If someone gets it PLEASE give us feedback! Forgot to mention it's 266mb 512x384 divx format. So i'm guessing it's about a half hour long and should be decent quality.

http://rally.stanis.info/
The 12th one down.
Now here is the catch. I have know idea what language is it. Looks like the site is either polish or czech I hope that the preview will be english. How did I fund it? Google does magic if you learn how to use it ;) I couldn't download it yet because I managed to get banned from the site for 27363 seconds for downloading too often. All I did was clicked on the link and let media player start play it, then I canceled it and tried to save it. But I'm back there again dl-ing it :) via proxy so screw them I'm getting it anyways whether they like it or not.
So all you need to do is go there browse down to 12th, right click, save as, then wait until it's finished. Please guys don't kill they bandwith! It would be nice if somone could host it.
crap my comp freezed while downloading it and i had to close the download. I have to wait for over 7 hrs to download it now -_- Im on an oc3 connection so i was getting it at around 1Mb/sec too :(
Does anyone have a high speed proxy list?
Way to go Chris. A little disappointed w/ Solbergs result, it sucks they picked the wrong tires. A least Loeb will have no points either though
Not likely. Unless Leob doesn't start tommorow, he will only gain a 5 minute penalty for not completing the last stage, and will start a bit under 4 mins back from gronholm's time, and be in 8th place. If his car is fixed and he starts tommorow, im guessing he will probably crawl back onto the podium.

I agree.... better to get few points than none and we all seen that Loeb is capable of doing something like that.

The WRC+ coverage is really bad this year. It looks like they are only giving you one 60second round up that just ends randomly and 3 15 sec interviews. Gronholms interview wasn't even in English. Total rip off now. Stay far away.
| psg | 01-20-2006 10:09 PM |
At the end of day one, Atkinson is in P2, some 1m23s behind Gronholm. Quite ironic, because Atkinson was not expected to perform up to this caliber for this rally, is not nominated to receive manufacturer points for Subaru, and is in the 2005-spec Impreza. Sarrazin is running in 7th, and is the last driver left nominated for manufacturer points for Subaru. Solberg is out after terminal engine failure shortly after the completion of stage 6.
Oh yeah, and Loeb crashed out. He had built up a substantial lead, but went off during a slippery section on stage 6. That's Monte Carlo for you.
Perhaps someone could start a private FTP for NASIOC members to share the WRC coverage?

But soon after disaster struck when Solberg's engine developed an oil leak on the road section back to service. Forty seven kilometres from his destination his car came to a halt and he retired. If someone on a fast connection willing to host it I will upload it! but i'm on a slow cable with 20k up speed.
The video is a good quality tv rip from EuroSport 25:53 min long and it's english.
I like how they start the video by remembering Richard Burns.
Do you actualy believe that? Maybe they just don't advertise lately in the U.S. as much as Subaru does. They been selling the lancer here since what 2001? the evo only came here in 2003 if I'm not mistakeing and it was the 9th generation. They only sell maybe 5 or 6 models here and probably 10-12 in Europe, Asia, Australia, so where do you think there is a bigger market for them? They have won the wrc title with Tomi Makinen 4 times in the row I don't even know how many times they won the manufacturers title. Not to mention Dakar where they were dominating the rally for years. So when you say they never saw the power of rally.... it makes me laugh....
Perhaps I should have made it clearer that I was talking about MMSA (Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America), not MMC. I've been following rally for nearly 30 years.. I know all about Mitsu, their success in the late '90s, and the long history of Evos.. hell, I bought my Evo 8 on the first day they were available. But MMSA's support and promotion of rally - domestically - has been pretty poor. SOA (i.e. Subaru of America) have been supporting domestic rally for years, and even when they pulled out as ProRally title sponsor, they continued (and continue) to support the sport with their parts and contingency programs. MMSA ran a two-car team, won the championship and pulled out completely (leaving a lot of people in the lurch as I recall). The word on the street (dirt?) was that they actually had quite a history of burning people who had helped them promote their brand, especially through rally.
What's the result? US rally - at all levels - is dominated by Subaru. I was at a rallycross (US style) a few weeks ago, and when one of two Evos was doing their run, some kid next to me says "That's not a rally car.. that's a street racer. Now the STis, those are rally cars.. the BMW [there was a lone 320ix], that's a rally car..". I resisted the temptation to ask him how many WRC championships BMW had won (?!) but it shows what a terrible job MMSA have done of promoting their brand's extensive rally heritage, if those kind of kids - who are enthusiastic enough to stand out in the cold for hours watching amateurs powersliding around cones - have that kind of opinion.
Meanwhile, SOA's continued support of my favourite motorsport improves my opinion of their brand. When I was looking for a new car to replace our Audi A4, I didn't even bother looking at anything Mitsu had to offer - we bought a Legacy GT Ltd wagon. Don't get me wrong.. I love my Evo and I'll even be rallycrossing it this year now I have mudflaps :) but it's a case of "love the car not the company", whereas with the Legacy I've been seriously impressed with the amount of follow-up from SOA - the magazines, the 'virtual garage' program, the warranty service, etc.
Sorry for the long post. As an Evo owner, I have to say the last thing I expected when I joined NASIOC was a post defending Mitsubishi :D
Meanwhile.. where are the Monte torrents? Arrgh. I wonder if the legal eagles got to tibbet, or if the supposed lack of US rally fans brought the server down...

