Silverstone predictions.... part 1

Fred Zaplitny 07-08-2001 01:43 AM

Silverstone predictions....

I will start the thread this week.

I predict.......

Are you ready for this.......

MONTOYA WILL WIN!!!! Oh yeah baby, this IS the week he finally takes one! :D

The total points pediction:

1. Montoya
2. John Felstead
3. Eddie Irvine (just a hunch)
4. Micheal
5. DC
6. JV

Ralf will crash, Ruebens will be involved. Or maybe Ralf will be second since John isn't really an F1 driver....yet!

Don't forget to post pics of babes!
gtguy 07-08-2001 01:21 PM

Michael
Ralf
DC
Montoya
Barrichello
Raikkonen

Sorry, but if the last two Ferrari wins haven't convinced anyone that barring a fluke, this championship is over, I don't know what will. It might be Ralf's year next year though, with Montoya nipping at his heels.

Ferrari and McLaren (especially the latter) seem to be nearing the ends of their development cycles, similar to what happened to Williams before their downward spiral. Now Williams is on the way up. Should be a good season next year, too. I just hope we can see it on TV somewhere. :(

Kevin
Fred Zaplitny 07-08-2001 10:10 PM

Unfortunately, I agree with you. The championship is over already, I don't even care about that at this point. To hope Micheal will tank it the rest of the year and DC or anybody could catch him is futile. I just want to see JPM win one.
Arioch 07-08-2001 11:34 PM

i gotta do it...

1) dc
2) kimi (come on! show everyone that you're better than that chili-dog eating loud mouth!!!)
3) schuey sr.
4) ralf
5) jacques
6) heidfeld

big day for sauber. mika will fail to start again, making him decide to retire. mclaren grabs kimi for next year.

as much as i hate to say it, i think that ms will win again this year... too bad... dc was having a great begining of a season.... :(

-dave
Dane 07-08-2001 11:37 PM

Are you kidding?......Mike, of course
donjuan 07-09-2001 08:05 AM

I'm gonna go out on a limb this week

1. Ralf Schumacher
2. Juan Pablo Montoya
3. Jacques Villeneuve
4. Michael Schumacher
5. Jos Verstappen
6. Kimi Raikkonen

John Felstead is a last minute replacement for a Minardi monkey and puts up a respectable 12th :D

I have no idea why I made the above picks. I would really like to see Williams take the #2 spot in constructor's points though.

You guys think Hakkinen is gonna call it quits?? I've read if he does they're thinking DC and Panis.
J Colman 07-09-2001 11:07 AM

Hakkinnen wont retire yet, he has something to prove, this season sucked for him, but he will be back.

I have to go with the following picks:

1) Mika Hakkinnen
2) Michael Schumacher
3) Rubens Barichello
4) Ralf Schumacher
5) DC
6) Juan Pablo Montoya

Justin
donjuan 07-09-2001 11:09 AM

who's this J Colman guy??

have a good trip?
J Colman 07-09-2001 11:37 AM

Hey Donjuan,
Yeah I had an awesome time, I was actually in your neck of the woods for a few hours, we had a lay-over in St.Louis. Maui ruled, I saw 1 WRX and 1 RS and tons of other good stuff. Too bad I missed both the European and French Gp's, but Schumi did me proud while I was gone.

<marquee> I would be

:( if I wasn't a Schumi fan</marquee>

Justin
donjuan 07-09-2001 11:44 AM

Cool

Good to hear you had a good time. My parents went to Maui this past spring. I've never been myself, but I hear it's just awesome. Probably worth missing a couple races I'd wager.

I'm guessing you were flying TWA since you hit STL?? We've got some pretty nice new 767's on the STL-OGG flight.

The plane wasn't painted with the new "TWA, an American Airlines company" paintjob yet was it??
J Colman 07-09-2001 12:49 PM

Yeah, we were on TWA, but I am not sure if it was any of the new planes. We had one that seemed pretty new and it had TransWorld Airlines written on the side, wasn't the same as the older planes, so maybe that was the new design.
johnfelstead 07-09-2001 06:38 PM

Get that monkey off my back

I had a meeting with Paul Stoddard yesterday whilst at Goodwood about the British Grand Prix Seat.

I have a slight problem in that i am driving round Rockingham on Saturday so can't make it for qualifying.

