New style WRX shift trim part 2

MB38 01-30-2004 05:03 AM

Are they sold outside of eBay at a fixed price, or is it eBay only?
ripvw 01-30-2004 01:07 PM

I would just send Cory an email from his website. I think the Ebay thing is temporary until the website design is finished. I've found him very quick to respond to emails.
Lachlan 01-30-2004 02:00 PM

What was the price? I never got a chance to see it on ebay :(

i believe i remember seeing it selling for $40 on ebay. great price for what appears to be a high quality product! cory - hurry with the vendor status por favor!!!
ripvw 01-31-2004 12:09 AM

I paid $44 plus $6 shipping for mine - but that was the "Ebay special" 2 weeks ago. Not sure what the current price is.

But given the alternatives - both more expensive sell-tapping screw designs - the product is indeed a bargain. All you have to do is see and handle the trim Cory has created to know that it is of high quality and ingenious design.

It certainly is a fitting match for the Prodrive shift knob - which is another sensory delight.

yea i got an sti trim off ebay for 22 bucks shipped. well when i got it it had 6 holes for the screws but he only gave me 4 screws. so i got some extra from my garage. i had to shave away some plastic from the console but after all is said and done it looks sick. now all i need is a airleather shift knob

You are not referring to the same trim that this thread is about. This thread is not about the STi trim or it's cheap replicas. This is an entirely different product made by Dropped Clutch. The trim you got was not from us.

Something is seriously wrong with our web host. It's been like that for at least a few hours. And the tech support voicemail box is full; I can't even leave a message. :(

If you email or PM me directly, I'll send you a copy of the instructions.

I've got the STI short-throw shifter and Kartboy shifter bushings - so it shifts pretty damn nicely too...

I just did a review on the bushings:

I just got mine today and installed it. The quality is just outstanding. The back plate is super thick and once its installed, its very sturdy.

Yes, we will keep making them. If fact, a 3rd and 4th batch are currently in the metal finishing process.

Dropped clutch, if this was answered im sorry, but are these available outside of ebay?
NeoteriX 02-10-2004 02:59 AM

I just got mine in. Like the others have said, excellent piece. I would highly reccomend screwing in the bolts as you drill each hole!

The anodized finish is excellent... Its too bad I already scratched mine a lil. AUGH!!!!
rane 02-10-2004 09:30 AM

Bought it
Cory,
Just ordered through paypal. Thanks for the PM

Doh! Perhaps, when we have more kits in stock we will offer replacement tops for sale by themselves just in case of such accidents.
kenchan 02-10-2004 11:16 AM

Im using the Autospeed one that I bought a while ago...
it looked like it was more or less 'handmade' than anything.

which to me was a good thing. :)

plus it has a WRX logo on there and I have their matching
dead pedal. looks very good.
NTP WRX 02-10-2004 11:40 AM

I'm interested in getting one of the chrome finish trims. I have a question first, though. Does the chrome version come with the raised screws or does it come with the flush ones like the anodized version? See pics:

Chrome (note raised screws):

Anodized (flush screws):

Thanks!!

Neil.
NeoteriX 02-10-2004 11:59 AM

I think it's how the pictures and you have described it. If you look at the directions the tools are slightly different.
NTP WRX 02-10-2004 04:43 PM

Ack. You're right...after looking at the instructions it does say:
9/64" Allen Key (Chrome)
5/64" Allen Key (Clear Anodized)
11/32" Socket and Socket Wrench (Chrome)
5/16" Socket and Socket Wrench (Clear Anodized)
So DroppedClutch, could it possibly be made available without the "taller" screws? If not, then I'll probably go with the anodized version. I like the chrome look better, but not the non-flush screws. Was there a reason for the difference? Thanks,

Neil.

Neil, we can send you either type of screw with either finish.

The reason for the difference: We thought that the flush mount screws looked "unfinished" with the chrome because of the color difference (chrome vs stainless steel). The taller cap-head screws were used with the chrome because, we felt, the added texture helped in the astetics of this color mismatch. But that is only an opinion, and there is no right or wrong when it comes to taste. We think that polishing the flush mount screws would look nice with the chrome. We can get the flush mounted screws polished for you if you'd like.

Anyway, like I said we can sent either type of screw. And for a few dollar more we can send both sets of screws and you can decide which to use.

In your earlier post on the Autospeed trim, you stated:

"Since the autospeed trim is completely flat, I took a small
mallet and gently bent the trim to match the contour of the
console. it made a less of a burden on the self-tapping
screws that they supply. I kinda worried that it would begin
to pop out on its own in the summer time.

fit: nnn, not J-quality fitment, but acceptable.
finish: very hand made look. maybe they sent me a
handmade mockup???"

It was that post that made me wait for something like Cory's design in the first place. I wanted something to match the visual impact of the Prodrive shift knob and I got it. I would imagine that Cory could put a "WRX" or "STI" logo on the trim if someone wanted it that way...

Cory,

Is this something you would be willing to do? I love your design but I wanted one that says "WRX".

Thanks in advance,

I got mine yesterday and installed it with no issues. Well, except for the fact i have a broken wrist, but even with that i got it installed and it looks very very good. It completes the shifter area.

Absolutely! We can machine the STi and WRX logos in them. We can also do custom text or logos such as crew name and company name. All we need to know is where (top or bottom of the ring) you want it, what you want, and the artwork if applicable. It will cost a little more, but definitely something we are happy to do for anyone.

I have 4eat, and I was hoping if I can put STi shifter trim on my car, since the trim makes the car cleaner and much better look.
I will be one of the first one to get this if it's made. :D

Check out www.droppedclutch.com

They had some problems with their anodizer. It says as of right now, they will be discontinuing this item. They do still have some left for sale. I just got mine in the mail. You can also order from their website until supplies are gone.
FKell 03-04-2004 11:40 AM

These are truely a great product. I am sad to hear that they are having problems with the production, as there really is not anything out there that is such a quality product as well as quality designed to fit "out of the box" without needing to modify the shift-boot cover.

Hopefully the new powder coating process will be as high a quality as the origional pieces. On the bright side, it will be easier to repair any scratches on the powder coat (just get it re-coated).
ronaldwrx 03-04-2004 12:25 PM

yah powder coating might be nice
