No, the one DrD posted is a an A pillar mount style pod. The one I posted is a dash mount. It sits on the dash in the corner up against the bottom of the A pillar. Look closely

What is the best three gauge pod for the money and which gauges should I buy. Way to many choices, what would you guys say.
How much am I looking at spending, I will have to get them installed somewhere as well.
Thanks for the help.

I personally like the factory center gauge pod the best. The defi and others are too big and gaudy looking. The oem is a lot cleaner looking. You can use the stock gauges but they are expensive and small and harher to read. Omori makes nice factory look gauges to match the dash gauges. vdo and autometer also have good, inexpensive gauges.
| pottymouth | 09-02-2004 12:31 PM |
Thanks for the reply, where is the best place to get these installed? I like my local dealership, but will they install non factory gauges? Are they a rip off? I don't really want to take it to a speed shop type place, but I may have to.
| CtGT | 09-02-2004 12:35 PM |
Not sure if the dealership will install aftermarket gauges or not. They will probably be a little more than a tuning shop to install. Try and find someone local on nasioc who maybe would want to help you out.
Lotek makes one that is painted to match the factory a-pillar, but I wouldn't go so far as calling it good. Does the job though.
i love my lotek. perfect match. my 52mm autometers fit perfect, but i had a to dremel a little bit to get my 52mm greddy egt to fit right.

This is the Autometer Pod which I modified to fit into the cutout on the dash, which makes for a cleaner look. It also won't leave any markings on your dash if you want to remove the pod down the line:

That's my favorite one so far. what exactly did you have to modify(IE how would it sit normally)?

I got an email back from them. They said that it can be for RHD or LHD since it points straight on.

i hate that pod usually because the ones i have seen never fit right, but your mod made it look VERY nice. is there any way to cover up the screw heads? then it would be perfect.

I've had the Defi pod for over a year now.. I painted it with charcoal grey vinyl paint.. the match is close enough that people think it's stock. From the picture the Defi looks obnoxiously large, either it's grown on me or the thing doesn't really look that HUGE in person. And with an STi scoop, it doesn't obstruct my view at all. I'm happy with mine.. but I do miss my clock.
| InfamousDX | 09-03-2004 08:28 PM |
I just picked up a Defi and painted it the same color as Pete just said, matches the interior quite well. It doesn't bother me and I'll pay extra for a good fit.

i have the carbon concepts pod. its really nice. the gauges are angled towards the driver, slightly. the only thing i dont like it that it doesnt clip in like the factory clock. also its pretty thick, probably 1/4", i think its fiberglass with a carbon overlay. Still, it looks and works great

Anyone here with the autometer 20015 gauge pod fit your 05 STi? Mine seems a little too small, do you think it's defective?

Can anyone post pics of their defi pod painted to match the interior?
Thanks

I am going to get this pod but your the first one that I have seen that has it :-)
If you wouldn't mind could you take pics from the center of the car or driver's seat I am curious about the angle of the pod as it relates to the driver....
Thanks!

I had a Defi pod and I switched it for the Carbon Concepts. It is a beautifully made piece and it is angled towards the driver. It is quite a bit smaller then the Defi with minimal overhang.

AWESOME!
Thank you for the pics and site!
Is the right side of the gauge pod smaller than the left side? Kinda hard to tell from the pic, how much of an angle is it towards the driver... looks like there isn't much, which is nice! Either way I love that!
Any problems with light glare..etc? And will DEFI's fit in that? Perferably the BF ones..
Did you polish your ASP front plate. Mine doesn't look that shiny...
Thanks again,
-Nigel

im bringing this back from the dead. where is the cheapest youve found the double autometer pod, and dont they make a single 52mm for the steering wheel in a cup (not the exposed looking ones) or case form?
| ryanjorunner | 09-02-2005 03:05 PM |
Bumb for cheapest autometer. The cheapest i've seen is $69, at summit, jsc, and others. Does anybody know of anywhere cheaper, like whoever said they got there's for 40 a year ago?

i found the dual pods that go near the guage cluster for like 8 buck plus 16 shipping off ebay.

thats the OEM
if you look at my dash, I painted the radio trim with Rustoleum textured black paint for plastics. You could use the same paint to recoat that Carbon Concepts pod for a factory look. Or try plastidip black paint also.

I came across this pod that I really like. Here's the problem, it says its for 2-1/16", but my gauge is 2" (52mm). Is there anyway to get it to fit?

I like that column mounted pod, looks like it would hide all the wires/tubing -
| jojotherider | 08-18-2006 02:57 PM |
I did some research on that pod and figured out it was from autometer. I checked the part number with autometer and the part number was for an a-column mount. I then checked with the underbid folks and they couldn't give me a straight answer. I called at a few different times and talked to different people. I ended up buying a universal mount from GNV Motors.
edit: also, if you look at the picture, The holes for the parking light and ignition to line up very well. i.e. at all.