After some deep thinking for a good 3 seconds we decided there is a loophole in the rules. Whats going to happen is for qualifying one of the regular monkeys will drive, guaranteeing me a quality 22nd grid slot, i can work with that. :D

On finishing my day at Rockingham (i am testing tires for chip the pimp, scoop coming shortly folks) i am being flown to the F1 padock club for evening hob nobbing and the oficial press launch of my F1 career.

OK, the loophole. It states in the rules that the car must be qualified by the driver that starts the race in the car that was qualified. It does not state anything about having an aditional driver in the car. So whats going to happen is one of the monkeys will qualify the car below, then come the race i'll be in the front seat with the monkey strapped behind me for the duration. The rules allow it.

Look out for me Sunday in this.

We got our inspiration for this from a meeting with Sir Stirling Moss when he reminded us of his winning tactics with Jenks in the mille miglia race. It was worth the trip to goodwood. :D

I predict it will rain and DC will spin out, michael will win, ralph second, me third, chilli dog fourth, irvine fifth, panis sixth.

keep this under your hat, we dont want Jean Todt protesting us until after we have made our point (or 4). :D
Fred Zaplitny 07-09-2001 11:01 PM

Tire testing for the pimp huh?

He must be thinking of getting rid of Bruno. That loser hasn't podiumed in a while, so out he goes!!

Try using the rear seat ejector button on the second lap to lose the monkey. Make sure you're right in front of Micheal so the monkey hits him square in the face! You may want to look into having some oil slick buttons and front machine guns mounted for the race as well. I believe they are legal on Minardi's :D

Welcome back Justin.
J Colman 07-10-2001 09:50 AM

Thanks,
I thought Arrows were the only team allowed to have that type of stuff on their cars :p
donjuan 07-10-2001 09:54 AM

weapons...

Wasn't it Trulli that also had some kind of gunsight on his car at Monaco??

That would be interesting...all the cars equipped with different weapons, like a video game or something.

"Schumacher turns in, and oh!, what's this??, yes he's been taken out by Burti's homing missile...that will seriously affect his chances..."
SpinAll4 07-10-2001 10:23 AM

Schumi Again. Little Ralf that is.

Ralf will put it all together for this race. His big brother will be doggin' him the whole way until near the end where his Ferrari will suffer a rare mechanical problem. Mikeys demise will be Juan DoggoMoChili's gain, as well as Davey Coolturd's.

Ralfie
JPM
DC
Rubens
KIMI
Heidfeld

Mika will start just fine from fourth position but get tapped at the first turn, spinning him around. His anger causes him to drive the course in the wrong direction- looking to plow his car headlong into the field as they approach with a closure speed of 400 mph. But, his cursed Mercedes engine will seize up and lock the rear wheels in time to slow his car down enough so the other 21 cars can easily avoid him. 13 drivers will manage to flip him off in the process.
donjuan 07-10-2001 10:31 AM

bad wishes

I would really hate to wish bad luck on Schumi, but it would make the season far more interesting if he'd DNF a couple times instead of just running away with it like he is. But aside from that happening, what i'm following from here on out is the race for 2nd in both drivers and constructors points. DC is working on his patented choke. I think Ralf has at least one more win in him this year, so I'm hoping for a Shumacher 1-2 in the final points. Unless Hakkinen makes some kind of charge, I think Williams can bump McLaren out of #2 now that they're being a bit more consistent. JPM's head seems to be returning to normal human size, so I think they can pull it off.

GO WILLIAMS!
J Colman 07-10-2001 11:11 AM

This could be DC's best choke to date. He had Schumi right where he wanted him and then.......aaaargggh....blechhhhh....choke.....choke....choke

Oh well

Justin
donjuan 07-10-2001 11:17 AM

Now give DC a break, it's gotta be hard to drive a Formula 1 car with your hands around your throat and your jaw flapping most of the time....
J Colman 07-10-2001 11:20 AM

Sorry,

Dennis needs to give him a heimlich

Justin
johnfelstead 07-10-2001 01:55 PM

I have a theory on DC.

He can only drive whilst he is mid girlfriends.

I saw him with his new misses at Goodwood on Sunday so he is gonna spin out, just you watch. :D:lol:
J Colman 07-10-2001 02:12 PM

So he ditched the one that was in the plane crash with him? Sounds like a nice guy.

