I know a guy in Wisconsin with a really good line on these, but he hasn't gotten the chance to try them out yet, so no idea on the performance. Looks like a pretty good track tire, but I'd hate to try them in the rain.
KC 03-17-2004 09:30 AM

June/July is the word still... (from sccaforms.com)
elgorey 03-17-2004 05:39 PM

the pic in that graphic isnt even real. Its CG.
not a good sign if you are looking for them soon!

(probably dont come in 14" anyway  )
Patrick L 03-17-2004 09:30 PM

I got a better picture that I got from Hankook. I posted this on the sccaforums a while back.
Yes, June/July release.

me likey even better now
Protege Menace 03-18-2004 12:23 AM

my friend has hankook tires on his kia

but they arent very good (obviously as they arent sporty)
speedyHAM 03-18-2004 10:35 PM

Any idea on what the treadwear rating will be?

Just wondering if it will be STS/STX legal.
AUTOwrXER 03-18-2004 11:09 PM

They are being designed for ST*, so they will be legal. It remains to be seen if they will be any good. IMO, they could have done without so much void space in the middle of the tread. Especially given that they appear to be molded at 4/32s. You're not exactly designing to evacuate water at that point.

trhoppe 03-18-2004 11:54 PM

Well from what I talked to the Hankook guys they should be good wet tires at 4/32". 2/32" for best dry performance.

I should have my greasy hands on a test set in a couple of months

MNbiker 03-19-2004 01:35 AM

Any word on sizes yet? (fingers are crossed for 245/40-16 or 245/35-17)

So we're basically talking about a 140-rated slick at 2/32" (or less). What's interesting is the Stock rules only indicate tread depth must be non-zero & measurable (I assume this section would apply to STX?). The ST rules say NOTHING about tread depth...hmmmm.

-Steve

p.s. Already have money reserved for a set of 8" wide wheels & some of these babies mid-Summer.
RebelINS 03-19-2004 06:25 AM

My Azenis are getting pretty bald, but if these are going to come out in June July, I think I might just hold off on getting another set of Azenis and try these out. Anyone have any info on how the pricing will compare to Azenis?

When our rules say nothing about something, we default back to stock rules.

BZZZT. First off, no 17" sizes at all for the first year. He said a 245/45/16 *might* make it. Otherwise its a 225/xx/16....

NO 17's? What were they thinking?
245/45-16 would be OK, although 16's drive up the wheel budget.:( Having only 225's would be a big disapointment, unless they're real wide and sticky as h$ll.

215/45/16 or 215/50 for me i need so i don't have to roll the fenders.

Not me. I can fit a 225 no problem.
MNbiker 04-23-2004 02:27 AM

The latest (official) word. Lots of options for STS. For STX, it looks like 16 inch tires are the only viable option.

**************************************************

Thank you for taking the time to contact us about the new Hankook Ventus Z212 tire.

The Ventus Z212 is a Z-rated tire, UTQG: 200/AA/A that will be available late in the third quarter of this year, so approximately mid-August. The initial sizes that we're looking to have in stock are as follows:

195/ 50ZR 15
205/ 50ZR 15
205/ 45ZR 16
225/ 45ZR 16
245/ 45ZR 16
225/ 50ZR 16
205/ 55ZR 16
215/ 45ZR 17
205/ 50ZR 17
215/ 35ZR 18
225/ 40ZR 18

We haven't finalized the contingency package as of yet, but it should be on par with our very generous road racing contingency packages.

I'll be sure to hang on to your email address and keep you posted on any updates that we get.

Make sure you check our website at www.hankooktireusa.com for updates throughout the year.

Thanks again and good luck!

Yup, mid to late august is what I got from them as well. Looks like no nationals on Z212s this year....

Isn't that about the same thing they said around this time last year? It's always just a few months away, no matter when you ask them...
trhoppe 04-23-2004 09:08 AM

I was explained that the Z212 is so low on their radar that it is just getting shrugged off....

-Tom
trojan9x 04-26-2004 09:06 AM

Was kind of hoping that they would of been available earlier.. I just hope my azenis last until they come out.

225/45 here i come ;)
AUTOwrXER 06-16-2004 05:45 PM

We know this tire isn't legal for '04 anyway, but have we seen any recent developments. Seems to have dropped off the map (and out of their ads this month)...

Joel
thechickencow 06-17-2004 01:32 AM

I'm going to look into them, a rally buddy is a hankook distrubitor.
Scooby Freak 06-17-2004 07:42 AM

I saw the Z212 at SEMA Atlantic City and the hankook rep told me they would be on the market in july/august.
trojan9x 06-17-2004 07:46 AM

can't wait for them to come out.
MNbiker 06-17-2004 09:40 AM

I'll be on stickies next year, so I don't care about these tires any more. Now, if Hankook had managed to get them out in time for use THIS year, I would have been interested.....

-Steve
trojan9x 06-17-2004 10:20 AM

You should try the Z211's.. Probably not the best for Auto-x though

Nahh, I'll go with a proven formula - Victoracers for local events, Hoosiers for the serious stuff.

Size selection on the Z211's is also pretty limited:
205/60VR13
205/55VR14
205/50ZR15
225/50ZR15
225/50ZR16
275/40ZR17

NeoteriX 08-05-2004 12:41 PM

So are people saying this tire is designed to directly compete against the Falkens?
deuce.five 08-05-2004 02:13 PM

I just bought new Azenis! :furious: The 225/45/16 sounds very nice....
PKer 08-05-2004 02:24 PM

Keeping an eye on this thread.
AUTOwrXER 08-05-2004 03:04 PM

245/45/16!
ConeMasher 08-05-2004 03:48 PM

Any hope for a 245/40-17?
trojan9x 08-06-2004 02:31 PM

That post is teh old though. The email is dated July 9th, which is after our friend from Hankook (?) posted.

