why do you need to stretch it in a first place? Cant you just put the stripe as is?

you obviously have not tried this yet. the bend at the top of the corners on both sides of the grille is to sharp to just lay it and keep it straight. The only way to get it to conform to the shape and stay straight was to use some heat from a hair dryer to stretch it enough to make it lay correctly and look right.

Thanks for the tip!

Technically I guess I stretched it some, but I didn't use a hair dryer.

+1 for RA-R grill...
i was split on sides... i sorta liked the look, but not 100% like i do center piece... plus few posts that i read about tape peeling on the wings... plus PITA clips...
looks awesome in my opinion. I used same stripe discussed on page 1. 3M did not seem to be THAT much different and it was only in 1'... so it would be additional task of cuting and making sure the cut is straight. In my opinion, stripes are the way to go. much less hastle and in all honesty it is not that much different from brakes... i mean like someone else said, if brakes were on the front of the car :) then sure... but who would notice when they are on the sides and 3 feet away?

Pita clips? no way man it's cake to get the whole grille out. took me about 2 min. to get all 3 pieces out.

I know that :p I did the front too. No wings. Did not want them to peel. So until you guys figure it out, the bull's nose is red and rest is stock :)
I dont know... wings were PITA for me... maybe due to fat fingers and stubborn plastic:confused: I was able to get two that were close to the center, but two that were to the sides... i could not :(

It's not hard at all to do...just try it..worst case you waste 5 bucks and an hour or so of your life. I am taking the winged pieces off tonight as the look like crap peeling.....actually it may be due to the fact that are cars are so freakin fast that the tape can't stay stuck.......
Maybe not.

i'm gonna redo my wings as well... the peeling is only at the part where i stretched it. so I'm gonna try minimal stretching when I am not nose deep on pathology or infection and immunology.

like the topic says...i found some actual STI color 1/4 inch pin striping to do the RA-R grill in the correct color. if anyone is interested please post here or PM me. i dont think it will be that expensive but it is the correct Pantone color, if not i wont do it either. but if enough people want some as well ill just order more and ship it along.

I had some leftover pin stripe tape, just doing the grill felt off balance so i wanted to see how the hood scoop would look using the same idea. I like it.

KENisFISX ...not really feeling the scoop...i think it would look better without it striped....maybe if you had some other pics where the striping doesn't look pink...in better light. post some up if you have them.
| Mechie3 | 09-06-2007 09:37 AM |
Ken, Maybe if you only did the outline of the scoop, but if you like it, that's cool. I'd paint your headlights too so the orange/red don't clash.
| KENisFISX | 09-06-2007 11:01 AM |
yeah the camera i used is about 10 years old now so it doesn't get very clean shots, just doing the border didn't look right, i wanted some more dimension to my hoodscoop. I'll be clearing and painting my headlights next spring when i have some time, newborn in the house makes it hard to do anything. If i can get a better shot of it, I will.

If you want the RA-R style only, then do it that way, if you want to outline every part of the car, do it that way. no need to hate the way someone else's car looks cause it doesn't follow the guidelines you set for yourself.

Just wondering if anything special had to be done in order to go around the circle of the wheel? It seems like it would bunch up because your going around a curve like that, but maybe not. I have no idea, I haven't tried it yet nor have I bought the pinstripe yet, I was just curious. Looks good though.

Actually, it doesn't bunch up. I tried it on one of my wheels and it turned out alright, even for a 2 minute "I just wanna see what it looks like" job.