Justin
donjuan 07-10-2001 02:16 PM

I remember reading that he ditched one or another so he could "concentrate on winning the championship." I guess this would mean he isn't planning on winning it anymore :D

David Chokehard
J Colman 07-10-2001 02:23 PM

Yeah, I think I read that too. Sounds like he just wanted out of the relationship to me. I guess it's just part of the F1 lifestyle, what can you do?

I wonder if it was a chilidog that DC choked on?

Justin
donjuan 07-10-2001 02:25 PM

Justin you should check out the Europe and French GP threads on the board. In one of them Dave made a JPM flag that had a picture and "chili-dog" on it. We want to try to have them made up to wave at the USGP....
ZFEVER 07-10-2001 02:25 PM

Here's how I see it:

JUAN
MIKE
RALPH
MIKA
KIMI
DC
JOS

Mika will put a brutal pass move on DC somewhere in the middle of the race that will make them look like anything but teammates.
J Colman 07-10-2001 02:26 PM

I'll search for them, sounds hilarious, I hope I can make it to the GP. We should all meet up and hang out, I know a couple locals from here are going.

Justin :)
J Colman 07-10-2001 02:41 PM

Without a doubt one of the funniest things I have seen on here, that was classic, so sorry I missed it when it first came out. I am just glad that "Grap on my tired" is still floating around. I will definately have to try and dig that one up again.

Justin

John, did you ever get the prototype Chili-dog flag for Silverstone?, I want to see it spread across the crowd like the big Scuderia flag they always have at Monza
Arioch 07-10-2001 02:43 PM

it's nice to see people appreciate my "art" like that!

i almost forgot about those flags.....

-dave (who is going to kill all of you for talking about dc that way... even if he has been choking lately..... :( )
How to Avoid Choking

Even Michael Jordan makes mistakes. No matter how good an athlete is, "choking" is inevitable. The difference is that the pros have trained both mentally and physically to reduce its likelihood and to recover from it. Sports psychologist Robin Vealey of Miami University of Ohio and Daniel Gould of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro offer some tips:

FOCUS

Choking often occurs when your thoughts are on the past or the future. Focus on the present, and be conscious of your emotional and physical reactions to a stressful situation.

Practice

Practice in stressful situations in order to get used to physical and mental tension. Mental and muscle memory interact, and you can train them together to create conditioned responses to tense circumstances.

Relax

Stress makes your mind hurry and your muscles tense up. Use breathing techniques to relax, and consciously loosen tight muscle groups.

Talk to Yourself

Self-talk can calm, remotivate and remind you of your best technique. Use a "mantra with meaning" - for example, an ultimate player can remind herself to have "quick feet" so she is moving and ready. And don't obsess over a mistake; instead replace a negative mental image of yourself with a positive one to bring you back into the game.

Know Yourself and Your Environment

Perceived pressure from teammates, coaches, and yourself can cause you to freeze up. Remember: it's just a game. Pick the challenged and competitions you think you can handle.
!!

That's funny. Does DC have a website?? Somebody needs to email that to him....
SCRAPPYDO 07-10-2001 03:27 PM

In a never seen before act of madness the Jordans and BAR's will sweep qualifying after placing a large Type R badge on their cars. The new found power was enough to eclipse the field by 3 seconds a lap!

Not intimidated by Honda's new found dominance, Ferrari prepares a Dragon Breath exhaust modification to give their cars a 4 foot long "tounge" of flame behind the car. This added thrust experienced during shifts should make up for the millisecond of time in between gears. This coupled with a little Calvin pissing on a link of Brautwurst to take care of the Mercedes should put Micheal and Rubbins back in the lead shortly after the first lap.

Not to be out done, those darn ingenious Germans at BMW, saw what was going on around them and noticed the obvious peril they were in due to these new cutting edge modifications by the upstarts Jordan and BAR, as well as chief rival Ferrari, and decided not to take it lying down. Having obvious connections to the world of anything alcoholic, they quickly struck a deal with the friendly people at Budweiser, and before you could say Alcoholics anonymous, a huge "Powered by Bud" sticker adorned the rear wing. Not satisfied with the initial agreement, the boys at BMW played hardball. Budweiser collapsed like a 98 pound wine-o, and threw in a couple hundred barrels of Bud for drowning their sorrows, and clean parts as need be. Confident that they are ready for the race, they began the celebration for Octoberfest. Hey better late than never right!

