prosport gauges? part 6

Madson26 01-31-2007 04:41 PM

got them ordered!!! thanks!
G3Red04WRX 02-01-2007 12:55 PM

Any word on a green/white color combo for 2" voltage gauge? I miss my voltmeter / exterior temp gauge that i had customed into my clock pod that i had to remove to install my 3 prosport gauges i bought. Im thinking gauge cluster bezel with voltage on left and one more gauge (not sure what yet) on the right. If these are going to be available anytime soon, i dont mind pre-ordering ahead to guarantee one from the first shipment to come in.
Ziggyrama 02-04-2007 01:47 PM

Ok, I promised pics a while ago and I finally got around to taking them. They're the WRX white/green series, EGT and oil pressure:

60mm stepdown 52mm won't fit Lotek Pillar Pod
Is there any fitment issues with the 60MM prosports being too deep for the defi triple dash pod. Thats my plan...Is it going to fit ??
Howdy,

The Prosport 60mm step-down to 52mm gauges won't fit into the 52mm Lotek 3-gauge pillar pod. The faces on the 60mm gauges are too wide to angle into the hole without bumping on the next pod above/below. That coupled with the 2.5" gauge barrel length made it an impossible fitment without doing serious damage to the Lotek pod or the 60mm/52mm Prosport stepdown gauges. I returned the 3-gauge pillar pod to Lotek after two days and got a refund. It cost me $22.00 in shipping, handling and restocking fees to find out the above (hardway) information .

I was also thinking about the Autometer ATM-20018 52mm 3-gauge dash pod on e-gauges:

http://www.egauges.com/vdo_acce.asp?Subgroup=WRX_Dash

but it's someone else's turn to do research :).

I just got my replacement boost sensor, and I still am getting the same thing, pinned at -30 hg, no flashing "fault" mode.

Is it possable the connectors the gauge came with are "pinned" out wrong?

El Supremo...should have just listed them in the personals and made back your money, or at least not lost $22.
El Supremo 02-06-2007 12:34 PM

I had to pay Lotek $11.00 for shipping and handling just to ship it to me (non-refundable right from the get) just to see if the gauges would fit (they don't). I had to pay a $6.00 charge to ship it back plus a 10% restocking fee ($5.00). By the time I reduce the price of the pillar pod to less than what Lotek sells it (for quick sale) and ship it to someone else, it would be cheaper money and timewise just to return it.

By the way, the majority of customer service calls we get -- on ALL gauges -- are related to user installation problems. Sometimes people wire up power to the wrong wire (constant on vs. switched, for example). Other times people don't hook the sensor to the gauge. Some people mis-understand the way the Subaru dimming circuit works (variable GROUND instead of variable power).

The moral of the story is, check EVERYTHING carefully, using your most objective, scientific eye, before you assume the gauge doesn't work. In most cases, the gauge is just fine, but the install is not...

is the black wire for the clock a variable ground then? would that cause the issue? I may have also gotten a sensor wire that was pinned out wrong...thats the only thing i can think of, everything else is 100% right, ive checked and checked and checked. I bought it right from prosport.

Yes, Prosport sells a sandwich adaptor, and its probably the most affordable one on the market.

Ah! That's a sort of U-shaped bracket that goes around the back of the gauge and allows you to clamp it to your gauge mount (or cup, or whatever). You still need the gauge mount.

The bracket is inside the little plastic bag in this picture:

I called Prosport yesterday to ask some questions on guages and I asked about the wideband guage. The guy I talked to said that it will be at least two months on the wideband gauge. He also said that it will be digital, similar to the AFR gauge and it would be priced lower than other widebands. Sounds like it would be worth waiting on.

The 60mm Prosport Water Temperture Gauge looks and works great. However, not really necessary because the stock, non-numbered, idiot gauge works OK. Plus, a Water Temp. Sender/Radiator Hose Adaptor ($25.00+shipping) is needed to splice into the radiator hose to accommadate the water temp sensing unit (supplied with the kit :)). I bought the 38mm Buddy Club temp. adapter from Evasive Motorsports.
As of this writing, Prosport doesn't sell the adaptors, however they have a "coming soon" ad posted on their webpage.

