Wow! The black and red badge would look sick on my red 99 impreza wagon. Love how you painted your wheels as well!
mostasz 02-10-2009 09:45 PM

There's mine on car...

What U guys think?
Evilchargerfan 03-15-2009 04:08 AM

looks really nice on a psm car!
SegaWrx 03-15-2009 07:58 AM

Does this method work on 08/09 badges?
Mechie3 03-15-2009 08:56 AM

Mostasz: Looks good on the car. It was hard to make a decision before it was mounted. My spare one cracked like that too. The acetone and other chemicals in goof off and nail polish remover attacks the plastic causing it to fracture due to internal stresses present from the original molding.
smithrcing17 03-15-2009 10:33 AM

holy crap dude that looks freaking amazing!!! i give you maddddd props bro

Thanks:banana:
At first I was skeptic about it(before installation), but I love it now.
smithrcing17 03-15-2009 12:41 PM

im in the process of painting mine right now as im typing this and my badge cracked as well=[ but i cant decide to do silver/red or black/red on my PSM MY05. im gunna print them both out and tape it to my car to see what they would look like.. ohh and mastasz if you put some red pin stripping around your grill it would really bring out the front of your car!
BeBop86 03-15-2009 02:54 PM

Has anyone removed the paint from the pink "I" before?
Himynameisgreg 03-15-2009 07:44 PM
Does this method work on 08/09 badges?
it works for the front badge. be careful not to crack it.

but i just pulled the back badge off, and from the back, i can't see the plastic badge part. i don't know if the plastic part is glued to the chrome peice or what. here is the back of what i pulled off my car:

sorry its tiny as hell
does anyone know how to get access to the painted part of the badge on the 08/09?

I think black badge is too dark for PSM. Sorry, but silver looks better to me. Not because It's my car ;)

Red stripes looks good tho, get some Supertones behind that!
Himynameisgreg 03-16-2009 11:10 PM

did anyone do the rear badge as well? i'm trying to for my 08. i got the badge off but the back is covered, not like the front where the paintable part just pops out.
looks like this: sorry its tiny.

the chrome piece is the entire back.

i tried heating the blue side and prying it out of the chrome frame but it wouldn't budge. any advice on this would be appreciated. thanks
Mechie3 03-16-2009 11:19 PM

The 06 rear badge is like that. On my 06, the emblem back was completely covered with a thin layer of 3m VHB tape. From the view you're looking at in the pic, is there a small hole off to one side? If there is, use that to push the emblem off after you have heated it thoroughly with a hairdryer.

Here's my 06 in 2 pieces with CF on the chrome:

Himynameisgreg 03-16-2009 11:33 PM

^^^thanks. there were like three holes and i tried pushing at them but it didnt work but i didn't try very hard. i'll try heating it up better and do what you said. thanks.
bedheadben 03-16-2009 11:51 PM

Let's see the cf/chrome one together now! On the car!
NorthBayResident 03-17-2009 12:53 AM

To OP, nice write up! And to everyone else, lookin good! Im curious to see that CF badge too , that would look good on DGM :D
Jeff_qc 03-17-2009 11:42 AM

looks really good! What would you guys think of a white background with black stars on my White 2.5?
Himynameisgreg 03-17-2009 12:31 PM

^^^that would probably look really sick.
smithrcing17 03-17-2009 02:06 PM

yeahh personaly i like mostaz's silver on the psm, that pic i took is really dark ill have to take one in the light, but mostaz still does look better ftw
JavaBot 03-17-2009 02:09 PM

Smith do yourself an audimask with that black and red on psm... will look sick!
Lets see the other color combos
java juanjohn24 03-17-2009 04:38 PM

nice!
Masta Splint 05-10-2009 06:01 PM

So I am trying to do this with a brand new badge right now and I have got all the paint and silver flacking off but the emblem looks really foggy. I used goof off and the qutips just like what was recomended. Is my emblem destroyed? Did the goof off end up eating away at the emblem and that's why?
Also depending on how mine times out, if it comes out f'ed up would someone that has already done there's and had it come out good be interested in making me one? If so please pm me or email me. Thanks!
sheepdog 05-10-2009 07:25 PM

You'll probably be ok as long as the fogging is on the back side of the plastic. If it's on the front, you can use the sanding/plastic polish method mentioned earlier in this thread, I doubt it goes very deep.
Mechie3 05-10-2009 08:24 PM

Goof off chemically attacked the plastic. Use Plastic-X and some elbow grease to clear it up by removing the thin layer that is fogged.
ridexstraight 05-11-2009 02:42 AM

i used brake cleaner worked well
rs dude 05-16-2009 09:30 AM

how would nail polish work??
GusGus91 06-02-2009 10:44 PM

Has anybody done the black and red, on a wrb WRX?
Ms. Schnell 06-17-2009 02:20 PM

that looks badass!
banannersz 08-09-2009 04:45 PM

i tried to remove my back badge and it was pretty hard. i heated it up for like 2 mins. is there any easier way to remove it? do i need to heat it up for even longer?
acemyles2.5i 08-09-2009 07:53 PM

try drilling a small hole in the back, but go slow and dont hit the front badge, then use that hole to poke something through and push the front part out, but remember to heat it because that **** will not budge if its not hot.....best of luck, and ya badges look sick, POST THE CARBON FIBER lol :p
SteelStewart 08-12-2009 04:17 PM

has anyone tried this on a 08-09 front and rear badge??? i had a friend try to do it with brake cleaner but the plastic started to crack on him and he had to buy a new emblem. I really want to try this on my 08 wrx emblems but dont want to **** the emblems up....Can anyone help me out??

Guglianoh 10-27-2009 12:17 PM

yeah will this work with the JDM "I" badges?
elroyj 10-28-2009 01:12 PM

Yeah, I'd like to know also if this method works for the front and back emblems on the 09s
therealratfink 10-28-2009 11:19 PM

It works, I used only sandpaper and did it this way.

tehknikhal 10-28-2009 11:44 PM

Hey, do you think that the badge for the 09 WRX is made the same way?

*Edit*
Nvm, just saw therealratfink's car badge. LOL
therealratfink 10-28-2009 11:48 PM

LOL Yeah it seems to be the same. I used sandpaper (150 then 220, then 400, then 1500) and then cleaned with lacquer thinner.
uhmmmitsmik3 10-29-2009 01:22 AM

i might do this on the weekend on my 08 hatchback.. hmm black background with wrb stars?? photoshop anyone
therealratfink 10-29-2009 01:24 AM

I didn't use any chemicals to remove paint like you would need to remove the stars. I can't speak to what will happen if you do.

BryGuy1086 10-29-2009 02:49 PM

Wow this is amazing! I thought for sure that the goof off would eat the plastic
riderome 10-29-2009 02:58 PM

What kind of red paint is that? Think this same combo will look sick on a SRR pain job
therealratfink 10-30-2009 12:16 AM

I actually used my caliper paint. LOL

It's just high temp rattle can. I laid it on thick and dried it with a blow dryer.