Loeb wins all stages; Gronholm leads
By Tim Redmayne January 21st 2006, 17:27 GMT
Sebastien Loeb demonstrated he has lost none of his championship-winning pace in the Monte Carlo Rally, winning every stage of the second leg to vault up the leader board into fourth.
The Frenchman began the day in eighth after restarting the event under super-rally regulations with a five-minute penalty, thanks to his crash in SS6 yesterday.
Loeb's Kronos-run Citroen Xsara was not badly damaged in the accident, and he demonstrated why he has won the last three Monte Carlo Rallies by winning all five of today's stages to put himself within touching distance of a podium position.
There should have been six stages today, but SS11, the 18.73 km stage from La Tour sur Tinee to Utelle, became the second stage of the rally to be cancelled following traffic congestion.
SS3 was cancelled yesterday after traffic blocked most competitors getting through morning stages.
Loeb's chances of victory in the event are slim, because he is still 2 minutes and 40 seconds behind rally leader Marcus Gronholm.
However, second place is well within the Frenchman's grasp, having more than halved the gap to second place, from one minute and 20 seconds to little over 35 seconds.
Gronholm continued to be on the pace in his first run in the new Ford Focus and now holds a comfortable 2:11 advantage over Toni Gardemeister.
The double world champion now has to safely negotiate six stages in tomorrow's third leg, or just 116.60km, before he can claim his first Monte Carlo Rally victory.
Gardemeister, in a privateer Peugeot, has been involved in a superb battle with Manufacturer 2 OMV Peugeot driver Manfred Stohl.
Gardemeister held the position for the morning's first two stages but Austrian Stohl got past thanks to a strong performance on SS9.
However, Gardemeister has ended the day in second, having been the fastest driver other than Loeb on the final stage of the day, the first running of the famous Col de Turini.
Stephane Sarrazin looks set to salvage something from the weekend for Subaru, after their lead driver Petter Solberg retired form the event last night with an oil leak.
Sarrazin rests in fifth, with more than a minute and a half's advantage over third Subaru driver Chris Atkinson.
Reigning Junior World Rally Champion Danni Sordo ended the day in seventh as he looks to score points on his first event in WRC machinery, driving a third Kronos Racing Citroen Xsara.
Sordo's Leg Two highlight was the second fastest time on SS10, 18.6 seconds slower than teammate Loeb.
Henning Solberg, brother of Petter, had a nightmare day in the OMV Peugeot. He started the day in 12th but was the only leading runner who opted for studded winter tyres, whereas the rest of the pack opted for slicks on the drier stages. He ended the day in 16th.
Privateer Mitsubishi runner Gigi Galli restarted the day under super-rally regulations following his crash two kilometers into SS4, but the Italian retired from the leg after SS8 with gearbox problems.
Leader board after Leg Two:
Pos Driver Make Time
1. Gronholm Ford 2h 36:10.2
2. Gardemeister Peugeot + 2:05.9
3. Stohl Peugeot + 2:08.8
4. Loeb Citroen + 2:41.6
5. Sarrazin Subaru + 3:03.4
6. Atkinson Subaru + 4:42.8

