Usgp Nasioc Meet.
Whos going?? Who wants to meet?? What night??? What Bar

I was thinking I would set something up at one of the local bars like "Have a nice day cafe" Get some booths or a VIP room. Or get a private room at St.Elmo.
DILLIGAF Racing 04-04-2005 07:02 PM

when is it this year?
finnRex 04-04-2005 07:07 PM

June 20th, sucka!;)

I'd like to meet up, but it's not too often I get to see my family. But I will enjoy Kimi winning;)

Mika
DILLIGAF Racing 04-04-2005 07:16 PM

argh, why do I think I will be at the track that weekend for a DE
mno 04-04-2005 08:48 PM

I think at one time nasioc people had a area at the track.
DELTA_Rotary 04-04-2005 09:05 PM

Has anybody setup a Subaru Corral this year? I know there were a block of seats last year that were reserved and I had a blast.
mno 04-04-2005 09:08 PM

Lets get some tickets in the H section. I have at least 5 going.
Lets get some tickets in the H section. I have at least 5 going.
Last year the Corral is what made the trip great. We got to park on the track on the back straight. It was easy to get to your seats with food/beer vendors right behind the stands. Im hoping to here word on a corral this year.

Wasn't it on a holiday weekend before? So it could have been possible to be on a Monday. Not that Fathers Day isn't a "holiday", just one made up by Hallmark
Fubawu 04-05-2005 04:10 PM

I am going to the Montreal GP the weekend before.... Now thats a party!!!

I think it was last year(2004). I could be wrong though. It very well may have been like the week before or after too. Can't remember. Darn senility  But seriously, every GP race at Indy since 2000(when it came back to the U.S.) has been on a Sunday. I somehow got it logged into my mind that it was the 20th of June.

Yeah it was on Fathers Day because I got my dad tickets and took him.
DILLIGAF Racing 04-05-2005 10:53 PM

I think that weekend is fathers day weekend this year too.
artkevin 04-05-2005 11:50 PM

I'll be up there and try to meet up with the Subie crew if possible. If any of you are using Grand Prix Tours you'll see me there Friday and Saturday night at the art shows. I would also like to invite all of to my private art show in the downtown Hyatt lobby the whole weekend.

Streetman has organized the Indy Meet with the Car Corral, group seating, karting, etc. for the past three or four years. I haven't seen anything in here or over in MWIC about doing it this year, though.

Man I hope he does it again this year. I had a great time last year with the corral.
gtguy 04-07-2005 12:28 PM

Nice site, Kevin. Impressive art, too. Unfortunately, I'm driving in for the qualifying/race on Sunday morning because of my vexation at the extortion perpetrated by the Indianapolis hotel industry (three-day minimum, four times the normal rate...I don't think so).

Now, I can blow off practice, because nobody really practices that hard any more because they're saving the cars, and ignore the Saturday qualifying. It's great. And it isn't even the money that makes me annoyed, just the shameful way they take advantage of race fans. Grrrr!

Kevin
finnRex 04-07-2005 06:49 PM

Kevin(gtguy), I found a hotel room for $120/night. Single queen room. I don't think there's a way around the 3 night minimum though. Check out Signature Inn on the west side of town. Off of Washington street. Here's the address/phone number...

7610 Old Trails Rd.
Indianapolis, Indiana 46219
Phone: 317-353-6966

This place is about 20 minutes from the race track(without race traffic, of course). It's on the other side of town though(Washington and I-465). Hope that helps:).

Mika
artkevin 04-07-2005 07:30 PM

Thanks gt, I was looking into hotels about a month ago and almost crapped myself. I luckily am letting my art pay for a couple of hotel rooms. I am staying at the Omni North (soon to be Hilton) on the far north side of town. I stayed there last year too and its was full of race fans so i guess we spread out as far as we have to get a room.
kp
gtguy 04-08-2005 11:34 AM

Thanks, Finn. I stayed at the Days Inn downtown last year, which was certainly convenient, and $100 per night after I overheard the desk clerk give that rate to some walk-ins on Saturday afternoon, and demanded the same rate. It won't be that big of a hardship to drive in on Sunday a.m. It beats the hell out of being extorted. Besides, I'm not the one who'll be driving.

The hotels kill us every year 595 at the Embassy suites.
The hotels kill us every year 595 at the Embassy suites.
do they kiss you, or give you complimentary women?
rbehny 04-11-2005 12:19 AM

uh at that price there'd be 20 people in that room... no matter what.
artkevin 04-11-2005 09:37 AM

$595 a night or a for the weekend? Wait, I just did the math, that just high no matter what.
KP
mno 04-12-2005 08:13 AM

595.00 per night with a three night minimum. We do get a exe suite that is 1000+ sq feet. We go with 5 guys and try to meet as many Columbian women as possible.

PLus the hotel has open bar every night from 5:30-7:30pm so we make as much money back as possible.

If anyone wants to meet us for free drinks PM me.

