trust me, i think were the only ones that like it there
actually for the longest time i thought i was the only one cheesy enough to do that. I came across this forum and lo and behold another car has the same thing ... except i painted the letters red... perfect for this ra-r thing i'm thinking about doing
bereda 02-06-2009 08:11 AM

does this look good on 04s
04works 02-06-2009 06:12 PM

shep21 02-07-2009 11:13 PM

yesss it looks great on a hawkeye when you do all three pieces. now I have to decide if I want to paint the trip pieces black when I do this. hmmmm...

i see that the prostripe pin stripes come in mountain red and dark red, which one are you guys using?
mugenXP 03-09-2009 05:37 PM

attempting this now, i'll be back in 2-3 hours with pictures ;) (unless i get lazy)

done for 5$ as well, but 5$ CAD! aha!

also was pretty bored after getting it done, so i grabbed a spare gauge bezel and painted it silver (from the RS models)

any1 have this done on a legacy haha prob not, but just a lil curious
mugenXP 03-10-2009 12:31 AM

i just did it on my car, i spent ~4 hours from start to finish(and a few bad words here and there). i did all 3 grills though, but didn't do the top sections of the side grills. that would be too much red for my taste.

it isn't as easy as it seems to get those red lines straight. lol.
shep21 03-23-2009 02:18 PM

^agreed, its kinda tricky. I decided to prime and paint my grill pieces once I took them out :D

...the badge doesn't match, but it will be gone when I get my grill craft upper.

The black pieces look pretty good on your car. I have thought about doing the same on mine, but a glossy black.

Good work.

but a.............

I like the picture better than your grill. That has some color enhancements doesnt it?
vms150 03-23-2009 05:09 PM

Its just MS photo auto enhance to lighten up the very dark photo. The shop is dark and it looks horrible with a flash on. These are the originals, just resized, no enhancement.

thanks, I'm happy with the way it turned. I think the new grill will really bring it together, and maybe a red nd black STI badge for the corner.

...I used automotive plastic primer, and two coats of gloss black btw.
Wagonkenny 03-23-2009 08:50 PM

Hmmm thinking of doing this to my 2004 C-west grille.
Shiz36 03-25-2009 05:32 PM

Is everyone still using the Prostripe striping? I've read posts about the color being a little orange.

Just curious what exactly everyone is using these days for this mod. Thanks.
GusGus91 03-25-2009 05:39 PM

I didn't use pro stripe. I went to kragen and just got the only red they had. It looks clean. And it took about an hour to do just the center on my 06. I'm not sure if I wanna do the rest or not. I did this with a broken wrist. It looks really good.

Do you have a full frontal shot of the car? I wanna do the other 2 grills, but I'm not sure if it will be to much red on blue.

this is off topic. but did you hear/see any of the old russin missle come back to earth?

 headsup
To those that have black cars beware that the "Prostripe" pin stripe stuff in Red isn't really a true red. It has an orange tint to it and is really far off from matching the Red on the 06+ WRX calipers. I had originally done it with the Prostripe brand red and then really disliked the color. I went out and bought 3M Brand scotchlite reflective red tape, problem was i could only find it in 1" width so i had to trim it. It came out very nice and matches MUCH better with the red on the calipers. It really is not very reflective. Good luck picture were with flash.

Rexer06 05-02-2009 12:35 PM

the nose grille trim looks quite good for only certain colors... for other colors, it kinda accentuates the 'pig nose' :p

btw i dont know what you guys all did but i didnt have to take everything apart. you just need steady hands and a little patience ....well a lot of patience :D
mugenXP 05-02-2009 06:04 PM

i did the middle nose on mine but it looked kinda funny, so i went ahead and did the two side grills too, but i didn't pinstripe the top portion of the side grills though, llooks better lol
shep21 05-02-2009 06:16 PM

^i did all three as well, and at first I didn't do the top of the side pieces, but if you get real low it looks kinda funny. So I re-did them all the way around after painting my grille. check my pic taken from low to the ground a few posts up and you can see what I mean.

heres a better one though...

mugenXP 05-02-2009 07:00 PM

yeah, my car is pretty much slammed though, so you can't really tell i left the top portion out until you get up close to it and check it out.

when i have time i'll get around to doing the entire thing just so it doesn't look ghetto'd lol
wrxphantom 05-02-2009 11:02 PM

Here is my 09 wrx with the red trim on the grill

What do you guys think??

BTW that red light isn't there anymore..
mugenXP 05-02-2009 11:40 PM

the lighting on those headlights are fail

and lol @ that red light even if you already removed it

red pinstripes are nice though. 08-09 should have came with them stock.
Louie 05-04-2009 05:32 PM

I like the grill trim and the CF grill. I am still out to lunch on the LED's. The red is ok if youre pulling someone over...i suppose.

Mechie3 05-11-2009 11:31 PM

I think your car would look nice with the JDM/Euro lights. I like how it has an aggressive rear to match the front.
fearmywrx 05-12-2009 01:06 PM

i think that looks really sick

elscoobie20 07-11-2009 04:05 PM

I can't tell whether I like the LED's on the 08/09 WRX

Anyone have some step by step for the 08/09 pinstriping?

I think this looks AWESOME on all the Subies btw :D

SO thats how they do it. I was looking to buy that part on eBay but never could find one.:)
Any chance if you guys can get it to light up?
Epic_Beck 07-12-2009 06:09 PM

just got done doing mine, took about an hour after i removed the grill and the mesh. only takes so long if you want to make sure you do it right. i'll post some detailed pics of what i did later. very subtle but a nice touch i feel, breaks up the all black.

i tried doing this on my 06....i must just be slow b/c i can't get the pinstriping around the bends without creasing(sp) the stripe. i'm slow i know. i want to do it though...i may try again when i install my supertones
Epic_Beck 07-13-2009 10:40 AM

yeah it just takes some serious patience. the hardest part with mine was the corners in which i tapered it off towards the corner then used a back side of a butter knife to help press it into the corner. the part that hung off the back i then cut with a razor blade and folded inside. i also removed the mesh grill while installing which is a must.

tapering

and the inside

in other news i finished my two sides:
