prosport gauges part 7

96accord 06-11-2007 12:17 PM

i like the way these prosport gauges look!

awesome price.. might pick up the premium Amber/White up when they get in stock...

any places have good deals on just the boost gauge?? i know they are already cheap enough but deals help out! :)
bzbuzz 06-11-2007 12:34 PM

I assume the metal filter ultimate CC is talking about is the vacuum restrictor. It has nothing to do with reading off zero when the car is off. I am pretty sure your gauge is defective like my Omori.
arco 06-11-2007 01:39 PM

that's my thought exactly. i like my gauge for the most part besides that point. is there something that i can do? if it is defective can i do something about it?

OK, a couple of things here.. The gauge is not defective. If anything the sender may not be giving the correct reading?? Most cars have residual vacuum in the line when the vehicle is off so -1 is perferctly normal. Second, where do you live at?? as altitude plays a role here...Third since you are NOT using the in-line filter the chance that something (dirt/debris/fluid) has entered into the sender and causing a different reading is another thing to consider.
All of our gauges (and senders) have a 1 year warranty and we will be happy to test it for you and fix/replace if needed. :)
arco 06-11-2007 03:18 PM

what about with the boost gauge unplugged? i live in Lakewood, CA 90712. ok, thanks. i'll look into that.

you sure?. it measures RELATIVE Pressure, not absolute pressure.
Meaning it measures the difference between what's in the engine and ambient pressure. Regardless of what altitude/elevation, or what the weather's doing, your gauge should always read 0 when your car is off.

I assume the gauge is using a diaphragm type sender that is calibrated to zero at the factor. Variation in supplied electricity or material changes due to temperature and shock probably cause some error.

It seems like the sender calibration is flawed or poorly controlled because the -1 to -3 psi reading has been reported by many including myself. I disagree that our cars hold vacuum when off. Too many places where air can escape. A vacuum could be seen as a hot engine cools off, but not after it's reached ambient temperature.
bruza12 06-11-2007 05:11 PM

I have a clock pod with three prosport gauges and I am wondering what 12V source you used? If I run the wires to the battery wire for the clock, the gauges will stay on after the car is off. Any pictures or links would be helpful. Thanks, bruza.

arco 06-11-2007 06:05 PM

an idea for the prosport site that would help out would be to have a pdf file or something available for wire functions. just a thought for when printed instructions from the box are unavailable.
Jasper 06-11-2007 06:53 PM

i just fried my second prosport EGT probe :furious:

i love these gauges, but wth. the gauge lists to 2400*F, i'd assume the probe is good for at least that (i have regular jaunts to 1750*F, god bless inconel valves)

gauge just started acting up today. pegs itself @ 2400*, and jumps back and forth between my real EGT, up to 1800-2400 and just bounces around.

they already sent me a replacement once. im not sure if they'll do it again.
Ultimate Collision Center 06-11-2007 08:07 PM

i see a lot of the egt probes going bad when installed improperly, meaning that the probes are bottoming out in the mani and it thus causes them to go bad over time...
SimonJ 06-11-2007 08:12 PM

There should be absolutely no reason why the gauge should read anything but zero when the engine is off.

Its relative pressure, not absolute, so weather or elevation has no bearing on what the needle is doing.

There's no "residual vacuum" in the engine - come on now. Its not a closed system. The system is free to equalize pressure via the intake duct thru the filter. Residual vacuum is BS.

I don't see anything but 0 when the engine is off via the Accessport, or on my DEFI gauges.

tip of the sensor is dead balls in the center of the manifold. i took great care in this, especially because i have heavily ported and wrapped manifolds (i wanted to keep a close eye on EGT's when i first ported them....and when i got the replacement sensor, seeing as it's the same piece, i set the brass ball in the same location, so the sensor's @ the same depth as before)

i just think they dont live too long in my car. my buddy has had the same issues in his swapped bugeye (v.7 ej207) with the sensor going wacky.
Ultimate Collision Center 06-11-2007 08:37 PM

hmm, i figured i would see as thats the only issue that i have dealt with thus far but you just never know, wish i had an answer to why your probes go bad...
Jasper 06-11-2007 08:38 PM

me too! i REALLY need to watch EGT's right now, as i've had one instance already where i hit 1900*F on a WOT 3rd gear pull (logging my timing advance and whatnot). tune isnt down 100% yet. i've got some weird issues up top w/ the MAF
JiveMasterT 06-11-2007 09:03 PM

