9/27/03 QUALIFYING $20
9/26/03-9/28/03 SEASON PASS $50

Don't I need to somehow proove that I already ordered tickets for the race? I'm not quite sure how to do that.
Streetman 07-08-2003 02:19 PM

Call the number, and tell update your info with IMS if you ordered through them. Did you get them from IMS?

They should have your order info on file and you just have to ask them to "check you for the Subaru corral". Even though I didn't order stand tickets via mail this year they still had my past info on file(address/phone). If you ordered tix beforehand they will be able to add the corral.

And what Josh just posted about getting them through IMS.
Streetman 07-08-2003 02:34 PM

Just called IMS. I had been misinformed by the other rep, there is only the weekend pass for $50. You cannot get Sunday only. However, that pass is good for anywhere, grandstands included, on Fri and Sat, and infield on Sunday. With free parking, it's still a cheap weekend. I had a grandstand seat last year and stayed there for about 4 laps before I started trecking around the infield.

Another thing I was misinformed about, Section J DOES have seats available.
Streetman 07-08-2003 02:44 PM

Edited my many posts showing general admisshin at $50 for the weekend now.

TimStevens 07-08-2003 04:23 PM

For those of you just looking for General Admission on Sunday only, my GF and I will be buying general admission just for use on Friday and Saturday. I'm not sure how that would work, but if it's possible we'd be happy to split the cost with someone and give over the GA tickets for Sunday.

I think we're up high in section H or J...
Streetman 07-08-2003 04:33 PM

tim-

I'm sure you will find MANY to take those.

Tim Stevens has Sunday only General admission tickets!

$20 I see a "dibs" by sundown.
TimStevens 07-08-2003 04:36 PM

 We'll see what kind of offers I get!
TimStevens 07-08-2003 06:04 PM

Oops... sorry to get anyone's hopes up. Looks like my g/f just ordered the Fri/Sat general admission tickets, not the "season pass", so I won't have Sunday to sell :( Also, we're up in the NW Vista, not H like I'd thought.

Like I said, she ordered the tickets, so don't listen to me on the details :)
Streetman 07-08-2003 06:17 PM

hahahahaha! This thread is full of misinformation.

You were close though, aside from the days, and section, and the...wait, what did you have right?

Are you sure it was your girlfriend you talked to?

TimStevens 07-10-2003 11:46 AM

Ok, talked to the Indy folks and they pulled up my info and added it to my order, so hopefully I'll see ya'll at the corral on Sat and Sun, and maybe at the kart race if anyone wants me as a teammate :)

Streetman 07-10-2003 11:55 AM

Just a few more to go, and we can get the kart race locked in. Damn, it's taken forever.

Anyone else in for karting Friday night?
TimStevens 07-10-2003 12:23 PM

Oh, forgot to say thanks for setting this up Streetman! We appreciate it.
smash0r 07-11-2003 05:14 PM

I do believe I'll be there, hopefully with 2 imprezas :)
Streetman 07-11-2003 06:53 PM

cool, smashor. You call to get your passes?
Streetman 08-02-2003 11:56 PM

karting info updated. It's going to be Saturday night now, as to not conflict with ANYTHING at the track. Perfect. However, you need to sign up quick, or we will lose our timeslot. It's not ours yet, as I don't have half the people signed up. Gimmee a hand already guys.

AND ORDER SOME TICKETS FOR THE USGP ALREADY!!! Less than two months now.
JLMarx 08-04-2003 01:47 PM

Hey guys, I just saw this thread, and I've got some general USGP question for whoever has been before...

1) What area should we try to get a hotel in? (Wow, my grammar suck today.) Should we try for something close to the track or something more in downtown? I've never been to the USPG, but I went to the Canadian GP last year and they had a lot of displays and attractions in downtown Montreal.

2) Should we get a rental car or is there ample public transportation? i.e. subway or light rail or something, not just buses.

3) Getting back to the first question... are there any attractions or things to see/do away from the track, like at night? What are the good bar/nightlife areas in Indy? That karting looks cool too! :)

Thanks for the help guys!

Hotels are not always easy to come by but i have stayed just outh of Indy and that was nice and to to far away. I have always had a hard time trying to find a hotel downtown unless you want to pay alot. I have always stayed about 20 mins outside of the city.

I have always driven around indy. There didn't seem to be the best public tranportation so I would probably get a rent a car its probably easier.

There are things to do when not at the track. There always seems to be something going on at night at one of the Bars or resturants. There are a few good bars downtown. It almost doesn't matter which bar since there seems to be so many people that you could have a good time any were.
dynoguy 08-13-2003 09:19 PM

i'll be there for saturday and sunday. bring a co-worker, and got my corral pass ordered.

Streetman 08-14-2003 12:06 AM

JLMarx-

1) What area should we try to get a hotel in?
North side, about 71st St and north is OK (no crack homes), 86th and north is outstanding. Downtown is probably all booked, or $250 a night and up.

2)...is there ample public transportation?
hahahahahahahaha!!! Does that answer your question? Drive the Impreza here, you'll be able to get into the corral, and the police escort into the track.