Loeb takes SS13 by 3.5s over Gronholm.
Gardemeister takes SS14 by 5.2s over Loeb. Atkinson/Sarazzin finish 3rd and 4th respectively on the stage.
Loeb takes SS15 by 9.5s over Gardemeister. Atkinson/Sarazzin retain thier positions. Gronholm drops almost half a minute off of his lead, but still has 1:45 on second place Gardemeister with three stages to go.

SS16 - Loeb over Gardemeister by 2.3s
SS17 - Stohl stole the show (hyuck hyuck) with a good tire choice, winning the stage and making up a bunch of time on Loeb. Still a minute back from a podium finish though.
SS18 - Gronholm cruises to victory, Loeb took second on the stage on studded winter tires  and moved ahead of Gardemeister into second place.
Sarazzin and Atkinson finish 5th and 6th... overall a very good drive for both of them.
It's confirmed, Loeb is still going to rock the series this year even in a 'privateer' car. What a drive...

from rally-live:
Marcus Gronholm won his 19th career win by taking the victory at the 2006 Monte Carlo Rally, his first at the Principality. A well-deserved win for the Finn in his first race at the wheel of the Ford Focus WRC 06.
With Gronholm the winner of the race and his teammate Mikko Hirvonen in seventh position, Ford takes the lead of the Manufacturers' Championship.
Sebastien Loeb who led the first part of the race until going off the road made a great charge through the field to finish in second place, moving ahead of Toni Gardemeister in the very last stage.
Gardemeister drove a consistent race and gets a very good result for his first race with the Peugeot 307.
OMV Peugeot Norway driver Manfred Stohl set the pace in the last two stages of the race and finishes the event at a fine fourth position. A very good season start for the Austrian who secures six points in the Drivers' Championship.
Subaru drivers Stephane Sarrazin and Chris Atkinson follow in fifth and sixth places respectively:D The Frenchman brings five points to his team in the Manufacturers' Championship.
The top ten in the Monte Carlo Rally is completed by Dani Sordo (8th), Xavier Pons (9th) and Gilles Panizzi (10th).

