Lets see your driving shoes !! ( race shoes also).. part 3

OnTheGas 05-25-2006 10:19 AM

Chuck's
For weekend, urban assault peddle dancing, my low top converse all star chuck taylors are cheap, available around the corner many stores, light, narrow soles (to clear the pedals), and have good pedal feel... :)

For auto-x, and karting, I picked up some cheap wrestling shoes on sale someplace... amazingly light, hi-top (for karting), and great pedal feel!

For daily going back and forth to work, I have some refurbished italian loafers that are incredibly light, with the thin leather sole, etc. Excellent!
rallymaniac 05-25-2006 05:20 PM

i got these two:

I have some Speedwell Boost Hi's, but they're getting worn out and it looks like Speedwell ain't making shoes anymore.

I'm in the market for something new but have no idea what to get.

Vostok 7
Jag32 06-05-2006 06:20 PM

Puma Klim's. Almost the same as Speedcat's except there's rubber on the toe and side of the shoe so they don't get worn out as easily.

Hmmmmmm...spy photos. Good eyes! Those are the shoes that Travis and I have been testing and developing. They will be available at retail in January of 2007. They were designed to look more like a skate shoe than a driving shoe...but, have all the bells and whistles of a typical driving shoe (Nomex, FIA & SFI certs, etc.)...plus some DC proprietary technology (more details later...too early to talk about that now). They are very comfortable (more padding and a heel cushion) than other driving shoes because of all the standing around that a typical rally requires. We are really proud of how they are turning out.

Not the first Piloti G16 but I think the first of this style and that completes the set :) I use them for everything. My only pair of shoes that aren't dressy.
My latest pair to complement the G16. I have retired the 16s to leisure and the Monaco to driving and non grungy stuff.
Easy Rider 08-18-2006 07:40 PM

Just saw the new DC shoes for next spring.

They look GREAT.

Three diff. color versions of the FIA/SFI certified mid top one.
AND a low "street use" one (not nomex) in 3 color combos as well.

I will be doing my order this weekend.
Can't wait until January!
bjorn240 08-18-2006 09:03 PM

I can't wait for the street shoe in the gray/black w/ pink. Those look sweet!

The driving shoes are awesome - they are MUCH more comfortable than a regular driving shoe for standing around in. Autocrossers, rallycrossers, and rally crossers should definitely check them out!
Jonnyfilmboy 08-19-2006 05:52 PM

I have these in Nomex. But I'm not thrilled with them. They really aren't comfortable outside of the car. And in the car, I have to keep them loose or they make my feet feel weird on long road trips.

For autox and track I have the same blue Pumas everyone else bought that week :)

I think the blue is brighter than that, though. At the Subaru Challenge there must have been 15 of us with those exact shoes.

I run in something just like these, never thought about driving in them though...these are my weapon of choice for the track -

My feet are big, wide, and flat  Not exactly easy to fit in your typical driving shoe. I have 2 pairs of Pilotis though and they are super comfy:

Everyday kicking around shoes (I know, I have the same shoes as Kelly and it's pretty weak )

What are you guys wearing now? yes, I know this is from 3 years ago...

What shoes do you guys wear when you drive?
My first 3 years of autocross, I wore my Team Adidas shoes. I still have them, and still love them, however, they are just not comfortable anymore.
After that, for the past 2 years, I've worn my Puma driving shoes. They are great for driving, but suck to walk around in for more than 10 minutes.

I'm in the market for a good driving shoe that won't break the bank (think < $90). Suggestions? It has to be comfortable to walk in as well. I've already got my eye on the Piloti Prototipo...

And yes, I did just bump a similar thread with the exact same response.
MasterKwan 03-10-2010 11:26 AM

I wear sneakers I bought from Walmart. $13 I think.

How bout you just change shoes? Why waste good driving shoes on walking?
How bout you just change shoes? Why waste good driving shoes on walking?
Because I'm lazy and don't want to have to be burdoned by changing shoes when I get out of the car. My Team Adidas did a fantastic job of this...they are just now 4 years old.

PitwrkzZ1 03-10-2010 06:57 PM

iI've worn both Pilotis and regular old Nikes at autocross and karting...honestly I don't feel a difference. However, the Pilotis have a bolster on the left side of the shoe that make heel-toe easier than regular shoes if you use the side of the foot method. I actually missed the pedal a few times trying to heel-toe with a friend's G-Force race boots, probably because they are designed for people who do it the non-noob way.
iLuveKetchup 03-10-2010 07:47 PM

Pilotis are the worst!! The heel is so thick & wide that it gets in the way when LFB. If fireproof is not needed, I like cheap Asic wrestling shoes from Ebay.

How are they? I love the way those look. Are they comfortable to walk in?
DutchOven 03-11-2010 04:13 PM

yeah they're very comfortable indeed but it's on the expensive side. The sole is thin for better pedal feel and they're pretty light.

Only thing is that the bottom is almost treadless, so if you step on a wet surface, expect to have traction issues.
boost junkie 03-11-2010 04:15 PM

I have these in black, they are awesome in the car. Not so awesome for walking around.

I learned to heel/toe in my dress shoes (driving my saabaru for work ftl) and now when I try to heel/toe in my actual driving shoes, I find them way too narrow, and my foot slips (I generally use the outside of my right foot to blip the throttle while braking, when down shifting).

anyone else have this issue? or no I need to change the angle of the dangle at which I heel/toe???

I've got some TeamDI Nomex mid top shoes, they have a nice thin sole, SFI rated, and are really comfortable. These are really cheap too, you can pick them up from some dealers for $65-75!

Also got some Piloti's for walking around...thats about all they are good for. As mentioned before the sole is very thick, and i've had 2 pairs rip on me before.

I picked up a set from OG on their liquidation, got the Nomex boots for $45! These normally are $180! Comfortable, but still has the sole problem.
