I dyed my 06 seats today part 1

BlowDro 08-26-2006 04:35 PM

I dyed my 06 seats today
this morning i decided i did not like the gray/black interior at all. i used duplicolor fabric dye, gloss black. it came out looking very good and would look even better with more coats and more pacience on my part. the fabric feels a little stuff but i sure it will break in nicely. the good thing about the spray dye is that when you get spots you need to touch up you can just pull out a can and cover what was needed and it looks as good as new. i will be doing my door cars and front seats in a couple weeks pending the final results of the back seats.

looks good
WShade 08-26-2006 04:38 PM

Really good.........
Dforce 08-26-2006 04:46 PM

any before pics? will it rub off on light color clothing?
iamchris 08-26-2006 04:54 PM

Wow, looks much better than I expected! *thumbs up*
WRXDriftR 08-26-2006 04:55 PM

amazing! lol... now those of us with the Blue STi seats can dye them to look like the Spec-C black STi seats :)
lunatic meth 08-26-2006 04:56 PM

wow, that looks great!! just hope it doesn't fade
BlowDro 08-26-2006 05:17 PM

if it fades then i will just touch it up as needed.a 10 minute ride with the windows down and it will not smell.

as for it coming off on light colored cloths, thats why i did my backseats first. To let my friends be my guinea pigs.

another one of my friends will be dyeing his 04 sti seats soon. i think it will look better than the spec c seats because the STi stiching will look like ghost writing.

You're such a good friend.
SteelGrayScooby 08-26-2006 10:36 PM

Can you pull down that middle thing as an armrest? I too have an 06 but have never been in the back, its too late now to go look lol.

P.S- That looks REALLY really nice and clean.
Hank3 08-26-2006 11:03 PM

Good job, dude :)
DrD 08-26-2006 11:11 PM

looks nice - curious to see how well the dye stays on the seat and off your friends...
looks nice - curious to see how well the dye stays on the seat and off your friends...
Especially when it's raining out.....
STiLED 08-26-2006 11:39 PM

I used the same product to dye my blue STi carpet black. That was 6 months ago. Everything is still perfect. The color has not faded or rubbed off. I have shampooed the carpet without any color rubbing off. And yes, stains are not a problem. BTW I used the flat black not the gloss black.
veightkiller 08-27-2006 01:29 AM

they should have come in that color.looks great!
JohnnyWas 08-28-2006 02:04 AM

looks amazing. great job!

kennyvb 08-28-2006 02:29 AM

Dynobyte 08-28-2006 03:11 AM

hmm. didn't know that product existed.
KAX 08-28-2006 03:26 AM
hmm. didn't know that product existed.
nor did I. I might do that to my 02 seats when I do the all black interior.
FWD WRX 08-29-2006 12:22 AM

does anyone know if the 05 STI door cards is the same fabric as the Spec-C?
WhiteFox 08-29-2006 02:09 AM

I hope your seats don't have Teflon fabric protection.
Dr freedom 08-29-2006 02:25 AM

Any update on testing on your mates? :)
Dynobyte 08-29-2006 03:42 AM

yah done the front seats yet?

teflon doesnt work
FWD WRX 08-29-2006 05:40 AM

if i dyed my JDM v8 seats black would that make them JDM v8.5 or 9s haha
BlowDro 08-29-2006 09:31 AM

no ones sat in the back seats yet and i will be waiting a couple weekds to do my front ones. i dont think there will be any rubbing off happening, the seats feel great.
WhiteFox 08-29-2006 12:23 PM
yah done the front seats yet?

I tried to dye some 300ZX seats a while back and the dye wouldn't take. It would just bleed right off. I was able to wash all the dye right off, then sold them. I was told they probably had teflon on them after I dyed them.
TRooper 08-29-2006 12:24 PM
does anyone know if the 05 STI door cards is the same fabric as the Spec-C?
Yes, the material is the same.
<<has Spec C door cards

BlowDro 08-29-2006 02:05 PM

so r spec-c's car black suade? i want that so bad.
IllNastyImpreza 08-29-2006 06:46 PM

that stuff Did not work for me @ all...I died my ugly Biege seats in my L about a year ago....right now it looks like bleached sand camoflauge

I cleaned the crap out of it...and than used 2 bottles per seat....ended up with like 4 coats. The parts of vinyl onthe back still are about 90% ok...but the fabric parts faded/rubbed off/evaporated like a mofo!

how the hell did u guys get it to stay on there???
BlowDro 08-29-2006 10:20 PM

idk maby its a different fabric that absorbs the dye.... i hope
KAX 08-30-2006 02:39 AM

you said your L seats were vinyl? im sure the cloth fabric absorbs the dye better then a vinyl would.
Dynobyte 08-30-2006 03:38 AM

there is vinyl spray dye for your dash and what not and there is this duplicolor stuff for fabric apparently.
BlowDro 08-30-2006 09:04 AM

yes, the duplicolor paint i have says vinyl and fabrics on it, then it also says uses on dashboards, door panels, seat and carpet. this is the same paint i used to paint my a,b and c pillars and it worked great.
Damon 08-30-2006 09:41 AM

two thumbs up.
dantastic 08-30-2006 09:47 AM

anyone try this on their headliner yet? i know that the lighter colored headliner is supposed to make the car feel better, but i'd rather have it match the rest of the interior....
Calamity Jesus 08-30-2006 09:47 AM

I don't understand why you'd dye anything that people on this board would pay good money to swap for.
Mighty Subie 08-30-2006 09:54 AM
I don't understand why you'd dye anything that people on this board would pay good money to swap for.
I agree, but damn it looks like they came that way. Good job, hope it holds.

He had those grayish-beige seats... i didnt think many people liked those. I know the 04/05 all black WRX seats were worth something, but a friend had trouble selling his 06 beige ones on here.

Can the OP please paint the fronts and post pics!!

i cant justify trading my new seats for ones with 20000 miles on them, dosent make sense to me.

i am doing my door cards now but with a huricane of the coast i will not be painting for a couple days. i will post pics soon tho.
FWD WRX 08-30-2006 07:44 PM

keep us updated guys
agentmaxwell 08-30-2006 09:40 PM

i used the same product to do all my interior pillars, worked great.
 Ohhh! I thought we were seeing some dyed STi seats. My bad.:o
nooo...his were the 06 WRX seats. The Sti ones would be bought up pretty quick on here... but someone brave would have my praises if they DID paint their STi seats black, similar to the spec-C ones from Japan that go for over $1000 just for the fronts :)
hornyturbo 08-31-2006 10:19 AM

to the OP can u get a wet rag and see if u can rub the color off...

biba028 09-01-2006 04:13 AM

nice...! im envied i might do it too. anyways, do u have more pics ? like those u have dyed and painted so far ? like the pillars.
Lazaride 09-01-2006 05:25 PM

I'd like to see more pics of the painted cloth interior 02 if possible, I will be doing my dash finally this weekend (black)and on to the A pillars - and I think If I am going to be taking my head liner out to de-rail - I might do the RA scoop and paint the headliner black as well.
gundamwrx 09-06-2006 07:03 PM

nice job, i just did that with my grey wrx carpet and it came out pretty good.

I was just wondering if you painted the entire seat or did you mask off the parts you didn't want painted?
amg destroyer 09-07-2006 12:39 AM

Nice job! It looks great! I never thought that stuff really worked. Keep us posted ...