Gronholm cruises to first Monte win
By Tim Redmayne January 22nd 2006, 13:16 GMT
Marcus Gronholm has won the Rally Monte Carlo for the first time, after he cruised home over this morning's final three stages.
Having started the final leg with a comfortable lead of two minutes and five seconds, Gronholm eased himself to the finish, winning with a margin of just over one minute.
This is the double world champion's first victory in the prestigious event and his first since last August's Rally of Finland.
Incredibly, it is also the Finn's first win on an asphalt rally, and his first WRC victory in a car that is not a Peugeot.
Gronholm won 18 rallies and two world titles for the French manufacturer in his seven seasons with the team.
The victory also marks a return to the top step of the podium for Ford, with the Blue Oval's first WRC triumph in 18 rallies. Markko Martin won the last event for the team, at the 2004 Catalunya Rally.
"I was not pushing at all today," Gronholm said. "I had a vibration in the car and some smoke inside and I was really afraid we might not finish at one point. This is a fantastic result and it was very difficult rally."
Sebastien Loeb eventually finished second, after a titanic scrap with Toni Gardemeister throughout the final day.
Loeb went into the final stage, the third running of the famous Col de Turini, just 6.2 seconds behind Gardemeister. However, Loeb was 27.5 seconds quicker than the Finn over SS18 and snatched the position in the end.
"I had no information in the stage on him other than I was six seconds behind," Loeb said. "I pushed hard, but this morning he has driven very well."
It was a remarkable comeback for Loeb, who has the super-rally regulations to thank for his podium finish.
Loeb won nine of the 16 stages run on the Monte Carlo Rally, but in previous years, he would have been forced to retire if he had gone off the road like he did on SS6.
Thanks to rules introduced last year, however, Loeb was allowed to restart with a five-minute penalty for every stage he missed.
Because the damage to Loeb's Citroen Xsara was small and the accident occurred on the final stage of the day, the Frenchman was able to claw back most of that five-minute defect and finish second.
Gardemeister, without a regular drive this season, drove superbly on the final day. He won SS14, the 14.45 km stage from Col St Roch to Lantosque, and was inside the top five drivers on five of the day's six stages.
"Loeb was extremely quick with these kind of studded tyres," Gardemeister said. "He was pushing like hell, I think. [Third] was an OK result though, yes? We had tried to keep Loeb behind, but he was quick. He was very quick, actually."
Privateer Manfred Stohl finished fourth after taking a huge gamble on the final loop of stages by being the only one of the top four to run on slick tyres. Gronholm, Loeb and Gardemeister chose studded winter tyres.
The gamble nearly paid off. Stohl won the day's final two stages, closing to within 19.2 seconds of Gardemeister, having been more than a minute and 20 seconds behind with two tests to run.
"The slick was the right tyre but we chose too soft a compound," Stohl said. "We had a puncture and were on mouse on one of the tyres at the back. In the last kilometre, there was no tyre at all anymore."
The Subaru pair of Stephane Sarrazin and Chris Atkinson remained in their overnight fifth and sixth positions at the finish, but both had continued to push throughout the final day.
"I'm very happy," Sarrazin said. "We had a very difficult start on Friday, and it was very tough for me on the snow, but I learnt a lot on this rally. A top five is a good position for me to finish in."
Atkinson put in his best stage performance of his debut Monte Carlo Rally, with the third fastest time on SS14.
"It's an amazing result," Atkinson said. "We never expected this and I have to thank the entire team for such a good team effort. We didn't get any points last year until New Zealand, so to start the season with a few points is great. I'm looking forward to Sweden now."
Gronholm's Ford teammate Mikko Hirvonen moved into the points-paying positions in seventh on the final day, benefiting from bad luck to befall Red Bull Skoda driver Gilles Panizzi.
Panizzi, who was running as high as second on Friday, touched the side of a rock on the first corner of SS13, breaking the front left wheel.
He fought back in SS14 to retake the position from Hirvonen, however the Finn got the upper hand back in SS15, when Panizzi dropped down the classification after spinning and hitting a rock that tore the left-rear wheel from the car.
Panizzi completed the stage on three wheels, but the delay cost the Skoda driver three minutes through the stage, and he later incurred a penalty when he checked in two minutes late at the time control on the entry to service.
Panizzi eventually finished 10th with Dani Sordo taking the final point in eighth.
British rookie Matthew Wilson finished the event in 15th despite going off the road after the flying finish of SS14 and damaging the bodywork of his Ford Focus.
Final results (top 15):

I'm happy Gronholm won, after a stressful 2005 season he deserves it.
Im also glad Sarrazin and Atkinson took 5th and 6th. Not the best start for Subaru, but still some points.
My prediction for Sweden: A tight battle between Gronholm and Solberg (if all goes well for him).

Loeb re-entered Day 2, why not Solberg?

Loeb and Solberg both retired on day one. Loeb with an offcourse and Solberg with an oil problem. Did subaru fix his problem and what what is exactly because i dont think that he re-entered with penalty on day 2. Anyone have any updates?
On a side note, Atkinson looks really good this year. Hopefully he steps up to the plate and makes a bigger name for himself in rally.

Bittersweet rally for Subaru. Atkinson was sitting pretty in 2nd at the end of day one, but quickly dropped back to 6th after day 2. Still a solid finish. Sarrazin was solid as well, though didn't do anything too spectacular. He accomplished his task by nabbing 5 manufacturer points for Subaru.
Solberg had a poor start, which was compounded by the engine failure at the end of day two. This is one of those "twinned" rallies, where they reuse the engine and chassis, or gearbox for the next rally later in the year (Sweden in this case); I'm sure that's why Solberg retired outright. By retiring, he most likely gets a fresh engine and chassis for Sweden.