McLaren has not been sitting by and not noticing what was going on. They too keep a close eye on their competition. Using a highly trained SAS agent cleverly disguised as a air wrench, he has kept top brass up to speed on the goings-on of his cheif rivals. Faster than you can say "covert" he immediately ordered the installation of the plastic front mount intercooler on both cars. A shrewed decision no doubt, as the sight of an intercooler on a Normally Aspriated car would scare the people into submission. To add insult to injury, the audio blow off valve will also be incorporated. You can still hear the wicked chuckling in the McLaren pit now as they are so confident of certain victory!

Minardi, Benetton, and Prost pooled their budget and bought a big screen TV to watch the race, with the money left over, they bought a half dozen Big Mac's to eat while the race was going on.

Sauber, now feeling like a legitamate contender, has entered into the fray. Unfortuanately hampered by their new software, engine management system, Microsoft Formula 1 2000, Driver Kimi Riakkonen was wounded during a crash in practice when clippy the paperclip appeared and asked if he wanted help slowing down the car. While poor Kimi was looking to cancel the window, the hit a cone which sent him 130 feet over the pit wall and into a Pretzel vendor. The pretzel vendor is okay, but estimated losses in pretzel profit for the race are in the millions. Footage of Kimi's wreck can will be seen in the upcomming 20 Century Fox movie, "The Fast and the Frivalous"

Those are my predictions for this race, I know SOME people may find them a TAD far fetched, but hey it could happen!

i am otherwise engaged this weekend, Paul Stoddard wasn't too chuffed with my idea of afixing a flag pole to the top camera mount for the warm up lap. Never mind, these ausies dont have a sense of humour.

Hey, when i was at goodwood this Sunday and chilli dog was blasting past me at mach1 i shouted out "Go Chilli Dog"

I got some odd looks i can tell you. :D LOL

SCRAPPYDO,
That was hilarious!

John,
Nice work starting the "Go Chili Dog" chant in the real world. Keep shouting it at the race Sunday and maybe it will catch on. I want to see people calling him that by Indy!

What's a Doner Kebab?
donjuan 07-11-2001 07:51 AM

chant

CHI LI DOG
CHI LI DOG
CHI LI DOG
J Colman 07-11-2001 09:05 AM

A Doner Kebab is like a big Gyro in this country, it is shaved strips of lamb. It comes as one big peice of meat (looks like a 3 foot elephant leg) that is then stood upright and and it rotates around a spit, which cookes the outer layer of meat. It is then shaved off in small slices and put inside a Pita. It is covered with lettuce, onion, and then chili sauce. They are great, but you have to be dead pissed (drunk) to enjoy it to the fullest. They are usually served from a van (like an ice cream guy) who parks his van outside the local pubs and night clubs, and then waits on unsuspecting louts. You can get a king size doner for about 3 or 4 pound.

A good doner will give you this effect

A delicious doner after 10 pints of John Smiths Extra Smooth will give you this effect

A doner without booze will give you this effect

Alright lads, if you have any other doner realted questions please feel free to ask me, I have consumed my fair share in my time.

I'm gonna piss myself if I hear a CHILI DOG chant at Indy. If we're all scattered around the course though, you never know it just might happen :) Too bad JPM (and most of the crowd) wouldn't even know we were chanting for him...
David Coulthard reckons that McLaren don't deserve to win the world championship because they have made too many mistakes.

The Scot is careful to use the royal 'we' in his criticism but apart from his error in the French Grand Prix when he exceeded the pit-lane speed limit, the Scot has driven superbly this season.

Speaking to the BBC Coulthard said: "You either do a job that is deserving of the title or you don't and at the moment we are not and we know we need to improve."

"The easiest way to win is to have the best car and to perform," said Coulthard. "But as long as I know that I'm giving 100 per cent then I'll take the positives out of (my situation).

"I can't do anything about the car. I can't try and solve it because it is not my speciality. You need to rely on the people around you and then things will get better.

"In our quest to make things better we miss things and make mistakes. We are only human, it is a human sport despite all the technology that is involved. I'm not any harder on the people who have made mistakes than I need to be because we can all make mistakes."

