Abdo, ahlein, keefak !
My name is Karl. It seems Mako already mentioned my name earlier in the thread.
I just moved back to Beirut a month ago, and I saw your videos last night. Great driving. You sure know how to flick that baby left and right.
I believe you know Elie Abourjeily, I believe he once took my car to your garage to get it tuned (97 Impreza GT Turbo blue). He has talked a lot about you and told me I'll be going to see your shop sometimes in the near future :)
I've been looking to find a safe, alternative (and relatively cheap) means of racing ever since I left Los Angeles. We unfortunately do not seem to have Autocross in this country, but I am sure I can find something.
Let's talk when you get a chance, PM me your contact info.
Looking fwd to talking with you soon

Rex8,
Road-racers don't know the real meaning of the word hairpin, or as my co-driver puts it a "1-". If you're not sliding, you're doing a three point turn.

To get my STi to step out I go way too hot or clutch kick the crap out of it.
Like I said, it's confusing. Either lots of top level rally drivers are a) misjudging all the corners, b) driving in a slower way because it's more entertaining, c) know some secret about friction that doesn't apply to the rest of us
I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I'm just looking for an answer. When I read advice on learning to rally cross and it talks about taking smooth lines without sliding, then I see WRC videos of cars drifting or flicking every turn, I just don't get it.
At least if your on gravel sliding/spinning helps sweep away the loose top layer and get grip on the firm ground underneath so they are actually getting a higher coeffeicient of kinetic friction then the correspondind static one.
however for tarmac rallies you can look at this thread I posted a while back. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=859577

I have been with Abdo in my car on a old rally stage, very twisty road, it was part of my apprentice ship in rally driving, we were supposed to have this every other week so I can learn each time something new, Dudes you don't understand a thing, it has been some month now and I still haven't figured out how to negotiate the turns the way he did or at least 25% of what he did!! The precision involved in taking a hairpin the way he does is crazy, if you want to mesure things you mesure in milimeters.
And I know the Kart track he was driving on in the video, we should film another driver trying to do the same so you undertand the complexity and the precision of what he was doing.

I have a Lebanese friend here in Boston (Chadi Berouthy) that is a fan and friend of yours from back home. He introduced me to the Lebanese rally scene with video of the Rally of Lebanon and various other events a while back and it is good to see you posting. I have been seeing Billy Karam up in Quebec at the Andros Trophy event for the last three years. Are you doing any production WRC events this year? Chadi has been trying to get me over to the international event for the last 6 years but I never seem to make it...maybe this year.

Karl, the other driver mentioned in this thread, has been back in the states. Came over to run in a couple of SCCA National Solo events as things fell apart in his home. His family has been up in the hills above Beruit.
