I know he was, I was on-line and found 1/4'' 150ft for $20 I'm going to order that so until that comes in nail polish for now

i think i like pink better on white but red better on virtually everything else. black would look good with pink i guess.

Sub'ed. Nice job dudes! I am going to do all three grills on my 06. Just need to figure out which color would look good on a CGM color.

Something other than red or pink. Any ideas ?

katsumoru, the prostripe red doesn't match the supertone red well at ALL. check out the pictures of my car, i used the prostripe and hated it, the red had ALOT of orange in it and looked cheap, if you want to match the supertone red perfectly use 3m brand red reflective tape. I think that pink looks good with sti's because of all the pink logos on it, but if I didn't have an sti I would for sure do the red, and thanks 1st scooby for posting my picks, whoever came up with this idea is a genius, I mean look at all the response this thread as gotten in just a few a days. I love my pink, it just shouts out STI

Just did this DIY and Cleared my headlight in yesterday....
I know..my car is dirty...(rain hard when I was about to wash my car this morning..=.=")
since I dun see anyone do the grillwings on black...

for those who bought the protstripe stuff - did u get the 1/8" width or the 1/4" width? i saw both at the store but wasn't sure which was best?

am i the only one that did this diy without taking off the grill? it was really easy. knocked it out in like 10 mins. just gotta take your time and focus a lil.

i've been putting off painting my headlights, but now i think i'm gonna have to that and the ra-r stripe as well...i think i may stay traditional with just the center on my CGM wagon and maybe mod my stars badge to black instead of blue

Taking off the grill takes all of 5 minutes, allows you to clean it better, and since the black mesh overlaps the painted lip a little, you are guaranteed a clean edge without any painted areas showing through or dirt getting between the two.

what have you guys been using to take the intial two plastic tabs off the tob of the grille to get it off? I stuck a flat head under and tried to wedge it out but i am nervous bout breaking it..:mad: does it just pop out with the right amount of pressure?

Use your hand to release the tabs. Jam it into the space between the hood latch and the grill. It helps to remove all of the plastic clips on the top of the bumper to give you more space.

If you're talking about the plastic push rivets a small flathead driver will work. Pry the center portion out first, then pull the entire thing out.

Nope I did not take off my grill either.

All I can say is WOW, I cant believe all the fans of this mod! When I originally did it I thought I was going to get flamed for being a spec c wanna be. I find it completely flattering that folks are doing this to their cars!

EDIT: it's april fools. When I type "F" "T" "L" (minus the quotes) up above but when I save my changes it automatically becomes "F-" "T-" "W-" (minus quotes again).

I couldn't come up with it. Granted, when I bought my car the RA-R was already out so I couldn't do much about it. I didn't do it so much because it was JDM but because I like it. I don't get the people who are "That's hot because it's JDM!" Some JDM things are cool, some aren't. I could care less if it's JDM if I like or hate, that's what matters to me.

Go to the main forums page, and under the Regionals, "MAIC" is listed as "Miata and Impreza Club," instead of "Mid-Atlantic Impreza Club." :D (This is because there's a lot of MAIC'ers who've bought Miatas as second cars, which I guess Nick used as ammo for his gag this year.)

Just a note..

I dont care if its JDM, EDM, USDM, or whatever.. I just liked it.. and did it... it has nothing to do with thinking its bling. I am pretty much a toned down person. I like low key simple mods..

yea, don't get me wrong, i think it looks pretty cool too, but just the fact that people do it to basically copy another trim of the impreza model, it kind of loses it's originality... all i'm trying to say is that you'd never done this mod if it wasn't for the RA-R model, despite the fact that it's so simple...

Oh I don't know about that. Perhaps its popularity would be less, but NASIOC, RS25, i-Club.... Most forum members appreciate an attractive mod, even if it's not "genuine" or whatever.

I'm just as guilty of going after the greener grass, I mean I have a Ver.6 grille on my RS. **shrug** But with me, I think it looks much better. :)

Oh I understand, it's cool. I think it's nuts what some people do, too, but it's their money and car, I guess. :)

The craziest ones I've seen, are pursuits like S204 Recaro seats. Where you can get the identical Recaro, without the "STi" logo and direct-fit, for...oohhhhh.... several thousand less. :D

But again, if the cash is there... *shrug* Whatever blows up thine kilt!

I have no clue if it's removable or not. I wasn't doing it to copy the RA-R as much as i was doing it to copy an idea I liked. I'm not trying to really impersonate anything. If I see any car with a cool idea that I like I'll put it on mine (if it fits). I have blue gauges with red needles too. Guess I'm copying jetta's now ;)

I like this mod not because it's on the RA-R, but because it does look kinda nice on its own.

A lot of people like to do things to make their car look a little different than just the average WRX/STIs, so every little bit that they can do for cheap, helps ;)

oh come on man. Its very simple....Extremely simple actually. If you like it, cool, do it. If you dont, DONT DO IT! STOP overanalyzing it "OH you're inpersenating", "oh you're a ricer" "oh if i civic did it it would be rice, so what makes you not rice for doin it?" i mean who cares. You shouldnt be modding your car to please anyone but yourself (unless your in competition, sponsored, or something lol or just plain makin a show car :p ).

Really guys, I did it and I like it. It definately makes it stand out from the "just another WRX goin down the street". If you like the look, its easy, and looks great. If you think its "rice" or "trying to be somethin its not" then try this....dont do it lol, works every time.

ok, i've said this once, but i'll say it again: i don't give a fuq whether or not if the mod looks "madd tight" or not, for all i care the pinstriping can be neon green, if people like that on their cars, great, so be it... what i've been commenting on from the very beginning is the MOTIVE behind doing these types of mods... it was only done because some limited edition jdm model came out with them, correct? anyone can come up with an idea to put some red pinstripe around the center grille; it's actually pretty random for that matter... let's just say if the RA-R model DID NOT come with the red border in the grille and some random member on this forum decided to do it to be "unique", you'd definately have a different approach about it...

ok.. and Im saying SO WHAT? who cares about the motive? ALOT of things that we have today were originally "motivated" by something else. alot of things PERIOD for that matter. I mean are the guys that put WRC stuff in thier cars dumb simply because if the WRC cars hadn't of done it then they wouldn't have either? or are the people that do STi swaps or try to make thier cars look more JDM style dumb cause, if the original hadn't done it, then they wouldn't have either? no.

If someone posted with that mod and the type RA-R did not exist, YES I HIGHLY doubt it would be AS popular. But even though the type RA-R DOES exist there are STILL people that dont like it. a mods, a mods, a mods, a mods people will do them and share them, how they did them, where they got the parts, or the motivation doesnt really matter as long as it looks good and you like it. I just dont understand how people get so hung up on the "motivation" or if somethings "ricey" (which is SUCH a matter of opinion when it somes to something like this) and miss the "cool factor" of the mod itself... :lol:
