i've been looking for some low-seat rails for my 02 WRX also... just putting that out there for anybody that might potentially make em.
| circaisdashiat | 08-11-2007 06:46 PM |
Well i have JDM V7 seats in my 95 Impreza, and because they are GD seats in my GC they sit much higher. I am only 5'7" or so, so i don't hit my head or anything, But i have to sit ridiculously close to the steering wheel so that i can push my clutch all the way in.
Some lower seat rails would be awesome. Or if anyones knows what aftermarket ones will bolt onto subaru seats.

Hey guys, after some research I am looking at getting some lower seat rails made from these guys: http://www.wedgeengineering.net/ContactUs/tabid/5462/Default.aspx
I just need to get some measurements, and call them. I hope to do that within the next month. I am finalizing my turbo setup right now so I need to wait.

No way! Get out there right now and measure...some of us are desperate (but apparently not desperate enough to go outside and measure for ourselves)

Hey guys, I think I found our solution! I just picked up some Wedge engineering seat brackets on the for sale classifieds. I was blown away that I actually found them and snatched them up for 160. I will install them next week and report back how much lower it goes! Looks pretty significant though, maybe 3-4 inches :)

Update?
I'm 6'1 and cant where a helmet unless I cop the Gangsta lean yo! LOL
Would like to drop my front seats by 1-3"s.
And yes the TR seats suck!
I want STI seats!

My rails are in the mail, I'll let you guys know for sure! This is good news because Wedge will have the dimensions and design ready to go when you order and you won't have to measure anything. I should have these in by the end of the week.

We delt with wedge rails before.
They are a very good company that make custom brackets to fit alot of application.
Unfortunately their subaru bracket don't fit very well. :(

I just got the Wedge brackets and I am fitting the passenger side right now. I will let you know how it goes! Hopefully I don't have issues like Garage Spec mentioned... I'll find out though. I'm taking pics too :)
| sperry7 | 09-12-2007 09:29 PM |
So I took out the seat and everything but it got dark real fast so I couldn't do much more. Just eye'ing it up, it looks like I will need to at least bend some of the tabs on the brackets for it to bolt on. Hmmm hopefully this won't be too hard to do.
Garage spec what did you end up doing to make them fit? Pm'ed you

Okay, so I took another look at it today and it looks like it should work. There are three mounting holes to adjust the height, and to get it in it's lowest setting I had to chop off one of the mounting holes. No biggie. I am taking off the sliders on the seats tonight and seeing if they fit onto the brackets. I took some pics, but I will wait until I have made some progress.
So as of now, it looks like these brackets will work in lowering the seat at least a 1-2". I'm guessing it might be closer to 3" depending on the setting you use.

Sorry guys, I have been busy busy busy.
So- You need sliders to use the stock seats and the Wedge brackets. I am trying to find some sliders as we speak that will work with the Wedge brackets. Fit on the brackets as I have said earlier is not very good, it remains to be seen if I can even get them in there. Garage Spec said they put in the Wedge brackets with no problems when I PM'ed them. So basically, it's a crapshoot.
I'd say call Wedge, pick up these brackets and their sliders and see if you can return them if they don't fit. That will probably be your best bet.
Fitting the brackets will resume next week, I am out of town at the moment.

I think my best bet is going to be to get out the welder at this point.
Funny thing is Subaru seams to have fixed the problem with the 08s as there seats seam to site a lot lower in the car.
I wonder of there seat brackets are the reason or of its there mounting points.

Looking at the stock brackets, I don't think it would be safe, or plausible to chop and reweld them. The brackets are integrated sliders and brackets, they are kinda weird. I was thinking the sliders would be separate but nope.

Thank you for the update. Hopefully you have been taking photos like you said you would. I hope these work out because alot of others will follow in your foot steps.

Sparco sliders came in today thanks to the guy that sold me the wedge brackets. These still won't work with my seat because my stock seat has mounting holes on the side (side mount) and these sliders are bottom mount. After doing some research I figure I need some brackets that allow the bottom mount sliders to bolt to the side mount seat. This is how many companies aftermarket seats bolt up as well.
I am considering just going with aftermarket seats and using these brackets and sliders with them... this is getting to be a hassle! I figure the safety of not having side airbags is equivalent to hitting my head on the roof during a crash. Either way I'm screwed, but less so if I don't hit my head.

Aww man, thats too bad that it didn't work out, I was really looking forward to ordering a set as soon as you got it to work. Well thanks for the right up on this, and hope that you after market seats work out ok.
| sperry7 | 09-29-2007 01:35 AM |
Yeah, it's a bummer. Just another thing to buy now...sigh. My car is just taking more and more money to get it where I want it. And it's not even close.
Just so you know, this isn't impossible to make work. You need the wedge brackets, or Sparco or whatever for the Impreza. You need the corresponding bottom mount sliders. And you need side mount brackets to fit to the sliders. You could measure the stock side mount brackets and make them fairly easily, or have someone do it. I'm just not THAT die hard to make this work. Recaro's are cool with me ;) It's only going to be like a THOUSAND dollars.

Man I read this through hoping someone found a fix for this. I'm bummed. My 02 was perfect and now not only is my new seat too high but the damn mirror is in the middle of the windshield. sometimes blocks cars to my right so I stress in traffic on the freeway. Thanks to those who tried and kept us updated though.

Yes, I have a 2007 US model. Have you sold this to anyone yet? If so what modifications were needed?

That 100% will not work. Those are for Recaro's that are bottom mount seats, the stock seats are side mounted with little tabs that are riveted onto the sliders. Without completely fabricating a slider and sie mount braket to fit you cannot lower the stock seats. I have my seats out right now and have thought about it for a while.
I went for the NRG Carbon Fiber buckets with sparco sliders and rails and they are pretty awesome. Import Image racing has great prices on them too.

Hey, what's up, I have followed this post from the beginning. Nothing new to add, I just wanted to add my name to anything we can find. I did have a question, what was the specific money problem with custom, was there a price for safety testing? I think I know someone at a custom shop and it seems like that sort of place could do it easily?
