Not to take away from Sam, but we are testing a 28mm solid bar for wagons tomorrow night! We should have information tomorrow on fitment and information on the group buy if they fit the next day.
I have to show them I can sell some quantity, and this poll will help.
I should think so!
This poll shows conclusively that infinitly more people would buy this bar than would not buy it, and a wagon sway bar is more than four times as popular as buttsecks!
That's saying something!

I'm interested in a big sway bar to help out my camber issues for solo racing. I race SCCA D Stock.

Just for ****s and giggles we tried fitting a sedan X3003 25-28mm whiteline bar and it fit just fine on a 2005 WRX wagon.
Also as a note. The "test" bar we had didn't fit, but it was essentially the same thing as the X3003 bar.

Is the suspension geometry different between the 05 and 04 wagons and the same between 05 sedans and 05 wagons? I would think the sedan bar would be longer and with a different endlink location then the wagon.
| Sideshowbob | 03-23-2006 02:56 PM |
They connect the links to the inside of the bar to get it to work.
I am considering ordering it to try it out.

I was just thinking about the orientation of the 'slot' on the Strano Bar, and connecting the links to the inside of the bar wouldn't work. Strano's bar slot, has a top and bottom. Not a left and right. It makes sense considering Strano's endlink connection versus 'other' bars.
Sam, us wagon fools want your bar. When's the Addco boys bending one up for us?

biggest front sway bar for a wagon?

Hi...
I heard the best setup for a WRX wagon in auto-x is the biggest/stiffest possible front sway bar. What options do I have?
whiteline has the only wagon specific front sway bar that I know of.... they also have a 29 mm but i dont know if thats for a wagon or not.
what bars will work and/or are recommended for an auto-x wagon?

Call Hotchkis and ask which years of the wagon that a sedan fsb will fit. I have an '03 and the 25.4 mm sedan fsb fits perfectly. I tried to order the "wagon" model, but was told it wasn't necessary. Not that they have a 29 mm version, but the '02 may accomodate the normal sedan bars.
Edit: The suspension forum may get a better response.

I don't believe sedan front bars fit a wagon....... rear will though.

hotckis lists the 25.4 mm sway bar for the wagon also... i think its the exact part... dont know, then, if the 02 wagon will accept ANY front sway bar.
I really wanted to go front whiteline 29 mm with a rear 20-24 mm adjustable whiteline... i tried to call whiteline's toll free # (they are in australia) but the # only had 6 digits after the 1800. so i dont know what the deal is with that... i really want to get a big front sway bar considering that the hotckis fits your wagon. that seems like something of a good sign.

I too would be interested in going with as big a FSB as I can.
Whether or not it is hollow or not doesnt matter for me.... the stiffer the better... I think that means a whole lot more than saving a measly 5-10 lbs.

so is the whiteline 25-28 mm the same as the 29 mm I was referring to? I guess its just the adjustable sedan one? Whiteline has so many sway bars on these sites that I am getting them all confused.
| VpointVick | 04-14-2006 01:23 PM |
I think that they just misspoke. Whiteline doesn't have any 25-28 adjustable bars listed in their catalog.
XSF33XXZ is a 27mm bar that is supposed to be equivilent to a 29mm when run in the firmest setting. This bar is supposed to be sedan specific, but I'm certain that this is the one they are talking about using on a wagon, with the endlinks mounted inboard.

well i can't wait for the strano bar.... seems like it would be sweet though.
ordered the 27 mm whiteline solid bar (XSF33XXZ aka X3003, for STI) with adjustable endlinks... the rep at whiteline said the bars were identical in dimensions with the exception that the angle is a bit different. so I got adjustable spherical whiteline bushings (KLC38) to make sure it fits good as per the rep's advice.
i will report back once I install it (thursday or friday) and let you all know how it is. The car's allignment is off though, so i wont be able to test it as much as I would like :)

The Stranoparts bar for the sedan includes bushings, bar, and endlinks. Everything required for install.
If Sam gets around to doing a bar for the wagon I imagin that it would be the same.

I'm hoping this gets made. The wrx wagon front bar fits the GC8 chassis. Currently the biggest bar for the GC8 is either 22mm whiteline or 25mm if you can track down the mythical addco bar. Can't wait for a bigger bar.
| sstrano | 05-16-2006 12:52 PM |
I hope it does too..... I'm trying, but right now Addco can't keep up with what's going on in general. That's why I'm out of the WRX/STI bar and my F-body bars!!!! Which are already production parts. :(

Do you have a reliable source for the WL bar?
| VpointVick | 06-26-2006 02:13 PM |
I think Boxer4racing has them, I know a few guys on the board have gotten them from there recently, but I'd heard that the US distributor may be backordered for a few weeks.

i got my 27 mm whiteline (27mm/29mm) from JnJ associates
www.jnjassociates.biz
very good customer support, they helped a lot.
I also just ordered my rear bar from them too :)
keep in mind that one thing to think about is matching a rear bar to the front bar... I have the 27 mm front, so to match it to anything that would give me a reasonable level of adjustability, i had to get the 24 mm WL bar (22/24/26). This bar is really the only bar that matches up nicely to the 27 mm front in terms of different stiffnesses when compared to stock... you could go 27mm in the rear, but the rear would probably be too stiff then and you would definitely see rear wheel lift unless you have nice coilovers (such as whitelines) to prevent it...
IMO the WL 27 mm bar is just as good as a 32 mm hollow bar - the hollow bar is only equivalent to 29.2 mm solid, and the WL 27mm = 29mm solid in its stiffer setting.

put me in the "hellz yeah" catagory
you should link this poll in the suspension thread
I've been looking for a larger FSB for my wagon but can't find one
I'm running whiteline 22mm adjustable front and rear with the rear on the middle setting
after a few auto-xs on the setup I'd like a larger front [maybe 27mm] and then I would put the rear on the stiffest setting
so yes pleaz some one for the love of God make a large FSB for teh wagonz!

no, it is not wagon specific. it is the STI bar. If you run the whiteline spherical front endlinks (KLC38) fitment is perfectly fine.
i think fitment is very tight with normal endlinks (KLC30).

| silver arrow | 10-20-2006 10:12 PM |
I have the stranos bar and fitment is poor and the design is problematic. Bar cosistently contacts it's own mounting brackets causing great stress on the a arms. This is with 12k spring in front on my car. Much worse with softer springs. The bushing wear out very quickly also. Have dealt with the WL bar on my neighbors car. Fits well, isn't noising and works well. May give up alittle in stiffness to the stranos but I think the trade off is worth it.

I think it died off because he stopped making any Subaru bars. Instead of modifying the design to address the problems with the bar, he got defensive and refused to admit that the bar has some shortcomings. Pretty disappointing because the changes that needed to be made were small and several customers even came up with solutions and shared them, but Sam just stopped responding, insisting the SB was fine. Quite a few broken a arms to say different.
