my fastest was an 1:43.007
No wonder you beat me every time we play. I think that's the fastest lap yet.
nerdydorkus 03-06-2007 10:29 PM

Gary, yea i only got 12 laps in because i had to go to work, now ive lost my groove and gotta work back into it. you should probably quit and re-enter after 20-30 laps just to be safe. and do a fresh oil change while your at it for that whopping 2 hp. and what are you using? i'm just using the gt force pro wheel (with the shifter). and stock settings on the car and the wheel with no driving aids.

i honestly have no idea where i am going to find 4 seconds. makes me wonder if i should even post my time lol. i tried everything like using the dirt on the corkscrew with two tires on the bumps. trying to cut as much as possible without cheating.

does anyone have any pointers? or maybe a video? youtube?
ratt_finkel 03-06-2007 10:43 PM
Looks like 1:44.7 is the best I'm going to do for this challenge. I suck at Leguna Seca. Of course with Gary in this, I might find that I suck at all the courses. :D Can't wait to see what this weeks challenge is going to be.
Geez Tim, I called you twice today. I mean, if you were really that worried about me beating you. You could've just said so.

Hello,

Would be funny to require winners to post a video of the winning lap. Or provide the ghost file or something. :P

i like this idea and thought about this ahead. I saved the file and everything. My only problem is how do i go about putting the file on the net. Sorry im not that much of a comp geek. Sorry.
lil'redwagon 03-06-2007 11:43 PM

1:46.917 was the best i could do in one lap. no points for me! oh well.
GarySheehan 03-07-2007 12:43 AM

Joel,

That's a great idea. It solves the whole video issue. Just save the ghost lap.

Unfortunately, at least with this car/this track, my ghost is no longer updating! Not sure if I've got a corrupted game file or something. That would suck because I'm not going to go through all the damned Gold licenses again!

Great times, guys!

Oh well, practice makes perfect. And I'm determined!

How would one get the ghost file off the PS2?

sTiknight 03-08-2007 12:46 AM

well guys i have a confession to make! I was wonder why the heck i was off from everyones time. Being that i am a honest person i check to see if my bro had touched any of the setting. And as i check through them i noticed that he had switched the tire settings from medium to soft, which is why i was able to hold the line better. I bet Sheehan would totally blow me out of the water same goes for the other guys after him if they used the softs. Well I sorry again and im glad i caught this problem. I have nothing to hide. With that said if mattdell would adjust the points issue would be solved.. The time i set with the mediums was 1:44:180. So hopefully he will adjust the times to help solve this problem. Again sorry our bad, but mostly my bro for changing the settings and not telling me of this.

oh and all your gran turismo are belong to me. i know it's too late but i ran 104 seconds (1:44, stiknight) with ~10 laps of practice last night... watch out this week

Excel can't sort by the GT4 format, so I used seconds. Just subtract 60 and put 1: in front of the number you get. Everyone's times were in the 40's, so 103 is 1:43.

-Matt
Chiketkd 03-08-2007 04:43 PM

Thanks for the corrections/updates Matt!

So what kinda times are people turning on Week 2's course? As tires are open, I imagine everyone will be scrambling for racing super soft! ;)
RBelcher00 03-08-2007 05:47 PM

Worrrrrrrd

I havent even attempted it yet.
Gotta make some time.
Haha

I'm addicted to GT4 again... Thanks MattDell...

My fastest so far for the second challenge is 1:09.xxx.
Rymep 03-08-2007 06:09 PM

I did 1:12.024 on the stock tires.

But somehow I can't beat it with soft racing, I dunno whats up.
espEVO 03-08-2007 07:11 PM

1:07.xxx here on softies...I like this car much better than the Miata, no matter how gentle I was on the controls all that thing did was slide...I'm gonna throw down a few more laps tonight, but that time will probably be it for me, going on vaca tomorrow

1:07.999 or a 1:07.001? :p

Nice time! This is a good track - next to impossible for anyone to cheat. We'll see who the good drivers are and which ones plummet from their standings last week! ;)

rt4me 03-08-2007 07:48 PM

Slapped some Super Soft tires on it and did a quick 10 laps to get a feel for it. Got to a 1:06.998 but it was really messy. With all the aids off I can't seem to get the car to rotate like I'd like. I'd think with around 600 HP (can't remember the exact number) that if you goose the throttle with traction control off that it would get the rear in to step out. Oh well. I figure the good drivers can get around a 1:04...or better.
wgas 03-08-2007 07:59 PM

1:09:5xx after the first set of tries... worst thing about the jp version is the only difference is all prices have "00" added at the end to make the numbers more realistic to yen. obviously this means the prizes follow this too, but it is just a sad thought spending 61mil on a car. lol
MattDell 03-08-2007 08:01 PM

I'm at a 1:05.8xx. I know I can squeeze out another second, it's just a matter of doing it. I'm sure Gary and others will be in the 1'04 for sure, if not 1'03.

