Rally Monte Carlo has no actual Monte Carlos! (official thread, talk about it here)

With only 3 major drivers (Loeb, Solberg, Gronholm) and only 2 manufacturers (Subaru, Ford) and no TV coverage, it's gonna be a tough season for rally fans :(
But, I'm still gonna follow it!
GO PETTER!

I haven't been a rally fan very long(only for 3 years now). I am starting to lose interest in WRC already. Fewer top drivers and fewer manufacturers isn't going to keep my attention. I am just a casual fan, but they risk losing me if they don't fix this mess soon. I am going to follow the US rally series closely, I really like how its growing. WRC is falling fast.
Go Petter, but more competition is needed.

So it's confirmed that Speed is not covering WRC this season?
Do you know anything about Eurosport across sea's? I used to download the Eurosport coverage because I thought it was better than Speed.

I just checked Eurosport's website, and they have nothing listed for WRC :(

I signed up for WRC+. May be the only way to get anything this year :(
Its only about $3.50 (1.99GBP) for the first month, but then its 40GBP (~$70) per year. Seems steep. I'll have to see how good the service is during this event.

With the new rule barring active diffs, I think Loeb is gonna be slower. Maybe we'll have a real fight this time.

Seems like it's going to be an interesting year in the history of rally that's for sure ..... it would be hard to say whos going to benefit from the less competition I'm guessing it will be Petter Solberg... unless Gronholm finds his "rythm" with the Focus
.... might not be in Monaco but on the long run I'm expecting Petter Solberg to get his second WRC title....
Sebastian Loeb is a great driver ( I'm sure he will do everything and a lot more ) but it is a lot of money and effort to do a WRC event ( not to mention 16 ) with out the factory backing it up. It will be extremly hard.
Both Subaru and Ford are launching they new cars. I think Petter Solberg has more advantage over Marcus Gronholm whos not only be driving a completly new car ( was built in a very short time and of course it is always harder for the mechanics to work and solve problems on a newly designed car than on the last 2004 model, not to mention that the car was only a concept car little less than a year ago, so there was definetley less time available for testing than at Subaru) but the Ford and Ford Team will be new to him as well. BTW good eyes from Malcolm Wilson ( long time team boss at Ford ) for spotting Mikko Hirvonen who did amazingly great times last year in Italy with a privately entered Focus Wrc 'til he had to retire. Not sure but I belive he had a stage win too. But for sure he was second overall when he retired. I gues they didn't se this in him at Swrt.
As far as the other teams:
Red Bull Skoda
I'm sure everyone knows Red Bull as an energy drink.... they been sponsoring lot of major motor sport events all around the world plus they are in the F1. As far as the car, well it's not the strongest in the WRC but it is very reliable and Armin Schwarz drove it for a while.
OMV Peugeot
Well, Omv is a huge oil company like Mobil so they got dough ;) but we all know how "reliable" is the 307 (I never understood why they had to change the 206) anyways, it was a great battle for the factory service team to maintain the Peugeot, let see how the Omv will keep it going.
Too bad that Skoda/Colin Mcrae/ Nicky Grist thingy didn't work out. I hope it will be a reality some day, not just a rumor .
I'm sure it will be a great and interesting season with lots of drama and desperation and more great driving than probably ever.
As long as EuroSport coverage.... I wouldn't worry about that. Just think about how many events are taking place in Europe. They have to cover it! Once they aired it we will be able to get it :) one way or the other......
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE DRIVERS/CO-DRIVERS/TEAMS!!!!
Ps: I hope there will be no tragedy this year! R.I.P. Michael Park

I think there should be a thread started if anybody finds torrents of coverage for the rallies. I'm very disappointed that there won't be coverage, though with the complete lack of teams I'm not surprised. I do make a point to try and support brands which sponsor motorsports I watch. Anything to try and help out the sponsors.
Any details on the coveragE? 30 mins per day?
I haven't seen it listed on their website schedule as of today, but in the past it was ~24 minutes of daily coverage (preview, day 1/2/3), or 30 minutes with a commercial break. Then they would compile a review show sometime after the event's completion that was 1 hour long. I'm going to assume it will be similar, if not the same this year.
I've never been shook up about Speed Channel potentially dropping WRC, because the torrents are released the same day that they are aired, and I would always have all three days' coverage on my harddrive before it would air on Sunday evening on Speed. The only real benefit to watching it on Speed was the picture quality. Now if Eurosport didn't air WRC, there would be no torrents, and then I'd be in trouble.

^^^ true I personly like the EuroSport covereage better than the Speed Chanels.
Wagon Monster stop being so paranoid there is no such a thing that EuroSport won't air the WRC events. It would be like no nascar on speed. Rally is a European sport and is far more popular over there than even nascar here. ( I want to see cities closed down in the U.S. and traffic detours because it is rally weekend or nascar in this case).

Wagonmaster has a point though, I don't know of any cable networks in the states that carry Eurosport. That's why I said that it looks like it'll be a torrent filled season again.
I think the others are just happy that SOME network out there picked up WRC, so at least it'll be on TV somewhere. I'm sure torrents of the caps are frowned upon here though.
