I hope this never happens again...and, especially not this week!

I think not sure but I think you have some camber, caster, toe issues with your drivers side wheel.....Oh yeah and you only have half a wheel

Those are some pretty crazy pictures.... good story, though.

Of course Jamie...all of the local boys have been voting! :D

Good, let's keep it up!
BROKENWRX 07-31-2006 09:29 PM

I just saw McCrae/Grist's car up here in castaic driving on the road. Looked like the car was on its way back from a test session.

I'm all for pat and nat but being that there's an Island boy racing ( ACP) I have to vote that the evo will finish well
4) ACP
3) Matt Iorio
2) Pat
1) McCrae
REDrum 07-31-2006 10:20 PM

IMO, everyone who has been invited to the x-games has already won!! This is an amazing PR opportunity for rally; perhaps a huge spring board.

My fav? Hell I really like all the guys I've met who are running; Pat, Mat, Travis, Christian, Ramana, Nathalie, Paul, Ken, Nicky, ACP, Marc. and I wish them all great success. But, as to who will place where, ummmm....? Predictions are pretty damn tough with this event. This ain't a regular 120+ mile rally where stage attrition can push up, and you only win token prize money and contingency. As JB Niday noted on NPR, the glory points and sponsorship opportunities are potentially huge coming out of the X-games But, years of experience does play a big part into the outcome of any competition, and Colin/Nicky and Paul/Jeff teams seem to have the most of it going into this weeks big show. With sponsorship of rally being so lean in US, the real winners of the x-games will be determined months and quarters in the future.
tora 08-01-2006 01:14 AM

REDrum, good point that this is indeed a great event for Rallying as a sport in North America and I hope the spin-off is beneficial to the sport and the teams that have been battling so hard to make it popular. (But I still hope Pat wins).

Andrew Pinker has withdrawn due to financial reasons. 3rd alternate Wyeth Gubelmann is taking his place.

Go Pat and ACP

is that official?

EDIT:

i see that it is, thanks for the FOC link in the other thread.

tora 08-01-2006 11:50 AM

That's too bad that Pinker had to withdraw, too bad more sponsorship money and time to get sponsorship money wasn't available.
outback2.5HO 08-01-2006 01:08 PM

Any of these guys can win on any given day..It's tough to pick a winner

The "forest stages" being run are not quite in the forest, and more like ORV/jeep trails than rally stages.. That's where the attrition will be. Very rough, and easy to destroy a car if you are pushing too hard..and they'll all be pushing hard.

A handful of the invitees have some local knowledge of those roads, which will help them to make it through intact. Regardless of what goes on in the forest with the stage times, the scoring is supposed to balance things out so everyone is close when they get to the Super Special.

Based on Experience and O/A results, the top 5 might be (random order):

McCrae
Richard
O'Sullivan
Iorio
Pastrana

Anything can, and will happen out there, so it should be very fun to watch.
Congrats to everyone that made it to the X Games, sorry that Pinker had to withdraw.. This event should help take rally to the next level in the US. :D
dentsport 08-01-2006 02:47 PM

We need to add Lagemann/Fennell to the poll.
lummer shawn 08-01-2006 03:52 PM
We need to add Lagemann/Fennell to the poll.
it would only allow them to put 10 people in the poll
ACP is also not in the poll.
EH339 08-01-2006 09:33 PM

I'm voting for Lagemann/Fennell in the Escort with the fresh turbo for first place. I've got to go with the local talent. :)
XenoWolf 08-01-2006 09:49 PM

I really hope that this prompts McRae into running a few national events over here in his free time... now THAT would be awesome. Afterall, why let his Impreza go to waste?
WhistlerRally 08-01-2006 10:23 PM

His impreza will not go to waste ;) The reason Colin is over here is because of the huge marketing potential of X Games...he does have a new game coming out after all, and he's one of the best known international drivers because of his successful rally game. It was a great pick for attracting the "kids" to the sport.

Go Pat! Go ACP!

I guess if he decides not to utilize the Impreza anymore, it'll probably end up with Travis, Ken or Tanner.

Wow...who would have thought Pastrana would be the underdog.

Leading the rally after four stages, and only got 5% of the vote.

Richard is over a minute back...doesn't look good for him.
XenoWolf 08-02-2006 03:56 PM

Remember that they're going to shave down the overall times going into the SSS, so the top-5 so far would only be less than 8-seconds apart. Pat would only be 20 seconds down... that is if I understand this right.

Correct.

But unless a driver makes a HUGE mistake, 2-3 seconds are all they're going to be able to make up on the Super Special.