See you there.

mno 04-12-2005 04:35 PM

How much did you get charged for rooms at the Omni??

I plan on taking a look at some of your art when in town. Perhaps I will buy some I need to decorate my new house.

mno
artkevin 04-12-2005 05:54 PM

I got them for a price of a painting; I traded straight up 1 painting for 2 rooms 3 nights. Let me know if you want one, there is always a NASIOC discount. I hope to meet a bunch a people this year, I usually am so damned busy I never get a chance to socialize.
KP
mno 04-13-2005 10:53 AM

Will do.... Post or PM the times you plan on showing.

I have been looking around the other forums and can't find any info on the coral.

mno
artkevin 04-13-2005 11:26 AM

Ill start a thread in June with dates and times.
scoobyRx 04-14-2005 02:06 AM

I also posted this in Midwest forum but, I emailed Indy and apparantly we don't Streetman to set anything up. This is their reply:

"Thank you very much for the email and we will be continuing the Car Corral for this years United States Grand Prix. In terms of securing a parking pass for the Corral, all you need to do is call (800)-822-INDY and let them know that you would like a Car Corral Parking pass with your tickets."
mno 04-14-2005 07:59 AM

Thanks for your help.

So... Would anyone like to meet downtown on Saturday night??
citra 04-28-2005 10:25 AM

Where is the best place to park during the race? assuming that the corral will not be available this year. I'm planning to buy the tickets today if possible. thanks.
artkevin 04-28-2005 10:33 AM

I park the whole weekend right by the big water tower thing with the pitstop painting on the side of it. Its $50 for all 3 days and its easy in easy out. I sit in the NW Vista though so its about as far of a walk as you can get but at least you get to pass all the vendors on the out side.
citra 04-28-2005 10:54 AM

Thanks but the explanation doesn't do me any good since I have never been there before. :) If you know the lot number, it'll be great. I'm planning to buy couple of tickets on the J section.
artkevin 04-28-2005 12:03 PM

I think it is lot 3 by the map on www.brickyard.com,. Its off of W 16th which is a major feeder to the speedway. Its damned far from stand J though. But like I said, easy in easy out. 2 years ago after the race I was on a highway with very little traffic in less then 15 minutes of being in the car. At Texas Motorspeedway I have sat in the car for over an hour waiting to get out of the parking lot.

Me and my friend are wanting to go, but we can't stretch $85 for seats in the stands. Isn't there lawn seats on the infield available? I remember walking around last year and seeing people doing that.

Any help?

Buy scalped tickets and save big money. I have yet to pay more than $40 for Sundays entry. $25 for Friday and Saturday combined.

imo lawn seats are the best cuz you can get soo close...
MattDell 05-31-2005 09:55 PM

Got any good strategies for the scalpers? I've never dealt with one.

And, yeah, lawn seats are bitchin'. We had tickets on turn 10 last year and ended up walking around to the lawn anyway.

You can buy on the street/road leading to the track or as you walk up right in front of the track. USGP has yet to sell out. Tickets are plentifull.

As obvious as these guys are I am sure it's legal.

We drove up to the roaddside vendors on Sunday morning and haggled with them. By then they need to sell.
artkevin 06-06-2005 12:52 PM

If anyone is still looking for hotel space the Hilton North still has rooms open. Just a heads up. :)
kp
grandpa rex 06-06-2005 02:31 PM

It's a bit out of town but I got a room for $55.70 per nite in a place called Seymour IN. It's right off I65 South of Indy by about an hour. If you can stand to miss the Indy nightlife and can stay reaonably sober, it's not a bad deal.

Plus, we're splitting it 3 ways.

More $$ for beer. Mmmmmmmm. Beer
scoobyRx 06-08-2005 04:41 AM

the Car Corral thread is here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=751357&page=1&pp=25

there was no organizing it as in years past. IMS is taking care of it and it's still free.

The scalpers are everywhere (it's legal there) and most tickets can be had for face value and less. Except for H & J sections--those are usually at premium $$ cuz they are sold out. Can't get into Corral with scalper tix tho. :(
MJU1983 06-08-2005 10:35 PM

Me and Jim (mr2guru) will be there again this year... Be on the lookout for 05 CGM STi

Is this meeting parent friendly? I am going with my dad and he is on the conservative side. On a plus note I might be able to give rides in his 997.

Jon

PS: I am 22, but he is paying for me so I have to include him.

sbomm 06-14-2005 10:33 PM

Don't want to pay high hotel rates, staying just one night? Just bring a tent and park in one of the lots on the west side of the track. I think it was $20 to park overnight at the Coca Cola lot in 2003. Meet up with friends you haven't met yet around campfires and drink up.
Scalped tickets are the way to go!
If you have never been there before go in on Friday or Saturday, nothing is reserved. Scout out where you want to sit. Then go shopping for tickets on Saturday night or Sunday morning. In 2001 I got a $150 ticket for $75. 2003 I payed $100 for a great seat in the J stand, $85 face price.
