prosport gauges? part 20

nation1979 03-09-2009 03:45 AM

currently i have the boost & oil pressure installed using a autometer gauge bezel.it matchs my sti gaues perfectly.with what i saved buying prosport i was able to purchase a ton more mods.i had planned on over 500 for the full defi kit.i got the boost, oil pressure, wideband and bezel for all 3 for 75% of what the defi cost me
nation1979 03-09-2009 03:47 AM
k installed my boost gauge a couple weeks ago but never hooked up the orange wire. its the wire u hook up to the headlight wire so it changes color at night. anyways im woundering what wire u guys spliced? i really dont feel like spending an hour to find the right wire or snoop around to find the post that already answers this ? :/
im not sure what your asking
when i installed mine i knew i would be installing much more.so i installed a power relay box under my dash.it gets power straight from the battery and a turn on signal from a ignition source.so now when i istall anything i just tap into that.it keeps it clean and neat under the dash

It's good to use either the illumination wire from the stereo or tap into the fuse marked illumination in the fuse block
Xcelr8to1320 03-09-2009 12:02 PM

i wired everything off the clock harness. all the wires are labeled there so it was very easy to do.

thanks thats the answer i was looking for!!! although i never thought about going to the fuse block i was thinking more along the wires in the steering column. but ur way looks so much easier.

THE factory connections for the factory stock boost gauge is behind the radio.
this is the best way to wire it up, it's already there .

so if you already have the stock boost gauge installed use the wire harness that came with factory boost gauge and use the vacuum hose that's already installed or buy the correct rubber hose if you don't have factory gauge installed .

The hose kit that comes with the pro sport is very poor so I suggest that you use good quality vacuum hose instead .

Does anyone know how the oil pressure sender is hooked up? One plug has a "G" above it and the other one has a "WK" above it...
Are all the newer gauges bezels' a darker color now?
Those are Premium Series with peak/hold they are more of a gun metal color.

"G" is for Green wire going to the gauge.
"WK" is for Ground. (must have)

Ok, good I asked because I thought G = Ground :D Thanks!
SLWWRX 03-28-2009 12:48 AM

Blue peak/hold
I'm waiting and hoping they come out with a blue peak/hold series!
Prosport Gauges 03-28-2009 07:34 AM

Blue/White Peak hold is already available. Simply choose your color on the Premium series(Peark/warning) gauges. Amber/White, Green/White and Blue/White.

This may already be somewhere else in the thread, but can you switch colors around for warning etc?

I wish there was one that matched my 03 wagon dials better (yellow arm, white lettering), but I'm thinking of the blue/white IF I can have the white be the default and blue the warning/startup?

Thanks
ryan_west06 04-02-2009 09:32 AM

Our Blue/White series might be the best pick then. Sorry no yellow needle.

You can either have the gauge letters blue or white. depends on how you wire it up. Most ppl run them white during the day and once you turn the headlights on they turn blue :)

I just installed my premium boost gauge. It powers on, but does not do the opening sweep or function. What is the most likely cause of this? I have the power wires hooked up as follows and had to extend the wires on this harness as well as the harnes hooked to the boost sensor. Im thinking I don't have a good connection on one of the wires on the latter harness mention. Any ideas?

black-black on radio
red-green w/ orange strip on HVAC
orange-violet on radio

hmmm, Does the gauge work? as far as reading boost?

Were does the needle sit with just the key on engine off?
scprs 04-13-2009 10:08 AM

PROSPORT = FAIL :( have them and are not accurate at all cool is about it
Finch1750 04-13-2009 02:49 PM

the gauge isnt reading boost. the needle is sitting in the exact same place it has been in (right above zero), all it does is light up. Im thinking its either the gauge or a bad wire linking the gauge in boost sensor. I just dont want to redo it all without a second opinion on the cause.

What adpater plate are you using? were is it leaking from? Have you reused the gasket?
Finch1750 04-15-2009 12:08 AM

Now i am at a total f****** loss...i unplugged the gauge after it was working to put it in the pod and mount it. when I plugged it back in the needle goes straight to 30psi and doesnt move. any ideas?

Krang 04-17-2009 04:03 PM

I just installed Boost/Wideband/Oil Pressure/Oil Temp/ and Water temp Premium Amber/White guages that I actually bought used from Ryan West ( great guy btw ) and I am very impressed. The opening sequence is very nice and the needles stay in sync, the boost guage is accurate and fast responding, and the oil temp/pressure guages do their job nicely.

The sandwitch adapter plate is easy to get tight, I would suggest a second pair of hands if you can get someone to help, but the key is to tourque the crap out of it basically. ( and use a new gasket of course, that should go without saying though ) I did not have a friend to help so what I ended up doing was zip tying the plate to my trans to hold it in position and then torque it down. Filter goes over the plate no problem, no leaks, love these guages!

Thanks again Ryan!
ProdigyScooby 04-17-2009 04:36 PM

thought i would add too...

just got my boost gauge (green) and easy install, perfect, fast shipping, and looks beautiful. very bright too, but not TOO bright.

