How to disable annoying 06 WRX seat belt alarm? Dealer quoted $70
06 WRX annoying seat belt alarm sound HOW TO DISABLE? dealer quoted $70

Does anyone know how to disable an annoying alarm when your seatbelt is not used? It's annoying as hell :( Dealer said $70 to get it taken care of. Just wondering if there's an DIY for it.

Thanks.

Get in the car & turn the key to the accessory position (1 click short of starting).

put the seatbelt in the latch...remove & click 20 times very quickly. The next time you restart, the beep should be gone.

What happens if you disconnect the wire running to the buckle receiver?
f1vlad 05-02-2006 11:30 AM

Thanks for information guys. The dealership that quoted me this is known to be tunner-friendly dealership in New England and I really like them for other things they've done for me. I am happy there's an easy way to do it. I'll try your solutions tonight after work :)
f1vlad 05-02-2006 11:31 AM
i cant believe theyd actually be allowed to do it
Also as far as "allowed" in 2006 manual it says "talk to dealership to disable seat belt alarm" :) so I guess it's allowed by 'dealership code' or whatever.
ekw 05-02-2006 11:46 AM

i guess wearing the seat belt is not an option?
littlewhitewagon 05-02-2006 11:50 AM
What happens if you disconnect the wire running to the buckle receiver?
it might trip the airbag light because the 06 has occupant detection. it may realize that something in the circuit is missing. the system includes the buckle, seat sensor, warning lights, and all airbags.

Not sure on the rex, but this trick originally came from us guys with 05 LGTs. Its worth a shot.

.... lets not get into this again....

to clarify, it is a well documented "problem" that the newer subarus have a super annoying seatbelt chime that is continuous...therefore, even if you are just sitting in your car listening to the radio, or anything not involving the wearing of a seatbelt (think about it, there are times when you are sitting in the car, while its running, and not wearing your seatbelt) the chime is driving people crazy.

99% of the people who are asking this question are not "non-seatbelt-wearers" they just want to turn the chime off.

i still predict this thread will be filled with "wear your seatbelt dumbass!!" comments.
V8This 05-02-2006 12:43 PM

^When you get in your car and you know you won't be moving, buckle the seat belt for a second and then unbuckle it. It will not chime again, until you start moving.

I was also under the impression that the person just didn't want to wear their seat belt, which is the easiest and cheapiest solution to the problem.

WRX_JUNKi 05-02-2006 02:37 PM

Hmm worked fine on my 06. Now only if I can get the ring to stop when my key is in the ignition.

It worked for me, I didn't start the car afterwards. But I doubt it matters, I do remember that after inserting the buckle many times, the car did one last long ding and then I never heard another ding again.
pornstar1969 05-02-2006 02:51 PM

Never worked for me either. I would still need to get rid of the oil pressure buzzer from the DEFIs anyway. So i guess i might as well be totally annoyed. :furious:
i guess wearing the seat belt is not an option?
I am actually in New Hampshire. State's slogan is "Live free or die" :) We don't have to wear seat belts if we don't wanna if we're older than 14 years of age.

With all that said I do wear my seatbelt, but like Crawdads said, there are times I am troubleshooting something with ignition on etc and that annoying sound is killin me.
sperry7 05-02-2006 08:22 PM

guys that the trick didn't work for:

make sure you dont just push the button in, you have to put the seatbelt into the buckle and click out. (> 20 times)

I left the key in the "accessories" location for about a minute before I immediately started it up and no beeping for me! Thank you LGT guys! I was about to go crazy :)
ekw 05-02-2006 08:33 PM

believe it or not, i was more curious than anything.
the OP made no mention of the reason, so i wondered.
the trouble shooting, etc makes sense.

i was not trying to start a flame war.
my personal opinion is that most other people should NOT wear seatbelts.
my world would be a better place w/o them in it.

the seatbelt mod works... I did it on my 06... I did it the 30 clicks in 30 seconds way.

You mean like the door chime? There should be a box on your steering column, just pull the plug out. It's beige on the GC's.
NW OBS 05-02-2006 10:43 PM

Not reading 50 post...
Turn key to 1st position. Click and unclick seatbelt 20 times in 30 seconds. Done. Light will come on with no buzzer/bell/dinger or nutin'.
srascal36 05-02-2006 11:12 PM

I always wear my seatbelt, but when im just going down the street sometimes i dont. I just noticed that mine doesnt chip when its not in. I definitly didnt do the mod, so i guess either i got lucky, the dealer did it, or my car is just wacked out
jblaze5579 05-02-2006 11:36 PM

So you've got to actually push it in until it locks in place then unclick it.