Coulthard is refusing to give up on the world championship despite the fact that Schumacher is now 31 points ahead in the standings.

"Naturally, it is deflating to see the gap increasing, but because I wasn't looking at the points gap when it was four points, I haven't noticed so much that it has gone up," he said.

"You either win or you lose. If I lose the championship it can be by 60 points - it doesn't matter if you've lost by a couple of points because it has still happened."
Is it just me, or does it seem like DC is blaming the people around him for not helping him win the World Championship?

Justin
donjuan 07-11-2001 10:22 AM

That's exactly what I thought when I read that this morning. Right on par for DC.
J Colman 07-11-2001 10:45 AM

Yep, I mean, he chokes and then blames everyone around him because he doesn't have the best car. He had the best car for a couple of years and Mika smoked him both seasons. I think DC is doomed to never win a title.

Justin
Zahnster 07-11-2001 11:10 AM

If I remember correctly, didn't McLaren have the best car this season until the Spanish Grand Prix?
J Colman 07-11-2001 11:20 AM

I think it is debatable. They might have a little more power, but Ferrari is rock solid when it comes to reliability. I would rather have the Ferrari than the McLaren anyday at the moment, but two years ago when they romped all over the field in Australia, I would have taken the McLaren.
Coulthard should have been more of a contender those years. I dont knock him for not trying, but now he is fighting an up-hill battle to stay on par with the Ferrari, whereas 2 years ago, he had a definate advantage, he just didnt take the bull by the horns.
Did you guys read that Kimi is eyeing a Ferrari drive, and the news reports say that they might be considering him as a replacement for Schumi, when he leaves the team. I kinda hope so, I think Kimi could do a good job with more practice and experience. McLaren have locked in DC for the next year, big surprise.

Justin
donjuan 07-11-2001 11:25 AM

I'll tell you what I'd like to see next year...

Hakkinen/Raikkonen at McLaren, but i think DC is signed like Justin said.
J Colman 07-11-2001 11:47 AM

He did, but Mika has not been given the nod yet, makes me wonder if the rumours about retirement are true. Kimi would be cool at McLaren too, but they may be looking for a brit, I am interested. I think I would make a good addition to the Mercedes McLaren team. I would look smashing in one of those silver shirts. :p

Murray Walker
And here comes Justin Colman out of nowhere, storming through the field. Although he missed qualifying and started in last place, he has made up 18 spots in 10 laps, he's really turning up the heat on the front runners. Colman takes a look on the inside of Barrichello and goes for the pass.....ooohhh that was close, that's the way you out break an opponent in Formula 1. I just cant believe how he is moving through the field, it looks like he has Hakkinen, Montoya and R. Schumacher to pass now, can he do it? This could be interesting, back markers, Colman moves off the line and lookes to the outside of Hakkinen and the struggling Minardi. I Cant believe it, the Minardi's lack of acceleration has given Colman the edge on Mika and he passed him. Wait a second, is that Montoya going slowly, what in the world? The story of this Grand Prix folks, is definitly Justin Colman, all he has to do is catch Ralf and this may be one of the greatest races of all time. Here goes Ralf into the pits, Colman is staying out, he must be running on fumes, but he turning in a scorching lap. Ralf's out out of the pit's, not a bad stop, 8.73 secs, can Colman make it count here. Colman pits, and he's out, in 7.98, will this be enough? This pitlane exit must seem like an eternity. Colman exits the pits, and here comes the younger Schumacher, he's storming up hehind him. Ralf makes the pass, but Colman is right there behind him, this is turning out to be classic confrontation. Colman is using every inch of the track, he's all over Ralf, waiting for a small mistake. And there it is, Ralf has kissed the Armco, The mirrors filled with nothing but Colman nust have distracted Ralf, and he put a foot wrong. All Colman has to do now is concentrate on not making any mistakes himself and the race is his
Aaahhhhhh, I can see it now.

Justin :o
donjuan 07-11-2001 11:55 AM

but what's this??...

...Dittmar has moved through the field as well and is just a few seconds behind Colman. The last minute Williams replacement took the drive after Montoya binged on chili-dogs and Marc Gene had a mysterious incident with an unknown fan in which his ankle was broken. It looks to be a battle of rookies here this afternoon. Dittmar's Michelins appear to be holding up well, and it looks as if Colman is slowing a bit.....