There's two days of practice on the HD stage...so I'd expect everybody to grouped VERY tightly in their times for the last stage.

I'm not going to put huge mistakes past any of these drivers... the pressure will probably be immense once they launch into the Home Depot Center.

Agreed.

I think being able to handle the pressure is going to play a big part.

Of course, the guys running 1-2 probably have the most experience with this kind of publicity and pressure.
greg donovan 08-02-2006 04:46 PM

hopefully this performance will put an end to the peple questioning travis' talent. he and colin are in near identical cars. sure if colin hadn't gotten a flat at the end of 4 he may have beaten travis. but hey, thats rallying.
XenoWolf 08-02-2006 06:09 PM

Yeah, that's probably the best thing about this. I've never doubted that Travis had talent behind the wheel, and like you said hopefully this solidifies everyone elses opinions as well.

Also, Dougie rolled his SRT-4 on SS5... he must have been going too f4sT4r.
kotaro 08-02-2006 06:58 PM

I have no idea about the spec of the cars involved, but I guess they're much closer to GrN than WRCars (specially diff/gearbox and chassis/suspension-wise). If that's the case I think pat should win, and mcrae could finish close behind.

I don't know about that...The only one who has been able to beat a SRT/VT car on stage is O'Sullivan.
RB5 Clone 08-02-2006 07:14 PM

the VT SportsCar STIs are full spec Open class cars, with best of available mechanicals and carbon fiber everything, they are NOT "GroupN+" cars, they are the Real Deal.

Maybe the WRC cars are a bit ahead, but the VTCar cars seem to be holding their own at XG.

DG

WOOT! for the elderly Hyndai of Choiniere/Becker, they are the oldest guys in the XGames. Currently solidifying their hold on 4th place. Age Rules!

I had no idea. Well anyway my point was directed towards the driving style required to take the most out of the car rather than the car's performance...What I mean is, even if those cars have A8 or near WRC performance I'd guess that the driving style required to get everything out of the car would be somewhat different.

I have the impression (maybe wrong) that colin would have to change his driving style a lot (being more tidy?) if the cars behave like an A8.

By the way, I've never seen an open class car go by so I repeat, I'm just guessing :D

colin has no trouble adjusting his driving style. these cars dont need tidy driving to be fast.

remember a ton of his wins came way back in the old manually shifted GC chassis impreza. and they didnt have all the fancy diffs that the WRC cars have now.

travis has run jemba notes for a couple years now while i believe this is the first time colin has used them.

colin will have the lead by the end of the day.

Meet the Meat of SUBARU Rally Team USA

I found this at the Rally America site:
The most interesting, rally-like moment of the day has got to go to Jon Nichols and Carl Schenk who hit a rock in that last few feet of SS8. Just prior to the flying finish, a rock that had nearly claimed all cars prior, was hit by Nichols, causing a broken tie rod. The team, through inventive rally thinking, went to work - Jon turning the wheel manually while Karl manned the emergency brake in an effort to avoid the cliffs just a few feet away. Spectators also helped save the day for the team by pushing. Ultimately, Nichols and Schenk got through the finish and will continue on!! If anyone thought 4 wheel drive was the only action in town, would have been impressed at this site. Once the team got through the control, the entire body around them roared and clapped for them. Go 2 Wheel Drive!!!
I think as far as 2WD goes there was a bigger deal than that on stage 8 :)

I turned it on because I wasn't sure when the rally coverage was (I don't pay good attention) and it was nice to see a few rally clips, but when they said there was a CHANCE he was going for the double back flip, I couldn't believe.

That guy is absolutely nuts. Christian, you're insane for getting in the car with him.

When I was watching the preview, I swore it was a stupid move because if he crashed that would mean the absolute end of his X Games IMO.

But then you've got to think, this is what he does, this is what he loves. Without sounding cliche, it's the friggin X Games- THAT'S the stuff you have to do at the X Games.

My mom was even watching it along with me and we were both cheering after he landed it - absolutely incredible to see it done. What was the comment at the end, "4 years ago we started to see the first back flips ever, and Pastrana comes along and does a double..."

And that judge SHOULD be fired for NOT giving a 100.

Rally time!!!!!!!!!

it seemed like travis felt that if he crashed it'd have been a bit more severe then the end of x games for him, that was truely death defiance at it's finest.
Sideshowbob 08-05-2006 04:27 PM

Yeah, he easily could have broken his back trying the double back flip. He was wearing a old school kidney belt and a chest protector under the jersey, whereas most freestyle guys prefer to go sans chest protector cause it restricts them.

Travis is truely talented.