My best thus far is a 1:07.2xx with soft racing tires and no driver aids. I didn't even get on the rumble strips yet, so I feel a low 1:06 is definitely doable on this track. rt4me - not sure about a 1:04! ;)

Predwolf 03-08-2007 10:11 PM

Are you kidding me?!!?

Shortly after that OT thread I deleted my GT4 data because I wanted to start anew...

Oh man...I gave up like, 600ish cars and a huge chunk of money.

I'll hop in on this next week or so. Need some time to get back on my feet.
RexInit 03-08-2007 10:56 PM

1:06.132..... i can't get any lower. stupid german cars....I've never been good at tuning the german ones lol
espEVO 03-09-2007 07:09 AM

so my final time will be 1:07.431, no time to whittle it down.

Since I probably won't be in the points again....for those of you complaining about lots of understeer it's relatively easy to tune out with tires and weight balance. Since you are looking for front grip run Super Soft, then run Soft/Medium in the rear, you can also shift weight towards the back to try and overload the rears. Helped me a little bit, but the on-throttle push is what kills you on exits.
rt4me 03-09-2007 08:12 AM

Yup, changing the rear tires to something a bit harder was what I'm going to try next.

Does anyone else find the weight distribution interface unintuitive? You can set the slide to positive or negative numbers but what does that mean? Positive is more weight to the front I'm guessing? If you don't add ballast does it even do anything. It's not that easy to move big hunks of weight around in a stock car.

This might not be the correct or fastest method but here's what I'm doing. I'm going from memory so I'm not foot-perfect. Setup on the far left side and I think around 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down the rumble strip I start my turn in, very smooth. I've got the gas floored through the whole right-left section but I tap the brake with my left foot at turn in. It cause the car to grip a bit better, rotates the rear just a bit and doesn't loose me much speed. You've got to be smooth with the steering inputs. If you start jerking the wheel then the car will push a bit and then your going to get over in the grass.

Of course I barely scored any points in the last challenge so I might be going about it all wrong. :D
Chiketkd 03-09-2007 01:46 PM

That's about right - you can also get some forward weight transfer and rotation of the rear by a simple throttle lift (i.e. not even tapping the brakes). It makes for a scary ride at times, but do it right and you'll pick up about 0.1-0.2 seconds through there.

P.S. What I really wanna know is how Matt Dell ran a 1:05.8xx?!! Damn dude. That's freaking nuts!
GarySheehan 03-09-2007 02:33 PM

I agree. Matt is sick on this one.

I got down to very consistent 1:07.1's and .2's, but kept making mistakes lap after lap while leading my ghost that I finally had to get up and leave in disgust. I know more time is there, I just HATE this car (always have).

I haven't started playing with F/R tire differences nor weight transfer. Maybe that will help.

I'm just getting sick of spinning right before the hairpin.

MattDell 03-09-2007 03:07 PM

Really? I mean, it took me a long time to get 1:05, but I figured Gary and others would still kill me. :p

My problem is with the loooooong left turn after the first tunnel. I've done quicker laps up until that point.

Driver Aids are allowed?
Joel Gat, 1.8L 03-09-2007 05:00 PM

Hello,

Anyone know if you can hook this device up to your USB port on a PC and read the data off it?
http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&product_id=802581
If so, replays / ghosts could be saved, transfered to computers, uploaded, downloaded, transfered to PS2, and watched. Anyone who wants in would have to buy the $15 adapter.

I just don't know if you can read the data with a PC. And I'm lame and don't own a PS2 so I can't test it myself.

Hotrodguru - who cares :P They make slow people faster and fast people slower...

Joel
MattDell 03-09-2007 05:20 PM

Yep, driver aids are allowed.

I'm using 1 oversteer, 11 understeer, 1 TCS

-Matt
Chiketkd 03-09-2007 07:49 PM

I'll have to give those a try - if I improve I'll give you credit! ;)