I was holding the button down and banging it in and out like a crazy monkey. i'll give it a shot tomorrow.

cMags 05-03-2006 10:56 AM

Its funny, because my '05 OBS came from the dealership with the seatbelt chime disabled. Here I was thinking the whole time (and loving it) that there was no seatbelt chime in my car.
WillisW555 05-03-2006 03:09 PM
99% of the people who are asking this question are not "non-seatbelt-wearers" they just want to turn the chime off.
It is nice not to have the chime as I'm gridding up at the track. Also, if I'm driving through a parking lot or such or just backing out of my driveway, I don't need to be reminded to put on my seatbelt. I'll do it with or without the chime.

I used the 20 clicks trick and it worked very nicely.
McPhreak 05-03-2006 03:41 PM
What I want to know is, how in the world did someone figure out this "20 in 20" trick?
me too :)

as far as the other "not smart trick" by putting your seatbelt behind your seat. That trick was presented to me by a guy who sold a car to me, subaru dealer :) at that time I was thinking "why would i wanna do that?" I later learnt why.
justinpool2000 05-03-2006 06:39 PM

Aww, does someone need attention?

I don't even understand what you're asking us.
Speedracer 920 09-19-2006 12:04 AM

Easy. On my 06 Outback, how does one disable the seat belt buzzer and the dash lights when the engine is running. (headlights are not needed or park lights, when the car is just parked with engine running.)

When trying the 20 click in 30 seconds ( I used a timer to help time it), it does not work on my 06 Outback.

Thanks again for any help on the 2 questions.

You could probably get youself a wiring diagram for the cluster and put a switch on the power for the lights.

As for the seatbelt alarm... not really sure. You could try calling dealers to see if they can tell you. Sometimes if you send a note to your regional SOA rep (look on the Subaru website) they will be able to find out for you.
WebMasterP 09-19-2006 12:43 AM

After reading this thread, I went down to the garage and tried this trick. It only partially works.

I put the car one click before ignition so the seatbelt starts chiming. I then started to insert the seat belt 30x before 30 seconds. However, in my 2006 STi, after 5 clicks, the car lets out a final short beep (but longer than a single seatbelt warning beep) -- but I kept going anyway, after 30 clicks, nothing.

So, then to test, I turned my car all the way on. It beeped 5 times and then the seatbelt light turned off and never beeped or came on again. This is different than the standard beep, which is 10 beeps (I believe) and then the light doesn't go off and then after a pause, it does 10 beeps again.

Not satisified, I tried it again and this time I went faster, but with same results (the small semi-long beep at 5 clicks). Then, when I turned on the car it went back to the original longer beep series that reoccured.

Basically, I repeated this loop of disabling it and re-enabling over and over (about 4 loops total), I couldn't completely disable it.

Overall, I'm pretty happy though. The really annoying, repeating long beep series is gone, and now it's only 5 short beeps and it's gone (light goes off too).

Some things to note: I bought the car in WA where it's illegal to not wear your seatbelt. It's an 06 STi. I bought it in October 2005 shortly after they first hit the market here.

If its that big of a problem just go to a boneyard and cut a seatbelt out of a car and stick the buckle part into the reciever in your car and LEAVE IT THERE.

I bought my 06 WRX TR a few weeks ago...as i was about to leave, the dealer asked me "you want me to disable the seatbelt chime?" i said no and was kinda confused why he asked...i almost shot myself the following day!

My 05 wrx never beeped at me once and thats how i liked it, i thought my 06 was gonna be the same. Im gonna try the 30 clicky thing tomorrow, i hope it works.

jezzy 11-08-2006 11:11 AM

Do a search. Many threads on this issue. It worked for me the first time I tried !

Get into the car.. turn igintion to ACC, hold selt belt clip down, insert - remove 20 times within 30seconds. Then turn key off.

Then start car, problem gone. Worked fine and has never come back !

I've got a 2.5i wagon, maybe the WRX is different?

Why does everyone insist on doing the seatbelt in and out trick. Do you honestly think the next owner of your car is going to give a crap about no chime?
Just reach up under the driver side dash, grab the little motherboard and rip out the black barrel-shaped module on the back of it. Good-bye forever. No resetting required.
I did this the first day I got my car and I have never wondered what it would be like to have it back.
(Disclaimer: Yes, I always wear my seatbelt.)
jjunior887 11-09-2006 11:14 AM

My 06 only took 5 times in and out, the key was in the On position but not running. The ACC position didn't work for me.
imprezaowner27 11-09-2006 11:39 AM

OMG YOU ARE GOD

whoever figured out the 20 clicks thing, thank you so much

now when i turn on my car it beeps 5 times, then it completely goes away, little red flashing guy and everything
Mechie3 11-27-2006 09:29 AM

Some people are forgetting that others may want it disabled because they use a non stock harness (Schroth for me) and don't want to hear ding ding ding, not because we don't wear seatbelts.

Great mod though.
