STX thanks to slotted rotors and SS lines on my otherwise stock WRX.
So is a 2.5RS competitive anywhere? I know the '89 Civic Si rules STS but the local (NWR) STS champ is a 2.5RS driver. What about DSP? Or even after putting ALL of that money into the car will it still be a lost cause?
Corey is very fast and competitive in his RS. Wins ProSolos occasionally and usually is top 3 in Philly Pro class.
SM for me.....because a thread I made a year or two ago said a STI would never be nationally competative in SM and I'm bound and determined to prove them wrong. :p
Awesome!
I run BSP because I like tinkering with stuff, and I bought the car to autocross. I also think that street tires only work well (and safely) for smaller cars). SM is tempting, but the rules are too open for my budget. If I ever get bumped to ASP then I'll jump into SM in a heartbeat (or sell and start on a new platform).

FWIW, I really wish someone would build a 2006 WRX TR for ESP. It would take a $15k+ budget, but it would win.

DS because I really wasnt happy running my Stage 2 '03 in SM last year. So now I have nice virginal '06 wagon with a whiteline frontbar. And I REALLY need to go get a decent alignment before the next Auto-X
(I was classed in SM last year because I put a CF hood on after somebody crumpled my stock one.)

Couldn't you swap the 2.5L into a 2002/2003?

STS, because I have friggin huge wheels, otherwise I'd be in stock.
Bad part is STS allows an a$$load if mods, which most in the class have done, but I'm still stock other than exaust.

ESP because I want to run an OBX front LSD and a bigger intercooler. Will work a strong tune pushing close to 20psi in second gear. Race tires really make a difference. In several local autocrosses my STX prepped car gets better times than ESP.
I was in STX for about a year with Cobb map, exhaust, springs, struts, sway bars and usually won...ESP should be more of a challenge.
Yes, I know that the WRX is not competitive in ESP without some serious cash...oh well, I'm not going to Nationals or anything like that. Plus, I'll learn to tune for that future turbo upgrade

You'd need to swap the motor, tranny, and brakes to do it right. You could gamble with the 02-05 tranny but I think you'd get burned in the end. IMO starting with the 06 would be a lot easier and would get you within a few lbs of the resultant frankencar.

You are probably 2 diffs, a set of (hacked) fenders, and some big wheels away from being competitive...

BSP
because...
Street Tires Suck
Stock Cars are too quiet
I can just barely afford to compete nationally...
Saw pics of stompy and was inspired..plus Joel turned out to be a nice guy, lol..who offers good advice.
I like being fast, starting to get a little worn out trying to get everything working right which exceeds the budget for this year. Next year the car should be a strong BSP car..
The BSP crowd I know on NASIOC and national events are all pretty cool.
The locals mostly dropped from BSP when I went there, lol, so I also like BSP for the very, very, very, very, small advantage over the SM pax multiplier for overall competition.

I run G-stock
Firstly because it happend to be where the car was classed.
I developed it to stock class rules once I became competitive.
Slapped on a set of V710's and I've been hooked ever since.
I would like to try STS or DSP sometime. But that is currently out of the budget.
The RS has officially been retired as of last weekend, it's apparant to me now that the car in it's best form and with the best driver will still be hopelessly outclassed.
If you can't beat them, join them ;)
Currently, I aim to improve as a driver, which could be difficult as STX is a rather small class in my region.
Not really. Maybe at NORA events, but not in this area as a whole. The northern OH/PA/MI area has quite a few of the top STX drivers in the country. Go to a Neohio event (Cleveland area - Lakeland Community College) to compete against Phil and I. Go to a NWOR event (Toledo) to compete against Greg McCance (and possibly Phil, me, Jason, Billy). Go to a SCR event (PA/OH border) to compete against Randy Pearson (and possibly Phil and I). Go to an OVR event (Columbus) and you'll sometimes find Phil, me, Jason, Billy there. Last year, we had Andy Basham too, but we scared him away - he ran away to a S2000 in AS. ;) (I'm just kidding, Andy is one of our very good friends!) Go to Detroit Region to compete against Jason and Billy (or does Billy run his own car locally?) and possibly Greg too (I swear Phil and I will make it one of these times!!). And there are plenty of other STX drivers in each of those regions as well (except Neohio currently, but I hope to change that!).

To expand on what Jen said. You can also base your peformance on other classes. See how you stack up against GS, DS, STS, STU or anyone else who you'd just plain like to catch. I had to do that for along time because the GS contigent in my region didn't offer much.

I was trying to do that a bit at my first event, comparing my times to recreational autocrossers and the hardcore competitive autocrossers. I was 0.9xx seconds behind a DS WRX running on RE92s. The driver, who I didn't meet, does have seem to have some more experience than I.
Jen, I saw your LERSOC announcement regarding the Lakeland CC event in August. I will try to make that event and be schooled by you and Phil. ;)
