I noticed that I forgot to do the shifter plate, so I gotta do that tomorrow :o

Looks awesome bro! I do think however that it would be nice to have a little contrast, to help break up visual space a little. I think it looks great as is without the shifter plate painted also ! Just my $.02

Yeah I would leave it too, gives the contrast you need, and if I didn't plan on keeping my stock HU, I would be all over this mod, but then the stock HU sticks out like a sore thumb. :sadbanana:

Yea..I totally screwed up one piece when I did this. I got a dog hair in the mix.
AllI did was score the dried dip around the back edge of the piece and pulled slowly. Came off in one piece.

Once you get the piece with the head unit in it off, you will see how to remove the hvac controls. Once the hvac unit is out of the housing, just gently pull the knobs off.

So I took the Dip :p
It's pretty cool stuff and it has a rubber feel to it. I happened to have some old trim laying around. I then picked up a new STI shifter trim ring and an Autometer 2-gauge pod cluster trim. Unfortunately the Autometer piece isn't hear yet, and I ran out of time today and couldn't install the shifter trim, but here are some pictures of what I did...
Here is the prep work (click on the thumbnails for larger views):

The bottom two shots are a little dusty but the trim cleans right up easily. I'll take better shots when it is all finished but I am pretty happy with it. You can see how cool the texture is with the picture of the STI trim right on my seat. :D

But yeah, I did the seat belts and they turned out like ass. I used the vinyl dye and no bueno. But other than that stuff is going good! The stuff on the heater is dust and not the tan showing though. I left the heater vents un coated and coated every thing else with the vinyl spay. The vinyl spray gives it more of a smooth texture. :alien:

who sells plasti dip in rattlecan form. i can only find it in a non spray container
maybe PM timemasheen to see where he saw the non spray container. not sure how you would paint with it, but its worth looking into if you have more to do.

Either touch it up or peel it off (easy, right?) :) More seriously, if you need to touch up you can also buy it as a brush on can. I haven't tried that, though, so no idea if it gives a good result in terms of matching the spray finish etc.

you'd be surprised how difficult spray paint is to come off of stuff, in some places it might flake, and others its on there like a bitch, and then you get stuff to take it off and it ends up destroying the plastic piece, trust me tried this on my integra

plasti-dip...I did on my interior, my son was with me in the car..had a scew driver and scatched it to hell....so found a corner and rubbed in a little, and was able to pell the paint right off. Since it has a rubber compound in it, it was very easy. Have done this twice with my gauge pod and dash.

Texture vs Smooth

I'm doing this mod this weekend.
I've heard that depending how close or far you spray it you can vary the amount of texture.
- Is it possible to get NO texture at all - aka completely smooth? Maybe if you used the canned "dipping" form instead of rattlecan spray-on form?
- And where does the texture come from? Are there bits of rubber chunks in the paint itself or does it form the crinkles during drying?
I'm aiming to get a perfectly smooth S202 interior but rubbery if that makes sense.

I have already done all the silver plastic up front, a-pillar, dome light, F-n mini sun visor, and map lights and that was with only 2 cans. Only prep was removing the parts and cleaning with rubbing alcohol. I just bought 4 more cans and I am going to do the B,C, and D-pillar's tomorrow. (WGN FTW) Oh and red JDM hazard switch is pimp I didn't know that it lit up. Now I just have to figure out what I am doing about those damn sun visors.
Oh to answer your question if you follow the instructions on the can it comes out pretty smooth and note textured. But it does have a rubber-y??? feel to it. So your fingers won't slide as easy as with regular paint.
The texture is paint droplets basically it's the mist of the paint. It's just a far away spraying.

I'm gonna have some fun experimenting this weekend  hopefully get a nice reasonably smooth S204 factory finish (but rubber ftw)

so i finally decided to jump on the S204 bandwagon and paint my interior.
the hardest part was finding the plastidip in a spray can. i had to go to 3 different home depots, and i only found one can. luckily, i didnt even use all of it.

dont mind the crappy cell phone pic, it makes the plasti dip look very uneven, but i assure you, it is all exactly the same on every panel.
i want to plasti dip everything now. this stuff is awesome.....

I'm not too sure if it was posted in here already, but when I do get around to painting all my interior stuff, I'm also going to pick this up. Maybe some others would find this useful/want it.

when you spray plasti dip on the pillars and other parts, does it match close enough to the dash? I've seen some where its super black and I hate that!
Anyone have any problems with it scrachin off and showing wear?

Its definitely black, but I think it matches pretty good, the texture helps. The OEM dash is a very dark charcoal so there is a slight color difference.
Its pretty durable, but I dont know if I would use it on something like a door sill. The more coats and thicker you lay it on the more durable it is.
I did my center console around the radio and hvac and it is holding up very well.

Who makes something that is like a dark dark charcoal to match the dash? I don't like the look of the real dark black, I think it clashes.
Has anyone ever taken apart the seatbelt pieces and had them done compeltely?
DId you somehow do the HU as well? This is the only thing holding me back form this, I dont think that my stock head unit will look good with black all around it.
Anybody know? I will do this if i can match the HU, but just isnt my cup of tea if i cant match it.

Seatbelts wear the plasti-dip off uber fast from the seatbelt going through the hole on the pieces. I tried it on my old tan belts, just as a test mostly.
I have a black double DIN Clarion head unit and it looks good with the black dash. I don't think you'd have much success painting the stock HU.

2 coats from a sharpe will make them a semi-gloss black with no visible lines.

excellent thread! Wanted to say whats up since im new...saw plasti dip at home depot about 6 months ago and knew it was a good invention...glad to see people using it, good feedback and advice throughout. Any thoughts on exterior? How well do you think it would stick to clear coat? I have some ideas, and im not afraid to muck things up, so i may just give it a go...just wondering if anyone has any thoughts.
