Better facilities. A nice mid-eighties white Dodge 3/4 ton van loaded with ice and lots of beverages, a porta-potty, and with a special homemade wooden plateform on the roof with a TV tuned to the latest NASCAR redneck yahoo event so we can yell scream and stuff when we get bored with Micheal Schumacher parading around in the lead. :)

Thats a great picture of my car! It's the first blue one with the STi exhaust!...

LOL! Don't forget the Testarossa driver to yell abuse at!

What has 17" wheels, 4 wheel drive, v-8, 4 doors and aluminum suspension arms?

my dodge scooby:p

Beer? Were'nt they selling Miller Lites too? Not that that's any better.

Who's blue rex had the i-club t-shirt draped over the drivers seat?

NICE pics, even got the OBS thanks...

"I went through it once. Got brave and decided to do it again. Wrong answer! Wasted a Burrito Supreme on the side of the road."

*Really*!? That's almost funny ;)

I've heard of Deals Gap, but where is it? I discovered we missed Hiway 7 in Arkansas, only to learn once we got home what an awesome road it is, bummer.
Streetman 10-04-2002 04:06 PM

Scenic 7, as the locals know it. It's unreal. I took it way back when. Devote at least an hour extra on your trip to make it the whole way, and back onto the highway. Well worth it.
AA717driver 10-06-2002 11:49 AM

The Corral...
Just talked with a Passat-driving friend last night. He went by the Subie Corral and was really impressed. I gave him the scoop on the WRX and I think he's going to take the plunge.

As to what would make the race better, I think putting stands up where the first turn is(in the infield) would sell a lot of seats. No one wants to sit in Stand E or the SW Vista and see a parade of cars. We F1 fans like turns. Also, IMO, replace the Ferrari challenge with an ALMS event. Maybe have practice and quals on Friday with a race on Sat.?TC
Streetman 10-06-2002 04:44 PM

You don't want any stands in the infield, trust me. Back when the 500 drew a huge crowd, that was all I could get some years, and it really limits the amount of track you can see.

In turn one, there's also another problem. You'd be blocking the view that Sections H and J have of about half the infield. Those are the only two sections that sold out.

I can't build extra seating, tell IMS get better beer, or change the rules to make the WWF1 a little more competitive. What I can do is either get IMS to seperate the corrals, or just seperate ourselves next year. I'm sure people will hang a little longer with everyone together. Also, from what I've heard the people who left early did just what I predicted-spent serious time in traffic. Maybe next year you'll spend that time hangin out in the corral?
generator 10-06-2002 05:41 PM

We hung around after the race until an officer got on his mega phone and told us to pack it up and head home. Still ran into traffic when we left...
Streetman 10-06-2002 05:57 PM

Really? We were right there with you, and drove right to 38th ST, no problem. It was about like rush hour, but not like it was standing still. Very smooth, for a raceday.
The_Triton 10-06-2002 11:43 PM

Hey guys. Had a great time!!!! Loved seeing all the subies there mixed in with the exotics:devil: I was the guy parked next to Mr. Enzowho Viper. I had the Subaru banner

Would love to see separate corrals next year. Sounds like it shouldn't be a problem.

Streetman.......thnx again!!!! You need to get yourself a subie.

The friend that I had with me said that he is gonna try to post some more pics on this thread.

Streetman 10-07-2002 01:51 AM

I'll have a Subie soon. The car lot I was looking at sold to someone else for stupid money. I wasn't too enthused about being a used car salesman for life, but the price WAS right, for a time. I'm getting totally out, already onto the next thing. Now the only car lot I have is in my driveway. Once I get rid of these three, I'm buying the Subie. Finally, totally done, no matter what deal I run across. Going the L route with RS engine. Already got the engine sourced locally, with pleanty of time to get it done. I expect to at least have the L by the time snow flies. Ed Kwon, are you listening?

On a seperate note, did everyone see the Speed coverage of the USGP tonight? Pretty decent, I must say. Derrick Dailey got removed from filming a blistered Bridgestone in the pits. Dude who moved him out threw a cover over the tire, and quickly escorted him away. Gotta love it when your reporter goes the extra mile to get you the inside scoop. He finished his report with, "...and obviously Bridgestone didn't want you to see that."

The best reporter in motorsports, bar none.

You turned off to hit the bars,(still wish I could have gone too!)after that it was all stop and go.

Speed coverage of the race was pretty good. I liked DD's annual grid walk pointing people of intrest out, " and for those of you whao were fans of the Sex Pistols of the past, there's Johnny Rotten over there!" I thought it was pretty funny...

