Wagon Spoiler?

Anyone put a spoiler on their wagon other than stock? Got pics? The waist spoiler always looks good.
| lnin0 | 09-02-2004 11:01 PM |
lots of looks but no pics. kind of hoping to see someone with the dolphin spoiler on their wagon.

I have the JDM/EDM waist spoiler on my wagon, but I don't know how to post pics on this site. It does look sweet though!

Langston Subaru sells (or used to sell) what I think is technically a replica waist spoiler. Was a reasonable price ($200 or less???).

Anthony, it's the jdm/edm one.. and NO i will not give it to you :p you coming to the fairfax meet today?

I can't... I'm flying out to rochester this afternoon.... I'll be at the next DCAWD meet though

That looks pretty good... very clean. So is that the waist spoiler SOA sells through their dealers?
| prelude/2.5rs | 09-04-2004 12:05 AM |
That's the Canadian OEM waist spoiler. I heard you can get those relatively cheap. It has a "potato wedge" shape to it and it really doesn't have the aggressive look like the JDM/EDM wing. It's cheaper though. That's a good thing.

theres a replica wagon waist spoiler that can be bought cheap. i forgot which site sells it, but you can run a search here to find it. iirc it costs around 150 bucks unpainted?
i think the link might be in the wagon thread, or in the wagon thread on wrxforum

Fixed your link to Xcceleration, and saved us all a couple of mouseclicks. I've looked at this Liberal spoiler 100 times.....if any vendor sold it in the US, I'd own it. I'm afraid to special order something from Japan that might take 2 months to receive and still come in broken.

I think I'd be happy enough with one of these (below) supposed Canadian market waist spoilers. Anybody got a Subaru part number?

I would like to see pics of the Dolphin kit on a car also. Somebody has to have it.

It took me over a year to find the waist band spoiler. I got on ebay for about US$200. I can't find another one because I am planning on buying a 2006 Wrx wagon. I probably have to uninstall it before i sell it.

I saw a euro spoiler from within the wagon owners thread, It reminded me ALOT of the small wing found on the saabaru 92x wagon.. I tried so hard to find it, never was able to!
I've got a 2.5i wagon, I badly want a rear wing, but a small one like the UK one so it won't interfere with my snowboard box! =)

OMG. We need some more pix of that. I honestly can't decide whether I love it or hate it. It's either so incredibly riced out or so totally trackalicious. I'm boggled.
So, if it is a track machine, what wing is that and how much did it help? If it's never seen a track, WTF were you thinking.

Nice, what'd it take off your average lap times?
| okiedude | 12-20-2007 04:43 PM |
It is a little tough to tell because we switched to Yokohama slicks (from Hoosier R6's) the same time we put the wing on. Combined slicks and wing dropped lap times by over 2 seconds. This was a late season change, last 3 races. There is probably some room left in those lap times, but at 48 years old, I'm not as fast as I was when I was 20-lol! This was the first year of development for the wagon. Before that it was a track day car/daily driver until 2006 when it just saw track days. There is still plenty of work left to do, including a new engine for next season, as we ran with the original engine all this year (34,000 miles, the rings are getting a little tired, blowby is my friend).

I've recently seen several waist spoilers on ebay sold by seller 'racing_raven'. The pic of the spoiler on the auction page looks like the oem waist spoiler, but I emailed the seller and he said it was aftermarket. Has anyone purchased this item from the seller? If so, how does it look/fit??? I'd prefer to purchase an oem spoiler, it's it's way too expensive for just for vanity. It's hard to pass up this one for ~ $130.00 (buy it now $69.99 plus $59.99 S&H) if it's a good fit.

correct me if im wrong, but the idea of vortex generators is to keep airflow going smoothly down the back of the car, reducing overall drag and making the wing more effective. with the generators in that position its really isnt helping anything

With a wagon-y shape, you want the airflow over the stop of the car to separate cleanly and not try to "wrap" down around the top of the hatch and flow down the back window. This is why the overall shape of that spoiler is good, it provides a sharp edged change in direction that the air won't stick to well enough to make the turn. In a VERY rough approximation, what vortex generators do is increase the flow velocity of the air near to the surface. One of the consequences is that the airflow will "wrap" around corners better. So by adding the vortex generators, you're pulling air down off the top of the car and stuffing it into the void behind the car, which is a bad thing for a wagon.
Note that it's exactly the same effect when used at the trailing edge of the roof of a sedan. It just happens to be desirable to do that on a sedan to get the air to stay laminar over the rear glass and down onto the trunk.