Hey prosport I finally got my gauge pod today threw my three gauges in and was pretty upset to find that two of them, my electronic boost, and my electronic oil pressure gauges in white/green were both working but were lighting up both green and white at the same time. I guess this has something to do with the relay in them. All I do is connect the power and ground and they come on a greenish white, opposed to my EGT which comes on red until I tap the color wires. Is there anything I can do or do I just need to send them back to you?

I have a similar issue, but I live with it.
I have an on/off/on switch I believe it's called it's been awhile since I put them in.
They default to amber, but during the day it is too dark to see, so I hit the switch then they are white. But, 1 in 3 times one of the 3 gauges sometimes 2 light up with both the white and amber light on causing a more orange look.
Don't know the problem, but it always defaults back to amber on the next start-up. I do have to say for the price I still love them and have worked quite nicely for at least 6 months now.

I talked to some prosport guys about this problem and when they mentioned that they had never seen it before and the fact that I had two gauges doing it made me think I was doing something wrong. Sure enough I put a voltmeter than an Ameter to my 12 V source and found it reading at a very low 8.44 volts. Ran down to my car and tested them there and they worked fine. Looks like those relays need a good initial volatage to throw them into the right direction.

Pasths maybe you should check that youve wired them in parallel and check your battery maybe? Gauges work great and I cant wait to put em in this weekend.
JiveMasterT 03-08-2007 06:38 PM

My gauge's back light flat out would not go on this morning. Maybe because of the cold or something, but it was not on at all. This afternoon it was working fine though... go figure.

G3Red04WRX 03-13-2007 08:10 PM

<--- After less than 2 months of actual use, i now have a defective EGT gauge. Already contacted Prosport directly to make good on their warranty claim. Just wanted to add myself to the "list" of people with a bad EGT gauge. Not sure what the problem is, sensor is in place, theres no nicks or kinks in the sensor wiring, the rest of the wiring is hardwired with the other 2 gauges that are working correctly, but the gauge just refuses to operate properly for the past few days. Up until this, i had very high hopes for these gauges, but knew it would be a crap shoot on the EGT. I guess its up to how well their customer service will take care of me now. On another note, i noticed that the white wire from my EGT gauge harness was loose and when i twisted the harness at just the right angle, the wire came out completely like it was not crimped tight enough. This most likely has nothing to do with the gauge problems, but now it bugs me i cant just leave it lit up in white with the sensor disconnected until i get my replacement. Oh well.

Prosport if your watching, take care of this customer! I have spread nothing but good word of your products to the people I know. Thanks.
G3Red04WRX 03-15-2007 06:56 PM

Just wanted to update, yesterday I got a call back from a representative at prosportgauges.com concerning my bad EGT gauge. They called me early in the day, were very friendly and courteous, and got a replacement EGT probe sent out to me right away. VERY easy company to deal with regarding warranty issues. Hopefully it is just the sender which they are pretty sure is the problem from the description of my problem i explained to them, but if it is the gauge itself, they said it was going to be no problem to get a new one shipped out to me as soon as possible if the sensor itself doesnt fix the problem.

I know these arent the most expensive gauges out there, but i have to give Prosport an A for effort in taking care of their customers when their product fails to work properly. Its nice to know there are companies out there that stand behind their product and are happy to make things right without any arguing back and forth about it. Thanks Prosport!

any more info on this? Just installed the amber/white premium elc boost gague and it seems to be reading lower than it should. using datalogging software (enginuity and ecuexplorer) it shows I am getting upto 13-14lbs and the gauge is showing 10. also while in vacum datalogging software shows -10 and gauge shows -20+ also want to figure out if there is a way to disable the warning sound during opening ceremony as that is a little annoying.

With as many gauges as we are selling the reject rate is one of the lowest in the industry. Each gauge is tested before they ship but as all know the USPS & UPS are not the most gentle people and thus damage in shipping can occur.