I'll be happy when I see them listed on their website.

from what I know is that Ventus Z212 are coming.... delays are inevitable because of testing and other stuff i am unaware of, btu Z212s are coming........ and about our website.... believe it is a little slow in updating unfortunately.....
Duffman1 08-07-2004 03:42 AM

But what exactly does "coming" mean? We've heard they have been coming for a while with nothing to show for it.
AWDrifter21 08-07-2004 10:24 AM
But what exactly does "coming" mean? We've heard they have been coming for a while with nothing to show for it.
The sizes are coming out in spurts. I cannot give our that information because I have got in trouble because some immature kid emailed Hankook and said some employee is say stuff about Hankook on some forums.
So now because of this I do not disclose any information that should not be known by the public. But like I said, some size are coming out in August/September, others in October/November, BUT there are always delays .... if I have an OFFICIAL release date, I will let you know.
but the only thing I officially know is that my set of 225/45/17 Ventus Z212s will be here in abot 3 weeks. Ill update you guys shortly. thanx
trojan9x 08-09-2004 09:14 AM

Well, if they did their homework right, they will have all sizes available before next year's cutoff date for tires to compete in the National Solo2 program. April 30th I believe?
AWDrifter21 08-16-2004 12:48 PM

How are you going to test them? Where, what surface, against what?

-Tom
GimmeScoobySnacks 08-17-2004 02:12 AM

By the seat of his pants? How can i get a set to test?
Swano 08-17-2004 07:22 AM

I would like for you or a nationnal champion to test them out back to back with the Azenis on the same course and see the ONLY difference that matters, the time.

Phil =)
stxwrxracer 08-17-2004 08:15 AM

Get them to me by this weekend and that can happen...might even get Grassroots Motorsports magazine in on the deal....let me know...not much time.

-Mike King
trhoppe 08-17-2004 09:13 AM

Yes, get mikey and GRM to test these beotches and it will be a *real* test rather then some "these tires are the besterest evar" crap :) This might even be good for hankook :)

-Tom

KC 08-17-2004 09:18 AM

Agreed, get them to Mike and GRM. It would be the best thing that Hankook can do right now for these tires.

If you want the tire to succeed, that combination would be the best bet. Don't pass up this opportunity.

--kC
stxwrxracer 08-17-2004 11:12 AM

I probably could even scrounge up a set of Kumho MXs by then as well...so it could be a three way battle. But, I'd have to get them by Thursday, and latest early Friday. Now if I only could get a set of KDs to go along with it....that would be a perfect test. We can work something out...if not this weekend, some weekend soon.

-Mike
trhoppe 08-17-2004 11:19 AM

Someone at GRM has to have some KDs....

-Tom
AWDrifter21 08-17-2004 12:13 PM

I am not doing OFFICIAL testing, just my own opinion, on ride quality, noise levels, no vibrations, etc. Going to test that at drag strip, maybe etown roadcourse and drifting
No one can get a set to test, Korea is already doing testing, this special set to me was given as a test purpose PLUS I know people at hankook in korea, haha
KC 08-17-2004 12:28 PM

No offense... that's a shame. A chance to OFFICALLY test these things in an environment that Hankook stands to gain the most from... auto-x. (Maybe road course... but the e-town 'road course' isn't much of a road course more than it is a large go-kart track. So don't even call it one... becuase it isn't (road course think... Watkins Glen, Lime Rock... etc... E-town??? )

We don't care about ride quality, noise levels, vibrations. And don't get me started about using the tires for an exhibition sport.

Pull the strings you need to. If you work for Hankook, I think you might have their best intentions at heart. No amount of your subjective testing will help 'US' decide if the tire is worth it. Not a slam against you or the company.... you guys have your own priorities.... I'm just saying real auto-x testing by respected people in the community would do you guys wonders.

no offense taken, but just read what i said.
nothing is official on what I am doing. They just asked for my opinions on specifics things they want.. They are not going to put my data of "yeah they are comfortable" in their data or what not. so i dont understand whata shame is because I got a set for my personal use? Hankook in Korea is doing their own testing as our other tire manufacturers when they come out with their new line of tires. I just wanted to share that Hankook Tire is coming out with a great set of summer tires and I will be trying them out.
They gave me these tires as test to see what my personal opinions are thats all... and again... this is nothing official, so pls dont complain about not doing this or that.

Like WRX2.0 555 said.. at least we got pictures. :D

Here's what happened...

We've been waiting for these tires with baited breath. There's been many delays and people saying 'Officially, they're not coming" and then "Officially, they're coming."

Then someone pops up and says:
Actually Korea sent it to me for some testing and all.
.. and are shown pics. We suggest getting some real testing done by those who would be able to really promote the tire to the masses. Then we read the testing is 'seat of pants'. :)

Yeah, that's called teasing, thanks. "Hankook... the only thng worse is a GF that doesn't put out." :p

Heck, you didn't even say if you'd share the results.... so really it is just one big tease, isn't it? :D
So basically, this thread is a waste of our time ;)

-Tom
I will decode Tom's message for you.

We thought you were posting, telling us about a new product. We thought you were posting to try and market the tire to potential customers... Auto-X customers. We are customers who don't buy tires every 2-3 years, we buy 2-3 sets PER YEAR. We thought that Hankook was reaching out to try and gain some valuable share in the competitive street tire space that is currently owned by Kumho and Falken.

We thought wrong... you are not speaking with any authority from Hankook (as you said) and apparently Hankook is doing all the testing and marketing that they think is needed to bring this tire to market. What confuses us is that this testing is not being done by some of the most successfull ST class competitors in the country.
