did you correct for chassis roll, dive and squat? was the bmw peak instantaneous g's higher then the sti, thus the faster slalom and transition times? how about car placement in those transitions? i mention this because kC and i saw similar differences in data when we logged his rx-8 when we both drove it. the data logger is a great tool, but like any tool it has to be used properly for the greatest benefit. for example, raw data indicated nearly 1.4g's steady state in the BS rx-8. corrected it was not quite 1.1g's. it also showed that i was faster in the offset slalom. my approach to the slalom was entirely different then kC's, and despite running nearly identical times (well, if you throw out his missed 1-2 upshift  ) i was nearly .5 seconds quicker in that one spot. if you ignored us driving the same car you'd think the car i drove sucked under braking but slalomed awesome and that the car kc drove was awesome in trail brake corner entry but sucked in slaloms. not saying this is the case with the data you presented, but without knowing more i have to treat this as nothing more then interesting.
nate
I think the data falls into the "interesting" catagory as we were using it for the first time and most likely not perfectly setup between the various cars we used it in.

that's good and fine. unfortunately, those without any experience with data loggers might have read your data as real world numbers, not understanding that if the M3 has more chassis roll it could actually have a lower lateral g's then the STi or that if the logger was mounted with a couple degrees of offset different between the two cars the braking and accel data is skewed. view my post as the disclaimer.
nate - who will be interested to see if the RX-8 can hit the same numbers in STU prep as it can in BS prep
I'm aware of their handling prowess. But I'm stating, against my RS, Mark's nationally prepped 8 couldn't keep up in a straight line. I've also seen mark put down some suprising times. But that has little to do with the power or lackthereof contained by the RX-8.
LOL, Talking about me behind my back again, funny as hell the things people say when there's nobody around to dispute it. As best I recall we were dead even on most launch straights, but no matter. Nobody gives a hoot about some local event BS .... like me smoking your @ss the next day after making some adjustments from my Nationals setup for the slippery surface conditions.  Then again. maybe that's the surprise you were referring to ... :disco:

Mark - I don't see anything about ratt_finkel's statement that warranted an attack. It's not going "behind your back" to compare straight line acceleration between the two cars.

Oh I did that quite some time ago so I didn't have to read the drivel. It only takes a few posts for me to figure out if someone is a real keyboard cowboy or not.
What I like even more these days is seeing posts come along later on only to have the post basically validate the reason I ignored them in the first place. :)

Hey Mark,
I seriously hope you don't think my remark was a poke at you or your driving. My point was simply that the RX-8 was underpowered--at least in the stint where putting power down is an issue. I have no problem admiting that my car is such. And certainly did not make the comment "behind your back". Here you are disputing. I'm not taking back my statement. And would not have made the statement had I thought it was false.
In addition, why is that "local event BS" any less serious or valid than another event? There was money on the line, and I would assume everyone there "dumped all of their sand" in an attempt for the money and bragging rights.
As far as the next day, I'm assuming this is the @ss kicking you are talking about? http://www.autocross.com/er/cc1005.htm#r
Well raw time you are right, it was a longer, traditional higher speed event in which your type of car excells. The day before, a shorter mirror cross event where my car excelled. Yet, you were still over 1 second faster raw time.
So what's the problem?

there's no problem ad my comments weren't intended as an attack hence the  , those were just the final two PAX runs; I ran over 3/10ths slower and you ran 3/10ths faster than our class times. You excelled on one side, which I corrected for the next day. My car would not turn right on the RH course. I was beat by a stock class E36 M3 on that side. He was 3 seconds behind me on the next day. So IMO you took the results and tried to draw conclusions from them that aren't really valid. The circumstances matter too. One event does not define a car; yours or mine.
I don't think ignoring TeamRX8 in STU is going to work in the long run... :p

Well...so far I SUCK. Mike has beat me at the first two WDCR events. I coned the first event away and coned away a fast first run this weekend. We'll have the springs in the car soon and I'll have some more time in the car to get up to speed better. This has only been my 4th time in the car so I've got some more STi learnin' to do.
We have over -3 camber on the car finally and it transitions oh-so-nice. Virtually eliminated the push in sweepers too. We need to work out the rubbing issue in the rear of the car with the +35 offset wheels though.

An Evo IX would be fun in STU - aren't they making like 40-50 more HP than the 8's?
Even though that's probably the best car for the class, it's not what I'd run. I'd build a 93+ Supra Turbo. With the gamut of ST mods it should run mid 11's in the quarter, and those 275's would look badass stretched out on 11.5's out back. Wheeee!!! One day, one day...

When you can run ~20psi on the strip, then drop it to stock boost for STU.