3)What are the good bar/nightlife areas in Indy?
www.slipperynoodleinn.com is kickin that weekend. Both nights, aniversary and F1 party, 3 live stages of blues, 5 bands. The Broad Ripple area is packed with, uh, nice scenery in bars. It's Broad Ripple AV and Westfield BLVD intersection, if you want to look on a map.
JLMarx 08-14-2003 08:20 AM

Hey, thanks for the help guys! :) We've already booked flights, so won't have the Subie, unfortunately. But we're going to get a rental car (anyone want to join us for a game of Beat The Piss Out Of A Rental that weekend?) and we have a pass for the Subaru Corral. Can we get into the Corral if we're not actually driving a Subaru? We'll check out those bars too, my friends and I are big blues/jazz fans, so the Slippery Noodle sounds like a great place.
Streetman 08-14-2003 04:21 PM

You'll get close to the corral. It's in the memo they sent. Free parking inside the track, but not in the roped off "show" like area.

"If you are a car club member and have the parking placard, but are driving a vehicle that is not represented within the Car Corral, you will be directed to the third turn public parking lot."

Still saves you $20 or more each day.

Rental Rally? That deserves a dancing banana.

Please, someone, get in on karting!!!
Still need 6 more to secure it.
smash0r 08-19-2003 12:05 AM

Believe me...I wish I could :( got a wedding to go to Saturday. I'm going to be one tired puppy, but I wouldn't miss this :)
Streetman 08-19-2003 10:25 PM

Still wedding season there? That was over in spring here. Tell your buddy, "I love you and all, but this has to do with cars." You're going to lose him to the wife anyhow. Now everyone I know is HEAVY into pregnancy season. Pun intended.
TimStevens 08-26-2003 09:31 PM

Soo... did anyone get their tix yet? My girlfriend called to check on them and was told that they're still waiting on the placquard before they can send the tickets out. Are they waiting on something from us?
Streetman 08-26-2003 11:45 PM
Soo... did anyone get their tix yet? My girlfriend called to check on them and was told that they're still waiting on the placquard before they can send the tickets out. Are they waiting on something from us?
HuH?

Call back and get someone there who knows what's up. Others have gotten placards, there should be no problem getting both immediatly.
TimStevens 08-27-2003 07:40 AM

Did you get your tickets?
Streetman 08-27-2003 07:01 PM

I have yet to order mine, if you were asking me.

As far as the parking passes go, it seems they are waiting to get more from their printer. Just a slight delay, but you'll get them.
Streetman 08-27-2003 07:02 PM

Again, don't forget to get the maximum number of passes, so we can help our fellow brothers who bought tickets elsewhere.
TimStevens 08-28-2003 07:54 AM

Just a little disconcerting... a month away from the race and our tickets haven't shown up yet, when everyone else (w/o a subaru) I know who ordered them already has them! I'll sit tight for another week or two. :)
Streetman 08-31-2003 08:02 PM

I understand your concern. However, someone else emailed me with the same story. They simply ran out of passes, and either didn't order fast enough, or the printer didn't get them printed fast enough. Either way, I'd just check back with IMS to make sure, or to make their lives hell till you get what you paid for. Squeeky wheel gets the grease.

In the end, you'll make the corral, and the race.:disco:
OAKOS Automotive 09-11-2003 02:02 PM

Subject line Parking Pass for (screenname)

Actually Dave, I was only talking about YOU!

In reality, there's a really good gentleman's club just up the street fromt he club, if anyone doesn't get enough excitement at the track. However, we might see a championship decided this year for the first time ever in Indy. and how long has it been since the series was actually close this late in the year???? Pretty cool.

Maybe if I drink enough.... after all you did get us a police escort. :D

Yeah, I'm so excited for the race, the second half of this season has really taken a turn for the better. I gotta admit, I'm a big MS fan but it'd be great to see KR or JPM take the title.

Thanks again for hooking this up. Last year was the best to be able to drive right into the infield, no $50 parking or long walks.

Yes, build a time machine, go back in time, and sign up 14 people 30 days ago. Or get 28 to sign up right now, and pay $85 each before that weekend. It's all you.
Dussander 09-12-2003 05:56 PM

I will take that as a no.
So, what do you do from the time that the race is over and you are completely smashed until you sober up so you can drive home? I'm just curious. :D
Streetman 09-12-2003 06:09 PM
smashed until you sober up so you can drive home? I'm just curious.
Multiple choice:

A) Hang out in the corral until they throw us out (like last year).
B) Find a sober driver to take you a mile up the street to the nudie bar. (like last year)
C) Both A and B (like last year) That calls for both Disco Monkey, and Dancing Falic symbol. :disco:

I have an extra ticket available for Sunday.

1 Ticket for Sunday September 28th, 2003. It is located in the Paddock Penthouse (covered seats) Box 20 Row C seat 10. Face value is $140.00.

I also have Thursday Pit Passes.

pm or email me if interested.

Hey, how does one obtain Pit Passes? Do we have to do it ahead of time or can we just show up and get them?
NJwrbT-WRX 09-16-2003 03:50 PM

I just called and my pass in is the mail. I have tickets in J (WOO HOOOO, lucky me, I got them a LONG time ago), I also have the combo pass for practice and qualifying, as well as the thursday pit pass (which I think you get for being a first time ticket buyer or something). I am staying about 40 minutes outside of Indy, in Rushville (Is that a good place to stay? It was the only thing I could find for cheap). I cannot wait for the police escort. I bought a parking pass when I got my tickets, but that's cool, I need it for Thursday and Friday anyway, it is the big Lot 1 4-day pass. This is going to be awesome!!!