It was some good fun. I had hoped for great fun, but it was just the first year. Next year I'm sure we will have just as many people and more. And if you havn't got it by now, we WILL be in our own space, whethter it's via IMS or our own doing.

And if it doesn't work out, I see a Ralley cross through the fifth hole's teebox, and fairway of Tony George's precious Brickyard Crossing Golf course. I say if they don't do what we say, it becomes the Ralley De Brickyard, in short order. Who's with me? Bonzo, you've got the biggest tires of the bunch.

Even so, I KNOW there's more pics. Where are they? C'mon, it's not going to take long, let's see em.
generator 10-21-2002 04:42 PM

...he he he... rally de Brickyard sounds fun either way!

Okay, you talked me into it. Here are all 164 of my pics from the weekend.

Imagestation reverses the order of the pictures when you upload them. If you want to view them in order, then select the drop down in the top left, and pick the last picture. Then select previous for each new picture.

I need more zoom on some of these pics, but most are okay. Enjoy :)

The weekend ended up costing me more than I expected. I was hanging around afterward when the guy with the Prodrive muffler left and gave us a little rev to listen to it. Sounded sweet!

I installed my new Prodrive muffler last night. :D

Nate, that was you taking pictures there at the end? Now I have a face to go along with the name. except I forget what you look like. Tall, thin, sandy haired, I think.

That's me on the cover of the photo album with my knees sticking out and my head cut off. Nice choice of cover art...

So, next we are going somewhere the same time (probably M-O in the spring), take a look at the guy with the monky again, and then look me up. Maybe finally we will get to meet.

Steve
nhalterman 10-24-2002 09:20 AM

Yea, Sorry for chopping your head off. The monkey was my subject in that photo. :D That was the last picture I took, and imagestation reverses the order. So that's why you and your monkey were cover art. :)

I remember you. Your description of me fits pretty well too. Yea, I'll probably be at Mid-Ohio next spring. Hope to see you there. :)
Bonzo 10-24-2002 11:49 PM

I've always had a fantasy of ripping up a perfectly good golf course with a motorized vehicle:devil:
Streetman 10-26-2002 05:43 AM

Mid Ohio for what? I'll be there for the AMA Motorcycle races. Biggest crowd of the year, sans Daytona.

Hey Bonzo, you missed the boat on ripping apart the course. It used to be an annual even called the Indy 500. 'Til Tony G made it a family even, and axed the infield party. Homo!

While I've got you here, if you wanna see some carnage, check out this link entitled "Opie Caylor Hits Deer At Road Atlanta": http://venus.13x.com/roadracingworld/index.html OUCH!

Other stories from RoadRacing World that might interest you, Rossi is driving a 206 in the Rally of Great Britain, and Jaco took first with Beaty in the GNF endurance race. I should have never quit riding.

Mid Ohio for what?
Everything!

I was at all the events this year except CART (conflict) and Vintage Bikes (on vacation in Virginia in the MGA) plus one of the SCCA regional events. Took the WRX to all except the vintage weekend. There I was a participant in the infield events. Took Best MGA this year on Saturday, and had it last year (according to the guy doing the counting) until an official let some late votes get counted. (Missed by one vote.) Then was selected as one of about 15 finalists out of over 400 cars for the judged concourse on Sunday both of the last two years.

Somewhere on here there were pictures of three of us lined up in our own mini Subie corral at the ALMS races, and two guys from Indy parked together for the Runoffs (picture here somewhere, as well.) Strangely, after talking to these guys (they were at M-O with photographers credentials) I actually saw them a week later driving south on whatever that road is that runs right in front of IMS while we were driving north heading for gate 10. Small world. Never saw them inside.
Streetman 10-26-2002 06:16 PM

Look me up next year before the AMA race. A friend of mine races there whenever it doesn't conflict with WERA endurance rounds. By the way, he was the one who threw it down at the bottom of the hill on the back section attempting to go into 2nd place in the 750 Superstock race. It was just out of my view, but I hear it was pretty spectacular. Pretty fast lowside with the bike doing a nice few cartwheels after digging into the grass.

That track is one of my favorites. I might have even seen your WRX this year. I saw one with a licence plate that said "Gangley" or something, and another blue one with gold P1's. There were a couple others there too. I think I saw more there that weekend than I ever have in Indy, except for USGP weekend.

I might try making out there for CART too. The only CART race I went to this year was Cleveland. I'm going to try to hit Mid Ohio, and Road America next year. Maybe I'll see you there.