As I said before, I really REALLY have a problem with someone scoring points when they FAILED to complete all the stages.
Not taking away from Loeb's brilliant drive but he was off the road and did not complete the rally.
How on earth FIA thinks that is ok is beyond me........

I think its quite cool that Malcom Wilsons son is participating with a last year spec car!
I wish I had a dad like that hehe.
Being a focus guy (well ... just cause I own one now... I still think they are crap overall) I have to say that the 06 spec Ford is... BAD ASS looking, best looking car in the series this year... they need to remove that pig snout off the Subaru. Atkinson's subaru looked much better (05 spec :))

You obviously don't understand it.
Briefly. If you are unable to finish a stage (let say you ran off the road or roll over) you can continue NEXT day only if your team can fix your car in a short amount of time. I could be wrong but I belive it is 2 or 2 and a half hours which is very very short. Don't forget the number of mechanics are limited too. Then you can re enter the rally with 5 minutes penalty for each stage you couldn't complete.
So if you had 4 left to go it's 20 minutes. In Loeb's case at the Monte it was the last stage. So he only got 5 minutes. But don't forget 5 minutes is HUGE. just check the time difference between the drivers on stages and think about how hard is it to crawl back to the position that you held before. SO what he did was unbelivable, brilliant and almost impossible. He is a great driver and I really wish that he will collect his 3rd title this year and the next in 07 and so on.
If you still remember at the roc ( race of champions ) in 2004 double world rally champion Marcus Gronholm took a huge beating from Loeb in his own peugeot 307. Marcus at the time been driving for Peugeot for the 6th year as they #1 wrc driver and it was Loebs first time driving the 307 wrc.

it was a remarkable race. Seeing Loeb come back to life like that was amazing.
I know the ruless, but still have a hard time agreeing with the "you can come back to the race even though you didn't complete that stage" rule.
Weird seeing BFG as the tires for the old Michelin guys. Looks like the sister company pretty much just gave them the real mich. tires.
coverage on Eurosport was as usual very good.
Damn those were some tough ever-changing conditions. Snow, ice, slush followed by dry, then start over again.
Kudos to Loeb...guy isn't human.
Hope Solberg pulls in well in Sweden.

Sounds like a really exciting rally! Reading about it is great, but I'm sorry, as much as literature can be way more exciting than the equivalent "movie made from a novel" it just doesn't compare to watching these guys race.
I miss the TV coverage on Speed for sure, but thanks to everybody's postings of pics, accounts, etc.

Subaru boss: Atkinson ready to win
By Tim Redmayne January 23rd 2006, 12:50 GMT
Subaru performance director David Lapworth believes that Chris Atkinson will be fighting for overall victories this season, following the Australian's performance in last weekend's Monte Carlo Rally.
Atkinson finished sixth in his first attempt at the prestigious event and was as high as second after impressing in the first leg.
Lapworth is backing Atkinson to use his experience in the rest of this season's events to be able to fight teammate Petter Solberg, Ford's Marcus Gronholm and Kronos Racing's Sebastien Loeb for overall victories.
"To finish in the top six in his first Monte Carlo is a major achievement and he's done it at a very respectable pace," Lapworth said. "The hardest thing for a driver with Chris's talent is to drive with sufficient caution to not be caught out by the treacherous conditions.
"He drove a very mature rally. He starts every other rally this year with prior experience and if he can combine this level of control with the speed that he showed last year it won't be long before he's fighting for rally wins."

I would have to say, I hate Superally even more after this event. Not that I don't like to see Loeb up there, but it goes against the entire idea of what a rally is.
I really like what Gardemiester and Red Bull Skoda did, great work. I really, really like the now FocusWRC2006. I'm glad to see Gronholm happy.

Speed news had a little blurb about the rally, and when they mentioned Loebs off they didn't even show the right ****ing clip.

I wish I could cancel Speed, but it's included in some asstarded package that includes a lot of channels I want to keep (like BBC America.)
Oh, and I have to pay even MORE if I want OLN
Thank god for the Internet!