Thanks again! :)
The Beej 04-17-2009 04:42 PM

some times my boost gauge will fluctuate about 5 psi really fast, continuously until i turn off and restart the car. with the car off and the key on its supposed to sit at 0 but sometimes it fluctuates there too, so im pretty sure its the gauge and not my boost...any help?
The Beej 04-18-2009 06:37 PM

The Satch 04-20-2009 02:20 AM

installed mine today, doing the oil galley plug with a standard allen wrench is a pain in the ass, 12" extension and 6mm socket allen definitely reccomeded. just one question, when i turn the car on and off, the guages dont do the openeing ceremony in unison, same with turning the car off, and the pattern always changes, it isnt just one guage being slow. they are daisy chained, but i dont think that would have anything to do with it.
Doomsayer 04-25-2009 04:46 PM

Hey guys, quick questions.

Installing my A/F ratio and volt meter gauge first. Which o2 sensor do I hook it up to? Theres 4 wires in the front and I don't know which one. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

what? mine came with a new Bosch O2 sensor, im pretty sure you need an aftermarket sensor and a new sensor bung welded in.

Its not a wideband. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought only the wideband comes with the new one?

This is what I got.

EDIT: Sorry I am fail. I hook it up to the rear o2 senor. lawl.

Okay, still have a problem.

There's 2 wires in the back, blue and black. Which one do I hook it up to? I feel retarded.

Have you checked your connections? Sounds like it could be a loose connection.
00boostedRS 06-09-2009 11:50 PM

Yeah they are very nice gauges and a great alternative to Defi's. Im running a boost guage in my Legacy SS
wawawrx 07-21-2009 06:31 PM

do the premium and regular gauges use the same lighting scheme (aka are they the same exact color/brightness?)

not sure if i want to spend the extra $40 on a oil pressure gauge that is basically a filler if the regular matches my premium boost gauge fine
ryan_west06 07-22-2009 10:07 AM

everything is virtually the same except the premium gauges come with the peak/warn feature.

One slight difference between the premium and performance is the bezel color is different color.
jackansi 07-22-2009 01:54 PM

My second prosport oil pressure guage seems to be able to get back close to zero after about a month installed now.

Don't buy their overpriced remote install kit though. I got a 18" 1/8" NPT male-to-male hose for a manual grease gun (good to 4000psi btw) for $7.99 at lowes, a brass F-to-F 90 degree elbow for $1.29 and a 2" PVC conduit wall mount bracket for $.49. Beats paying three times that, and shipping too. Only thing I couldn't find locally was the galley plug, I got my seperate from fastwrx.com
ryan_west06 07-22-2009 02:03 PM

What about the Galley plug. did you get that?

^^ is it noticeable? i'll have it next to the premium boost gauge in my A-pillar i don't want it to look half assed
Prosport Gauges 08-21-2009 12:03 AM

side by side you can notice it, one is gun metal color and the other is more of a brushed aluminum. Also the premium series have a taller profile -sitting up higher.
wawawrx 08-21-2009 12:45 AM
side by side you can notice it, one is gun metal color and the other is more of a brushed aluminum. Also the premium series have a taller profile -sitting up higher.
why is it that i have an EGT premium gauge with the silver bezel while my oil pressure/boost premiums are gunmental???
Prosport Gauges 08-21-2009 08:01 AM

Huh?

the different colors are for different series. You have the same series gauges??
Mechie3 08-21-2009 04:16 PM

The lighting is a little different. My performance series blue is a little darker at night, the peak/warning blue is a little brighter in intensity and hue. The peak/warnings also stick out about 3/4" from the pod face. They look silly side by side, I just haven't had time for my other gauge swaps yet.
Craigs92X 08-21-2009 05:01 PM

It's been questioned previously, but any more update's on 60mm Green/White's?

So last Thursday i ordered a amber/white water gauge from them, and than wed they tell me its on back order, almost a week later, they say that it wont be back in stock till Tuesday. On the website it still says in stock. Now i have always had slow shipping from prosport and i dealt with it because of the good customer service reviews, but the person who has been contacting by email me has been way less than helpful. They told me a week after my order they were shipping my gauge-hood but not my gauge. I still have not received my hood, and they have not offered or accepted to my plea to next day my gauge when they do get it in stock. My advice is only order if you want to wait a few weeks for your parts. I am sure my friend ray, also known as evo eater will agree as he is also waiting on a gauge from them as well.

I just got this IM to my Iphone and wanted to post right away on this.
We did have a mix up with our frieght forwarder, they gave us the wrong date. this is out of our hands guys we are sorry. Most likley your hood visor was shipped first class mail. our track record speaks for itself. Our shipping department is the best and ships right away when things are in stock. We are sorry for the delay.

PM your name on the order so i can take care of this when i get in the office monday.
tekfoc 09-11-2009 06:27 PM

same here I ordered this Sunday that passed . I contacted by e mail and they responded that my premium oil pressure gauge along with my sandwich adapter is back ordered to Tuesday .
blk05wrx 09-19-2009 03:05 PM

My oil pressure was also back-ordered. I got it today.

They're going in tomorrow morning. I'm using an OEM gauge pod that replaces the clock.

Kind of like this picture, but I painted the silver back plate flat black.
