Hankook Ventus Z212: STS/STX new tire part 3

Shaun: You have to admit that at the very least he posted in the wrong forum. It's already been said, but by posting in the Motorsports froum he attracted those who are less intereseted in "streetability" than all out performance. It's natural that those people would be let down when no good data is provided.

So how are the tire handling the drives to work and picking up groceries?
trhoppe 08-20-2004 03:03 PM

He shaved 0.4 seconds off his commute to get milk and cookies at Food Lion :)

you know...i can understand where you are coming from, but i honestly want to believe that awddrifter just wanted to let everyone know that these tires ARE coming. seeing how there was already a previous thread on these tires in this specific forum i dont(nor should you guys) see the harm in what he posted. he just wanted to put the question to rest about the arrival of these tires.

i come to this forum every once in while to see what you racers are running on, i read ya'lls input on certain tires, and form an opinion from my gathered info(along with the info from the tire&wheel forum). so if somebody posted up in this forum that these tires were great autoX tires that just happened to do well on the street....well thats a plus. so with that in mind, i just dont see the harm in his post

dont get me wrong PKer, i do understand and partially agree with you....... ............ but was it really such a big deal, are our lives now changed from what has been said in these recent post. so as i stated earlier i will wait in the "proper" forum for his input, since the thought of a "street" tire is not welcomed here.

laters and graciously waiting a review in the tire&wheel forum

Jeesh, back off the guy a bit! I work for a car company. Its not Subaru but suppose it was. If Subaru gave me a pre-production '06 STi to drive for the weekend I'd be excited to share with you my subjective observations but I sure as hell wouldn't risk my job by mounting up a Geez Cube and giving you specific performance data or running it down to Motortrend Magazine and letting them flog it against the Evolution MR.

Hankook Tire stated its alright to let people know about it.

I looked at the pics, they look exactly like the CG tires in the advertisement, but with more open tread. They look to have a little less tread on the ground per contact patch area than the Azenis and shaved Kumho but they also might be stickier. Who knows? I DON'T!

something happened to the server... need to fix it..
ill post the pics up shortly. in the Tire and Wheel thread

i'm running the 245/45/16s on 16x8 slipstreams on my RS. No rub, and so far so good. I still have a shot at doing well this small winter season here at SFR (www.sfrscca.org). I'll try to get some pictures up when I can.

haha back from the dead.

Those that used the Kooks at Nats, were they shaved? My full treaded ones don't react very well.

My wife and friend run these tires in STS. She has 225/45/16's on an Oldsmobile Alero and he's running 225/50/16's on an Eclipse GS-T. I've only driven his car once on these tires and never had a run on average tires to compare it to, but I've driven my wife's car on the skidpad with them and I loved it lol. I figured that taking an Oldsmobile Alero to the skidpad would be about as fun as taking a Geo Metro to the dragstrip, but I was wrong. Though I only got in about half to 2/3's of the number of laps as everyone else, I still managed .94g of lateral acceleration with no tuning of her tire pressures and on completely stock suspension. Whereas everyone else was driving on cords by the end of the event, her tires are still going strong to this day. Also, Tara (ImpreziveBlue on NASIOC) showed up to our region for the first time a couple months ago running these tires, and managed to finish in first place in STS out of a class of around 10 cars (in her GC8 2.5RS). She bested 2nd place by almost a second and a half. I believe second was running Azenis 215's and 3rd was on Kumho Ecsta MX's.

Also, GRM (GrassRoots Motorsports) did a review of a bunch of ST tires recently, and it didn't fare too well...but I think they're full of BS. They claim that the tire overheats easily, though in my case, it never skipped a beat on the skidpad, lap after lap, with two seperate drivers.