Any pics of the 60mm premiums yet?

jsnuff1 06-14-2007 04:28 PM

Jsnuff- awesome setup. The colors are the slightest bit off, or it would be perfect.
JiveMasterT 06-14-2007 09:47 PM

Not bad. I wanna see those ambers... and preferably some amber during the day.
MindzeyeWRX02 06-14-2007 11:41 PM

[quote=wrx wolf;18350707]I installed EGT and Boost gauges in an Autometer bezel. They are wired to the clock. I think they look awesome and I'm constantly getting complemented. These are great, especially for the price!

My camera doesn't work well in the dark, but you get the idea. The gauges are a little bright at night and the pic shows the stock gauges at full brightness. After the first week, I barely notice anymore though.

Thats the exact same set-up that I'm thinking of. CLEAN!!

How well does the dual pod bezel fit into the dash?
jsnuff1 06-15-2007 12:49 AM

here are some amber shots... matches the sti cluster almost perfect.

Thanks! Actually, it fits perfectly. Although it's slightly darker than the stock bezel, but it's not really a big deal. I like it because of the clean look without gauges all over the place - sleeper-like.

Mine fit nearly as well as stock. You re-use the top 2 screws and they provide standoffs and screws to secure the bottom. It's solid. The material is not quite as nice as stock, but it seems sturdy enough.
JiveMasterT 06-15-2007 12:56 PM

Damn. That does look REALLY good. How visible are the 60mm gauges during the day in amber? Hard to read at all?

Thanks for the info. Yeah it looks a lot cleaner in the dash.

Now i see some 2 pod dash bezels on ebay. any info on those? or should i just go with autometer?

My personal preference is always name brand. I know the quality is usually better, and sometimes the cheap no-name molds have imperfections. It's probably overkill, but it's just my opinion.

Your opinion is appreciated. Just seems funny that the 2 prosport gauges will cost a little more then the bezel i'm putting into.

Just to give another fact. The ebay bezel is probably made in China or some other cheap labor location. Autometer bezels are made by Gaugeworks in Virginia. Nice guys there, it's worth supporting them. They spent a lot of time designing and making a nice product only to get it ripped off. I know for a fact the raw materials and labor to make that bezel is not very cheap.

Photoroller 06-19-2007 03:47 AM

You can use, say one peak gauge, with two normal gauges?

I want to run a peak boost, a regular EGT, and a regular oil pressure.

Also, has anyone painted their ATI dash pod? It looks like it is quite a ways off color wise. I am thinking of maybe black wrinkle painting it.
Prosport Gauges 06-19-2007 05:44 AM

You can mix and match, but keep in mind a couple of things. At night they will look the same. (color) but the bezel profile is different. the Premium ones are taller and gun metal in color, while preformance Series is more of a low profile silver bezel. Also they get wired slightly different. Mainly the red wire.
Photoroller 06-19-2007 02:59 PM

Ahh, I didn't know the profile was different. Looks like I'm going to be getting all three normal then. I don't have the cash all peaks.

Andddd, the picture with the amber prosports above with the navi unit?

Which pod is that? Defi or ATI.
GuestBrowser 06-19-2007 03:23 PM

curious, what EGT probe do you guys use in your gauges? (i installed the new (replacement) you guys sent me ~ a month ago. its already dead (needles jumping all over the place, either sits @ 0, or 2400+). the tip of the probe is dead center in the middle of the exhaust runner, so i'm positive it was not bottomed out on anything. or are these particular probes more prone to fail @ higher EGT's (i regularly see 1700*F, and i have seen ~ 1980*F on a 3rd gear pull to test the new MAF scaling)
Prosport Gauges 06-19-2007 04:42 PM

The EGT probes should work fine up & Inc. 2400F. So, that is not an issue. It is hard to say what has happened in your case with looking at the probe etc..
It is unfortunate that the one you have has failed. But Rest assure we stand behind our products and will replace if it is in fact defective.
