New WRX carbon fiber hood design tell me what you think perfect for front mounters.
1 Attachment(s)
Here is a picture of a hood we are going to have made in carbon fiber let me know what you think of it. And if you would like to be put on the list to be contacted when it is available.
I think it's awesome!

Cost and time frame...
The cost of the hood is going to be around the $800 mark and should be ready sometime in the next 3 months or so.
Just thought you would all like to know :)

A question that pops to my head right now is how is that that you are calling a new design if it obviously isn't a new design. This is Prova hood, not your new design. ;)
This hood, BTW is made to order by Prova and cost $3200. Thats not even carbon fiber. Simply hand laid fiberglass.

It will be made out of carbon fiber not fiberglass. That's what he meant if IM NTO mistaken...

You are correct sir! However we are having the style made in carbon fiber. And as I stated it's a new design that we will be carrying :)
Since the Prova hood is soooo darn expensive and un-attainable by many we are going to make a great quality carbon fiber and possible fiberglass replica for a reasonable and more attainable price :)
Fair enough?

The Prova car has a front mount IC.
Would I have to have a front mount too, or will the scoop on top work for those with the stock top mount?

I just saw a carbon fiber hood that my friend orderd for his eclipse.
The hood is 100% carbon fiber and you can see through the hood cause of how thin of a layer of carbon fiber they put on.
My question: Can you see through your carbon fiber hoods or do you put enough carbon fiber so it does not look thin and cheap.
Is there any chance you could take a pic of one of your hoods up close from the side showing the thickness of the hood.
Thank you very much.

I'd definately consider a fiberglass version
$800 is a little too rich for me for a new hood - but I'd definately buy a less costly fiberglass version (provided it's not too much heavier than the stock hood).

Yeah, I for a FMIC, I rather have something like this:

"A runnig-wind is discharged efficiently and engine room is cooled efficiently because this bonnet has two air duct at the central of front, and it has two air duct at the right-left part on rear part. A curved line of the central outlet part is designed in order to fit the body line. It can prevent vibration of bonnet at the time of a high-speed-running because it is the three hold type which uses both two bonnet pin and normal holder."
Or with one vent behind the other:

"Two large size outlet ducts are placed at right and left in the central part, and the heat air of a radiator and the heat air front part of engine room is discharged. The outlet duct placed in the rear center discharges the heat air of exhaust and the engine rear positively. Since exhaust manifold is placeed at the engine rear, as for these vehicles, heat air tends to collect in an engine room. An outlet duct is required in order to protect a steering gear box and other apparatus from a heat trouble. This product is carrying out the lineup of the two kinds, a carbon type and a FRP type."
Those are the ones I'd like to see as I havo no need for the center intake anymore:devil:

Any wind tunnel testing results?:)
It looks like the vents and scoop are as far forward as they could be pushed. The vents must get the best high velocity/low pressure air near the leading edge of the hood. They are in a great postion to exhaust the hot radiator air, without sending it right back into the scoop. The hood scoop appears to be forward far enough so that the intake manifold is cooled. It also has fences so that air can't easily escape to the sides. The back of the hood scoop is much smoother and more gradual.
They vents also have little kick-ups. SWEET!:)

Yeah, the leading edge lips on the hood heat exhaust ports produce a venturi effect pulling a vacuum on the underside of the hood and really do a good job of evacuating hot air from the engine compartment. Very nice design!

New WRX carbon fiber hood design tell me what you think perfect for front mounters
Why is it perfect for a FMIC (as oppsed to TMIC)? As aspera noted, the hood scoop actually starts at the leading edge of the hood. I can't see why one would go thru all the trouble if one had a FMIC. To me, it looks as if they designed it for use at high speed to deliver alot of air to a TMIC w/o the high drag that a STi type hood scoop would make (notice the shallow scoop & how it expands towards the rear). BTW, are you making these hoods from a mold of an actual Prova hood, or just guesstimating the design?

What I meant by the leading edge of the hoodscoop was the top lip. This is the really the only important part. I'm sure it helps to put up side fences, and cut a path to the leading edge of the hood itself. What I'm wondering is if Prova has moved the hoodscoop forward so that they can cool the whole intake manifold. They may have done it just to smooth out the backside of the scoop, or it might just be an optical illusion.
I'm not sure on where Prova puts their intercooler. The underhood picture I saw doesn't show any obvious pipe work for a FMIC. It shows the stock BOV in place, and it shows the two aluminium tubes that normally run in front of the stock IC. The two tubes are not attached with bolts, and the BOV is duct taped!!??? You can't really see the IC itself.
None of the gallery pictures show a FMIC of the kind we are used to seeing.

SWEET! It actually says "sweet" on the front. It is the Gram Lights car. This site has a great gallery. I found a picture of the car in the 2002/08/02 update on the gallery page, Jeff's pictures. There is also a WRblue Prova street car. It has a Prova hood (naturally) but doesn't have a hoodscoop. There is more than one version of the Prova hood! UGH!:)

Prova-tuned Legacy B4 - THE ULTIMATE B4
From the pictures of the 2002 Tokyo Auto Salon that apexjapan.com has on their website, it looks like Prova has already done a twin FMIC setup, with both intercoolers being buried back by the radiator. Twintercoolers? It's too bad the WRX doesn't have more room in the nose.
