JDM Licence plate mount. part 2

tjmpaintball06 06-27-2006 07:28 PM

i bought mine for 8.99 at autozone, i have a 03 blue wrx and i just reused my stock mounting screws instead of the ones it came with and it fit great. Im hoping i dont get any added cop attention (Texas). If anyone wants pics i can post mine up.

yea i tried that at first but i didn't like seeing the bracket. i guess its personal preference.
Mr. Sadface 06-27-2006 08:18 PM

I'm a JDM junkie, but I also broke down and drove up to Autozone today. I got the last one they had on the shelf, installed it, and it looks good. I am going to powder coat it black however.
That_Azn_Guy 06-27-2006 08:55 PM

dibblejr 06-27-2006 09:53 PM

Um you must be standing on your head, looks like it is angled down to me. LOL
got mine today for $9.74 at the Autozone on E. Fordham Road. Put it on the car in two minutes on 240th Street.

but question -- Are you guys mounting them downward and more angled, or up and a little crooked like in the pic above?
wrxdrftr2002 07-09-2006 07:12 PM

yes i just got 2 front plate tickets in one week!!!! im on the way to autozone rite now lol
mountjonas 07-09-2006 08:06 PM

i thought some of the jdm ones were spring loaded so that they were straight when you were stopped and as you you sped up they tilted to let air flow to your intercooler or radiator, hence the higher price tag. either way, $8 isn't bad.

/checks wallet
dibblejr 07-09-2006 08:34 PM

$100 for the spring loaded JDM version. I am making my own spring loaded with the $8 autozone special. I am trying different springs and my wife is in front of me so she can see what MPH the plate will tilt.
I will let you guys know when my tests are complete.

Frayz,
I wish you didnt start the thread now. Do you know how much money we could have made selling them at car shows ( LOL)
I am glad I could help everyone out.
Glad i started this thread now as it seems there was alot more people looking for these :D
wrxdrftr2002 07-11-2006 01:22 AM

i got one 2day 2.. i took off the middle arms tho and made it only one pivot point and looks more like the real one now
Mr. Sadface 07-11-2006 02:00 AM
i got one 2day 2.. i took off the middle arms tho and made it only one pivot point and looks more like the real one now
I thought about doing that. But, the extra pivot allows it to tuck more. I do think I'm going to paint it flat black so it doesn't bling so much.
shift_chow 07-11-2006 02:12 AM

going to autozone tomorrow haha, i think I'm gona mount mine of to the side to be mad jdm y0 haha
ghibli99 07-11-2006 02:34 AM

My cousin brought back some Seiwa, Bandit, and Carmate tilt brackets from Japan a little while back. None of them were more than $9 (some as low as $6.85). I can't believe the markup charged here in the US for these things... and you have to do some modification for the single-width 2-piece designs.

size18boarder 07-11-2006 05:10 PM

the permanent ones seem so obvious...like they might just piss off a cop

I would get the spring loaded ones if MD required a front liscence plate
Harry 07-11-2006 08:44 PM

MD front plate?

I thought MD does require a front plate, right? If not, it's coming off tonight!

Dangit. How much? :P
culturedetox 07-12-2006 04:07 PM

I picked one up yesterday. ($8! whewt)
how do they mount up to origional holes in the bumper. They came with two sets of screws, the pointy ones and the thread & nut combo?

How do mount the bracket without drilling into the bumper?
irish.car.bomb 07-17-2006 10:06 AM

Yes, MD does require a front plate. I got a warning already because of the stupid mounting issue. Is there a way of mounting the front plate without having to drill into the bumper or take the bumper cover off? I was thinking of using the expanding drywall anchors ..

I modified my $7.99 AutoZone bracket slightly:

Fail Wagon 12-08-2006 09:54 PM

much better its still adjustable but it doesnt stick out so far
Vicious LSD 12-08-2006 10:24 PM

i dont think those are worth the money. Someone backs into that hard enough, there goes a bent bracket. If anything I would slap a evo plate bracket on there.
ThisizBrian 12-08-2006 10:42 PM

u still need the usdm holes...which my 02 doesnt have.
SuperHawk 12-09-2006 05:54 PM

I did the same thing as Semaj. I just took out the hinge bar out and then put the whole thing back together again. I also slotted the holes in the piece that attaches to the plate and slid it closer to the car so that it sticks very little but still tilts down

Super
