April 8th-9th. Who's going?
Phil and I will be there co-driving in STX.
We're staying at the Hampton in Jonesboro.
I hear the area's dry, but never fear, we'll bring enough tequila with us for everyone! Bwahahaha! Probably a few bottles of the Croy-brewed "Subaru Simcoe Ale" too.

You know I will be there. I have to see if I can beat Corey this year. ;) Jason and Alex will also be down driving Jason's car in STX. We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Jonesboro right next door to your hotel Jen, or should I say Shawna. :D

Tommy and I are in. I'm not sure where we are staying as another local driver made the reservations for us. I will be packing in beer and liquor and drinking it as quickly as possible.

Hey, "last minute weight reduction" totally defines the hardcore autocrosser... I mean, after you've stripped the car down as much as possible, been on the DiSimo Nationals Diet for a few months, how else are you going to get that last little push over the edge... you know, turn the weight reduction up to 11... :)

Good point! Of course none of us could explain why he looked so bad on the second day of Nationals. :)
I'll be there for both events. The car won't really be ready, but I wouldn't miss a Pro that's almost in my backyard. Plus, the Tour last year was great, so I decided to be there for any events they would have this year.

so is it true that RBV can kill you? something about elevated blood pressure (all that caffeine) and thinning your blood out (from the alcohol and other energy boosters in the redbull) causing blood vessels in your brain to go *POP*. urban legend? should we get myth busters in on this one?

I think we've been over this already, but at least three unindentified Atlanta NT competitors who may/may not be on this board and one Honda-Tech moderator had a RBV chugging contest at Andretti Speedlab kart track (I may know who the "winner" was... but rest assured, there was no winner. Just losers!) before going karting. Said Honda-Tech moderator pulled off the mother of all punts putting both an elitist **** and an innocent sober bystander into the wall in one fell swoop. The RBV Challenge participants were then promptly informed that they were done "racing" for the evening due to "rough driving."

Awesome that you are willing to step up. Do the best you can with your local events and make it to the Peru Pro if you can. It's good to see how they do it at the national level, but that doesn't necessarily make it right for your program. Cater to the locals first, with the knowledge of how they do it on a larger scale.

Grady told me and Tommy a little bit about the course design. Apparently there is a good turn-out after the launch where AWD and power will be an advantage. Something about a 700' run with lots of full-gas stuff. That was good to hear because we wouldn't have a chance in BSP against the bimmers on last weekend's course...

Saturday results are up. Looking like a very close STX class. If my rough calculations are right, as results stand now, top 3 in STX would make the Challenge, with Chang in 4th being very close to a Challenge spot.
And I'm getting a rude awakening in open. Sitting DFL at the moment. But hey, that's part of why I switched - I needed to kick my ass into gear. :)

Wasn't much to watch really as far as my performance in the challenge went. Blew out in the first round by about .1 after getting paired against one of the 4 shifter karts that made the challenge. Must have been tough for him to sit for 6+ seconds at the light after I got my start, 39.2 dialin versus 32.9. I fell .4 behind on the left and only made up .3 on the right. I think my total loss margin was .08 something.
Tire plug held up fine for the Bonus and Super challenge runs. Now we'll have to go get it patched the right way. Thanks to Billy for hearing the car hissing in impound after Sunday morning runs and helping me to find the hole and a REALLY big thanks to Chang for having a tire plug kit on site to help me get it fixed. That pavement was BRUTAL on tires.
1.5 seconds from first to eight place in STX this weekend. I thought that was pretty impressive. And it's good to see an M3 out at a Pro Solo. I think that car, especially with that driver will be darn tough to beat at a Tour but if we have a real launch area like a normal Pro course I think the WRX still has an advantage in the Pro. And if the JCW can figure out how to get the power down and stop spinning the tires I think that car will be a handful as well.
We got home around 3AM, had the trailer unloaded by 3:15 and were asleep by 3:20. We passed you and Billy as you were getting off for gas just south of Effingham, IL and made pretty good time back to Cleveland, I think the trip back took just 10:45. My gas mileage may have suffered but at least I got a few hours of sleep before heading into work this morning.

Well, Brian Fitzpatrick ended up taking STX by 0.108 seconds over Phil. That close of a margin made Phil the 20th qualifier for the Challenge, I believe it was. Phil's first Super Challenge appearance! Woohoo! :)
As for me, I'm pretty darn pleased with how I did this weekend. Well, on Sunday anyway; let's not dwell too much on Saturday afternoon's performance. :) I still finished in DFL, but with less than 1.5 seconds separating Brian in first place and me in 8th (last), it was a TIGHT class! 5 classes had more time than that separating first and second! I'm definitely very happy with how I did, especially when I finally turned in that 39 on the right on my very last run. Woohoo. :alien:
Speaking of tight classes, BSP and L2 were also extremely tight classes. The margin to get in the Super Challenge was only 0.4xx and BSP had 4 competitors make it into the Challenge!! Nice job Tommy and Joel! Only 4 spots for the Ladies Challenge and the tight class in L2 meant that 3 of those were L2 ladies, including our very own Karen. I wish I had gotten to see more of Karen's performance in the Ladies Challenge, but I was running back and forth between grid and paddock, trying to make sure everything was set for Phil and put back away my helmet and shoes after my abysmal Bonus Challenge appearance. On that note, I'm certainly glad I learned the lesson that a half-second margin is NOTHING and that you can't go at all easy (even if the half-second is on the slow side!) at a Bonus Challenge instead of at a Super or Ladies Challenge! :o Much better to learn that lesson NOW rather than when it counts! :p
It was good to meet ratt_finkel at last! I hope you had a good time this weekend. I wanted to tell you, 6th in GS at a Pro is nothing to sneeze at - I thought you did very well!
All in all, I had a great weekend! It's been said before, but the community support in Walnut Ridge is absolutely AMAZING!! I almost fell on the ground when I saw broadcast trucks for 3 different radio stations roll in on Saturday morning!! They had several different food vendors come out - the homemade gumbo and jambalaya that the one place sold was a very welcome change from the typical solo weekend of just burgers and hot dogs (when you're lucky!). I regret I didn't get a chance to walk around the whole spectator area,, but I know they also had a car show going on in the spectator area. And apparently they even had a rock climbing wall set up. I bet that would have been fun. :) They had grandstands set up, and TONS of folks coming out to watch. Lots of families. You might think that'd be a safety nightmare, but it was actually way BETTER than most ProSolo events. They had barrels with ropes set up that separated the spectator area and grid. With these designated spectator areas, it made it really easy to keep separated the spectators (including the fellow competitors during their rest times) from congregating in grid and the yellow zone behind the trailer like normally happens at a Pro. Kudos to an awesome job by the local region and by the local community!! It may be a LOOOOOOONG drive (I made it to work this morning, but boy, am I half-dead!!), but if they have another Pro next year, I feel confident we'll go back.
Even if the pavement is harsher on tires than any other surface I've ever run on. So harsh that during my final Sunday morning runs, I apparently slashed the right rear tire with one of the little rocks that protudes from the surface. Luckily, Billy and Angie noticed the hissing noise during impound and even more luckily, Chang actually had a plug kit with him and we were able to get it plugged and holding air again in plenty of time before the Challenge (under Karen's watchful eye to make sure we didn't "accidentally" switch in some R-compounds or something! ;) ) Thank you so much to everyone!! You guys were great! I was really starting to freak out; here it was Phil's first Challenge and I was worried the car wasn't going to be able to run! But that's one of the great things about this sport - everyone came together and helped us get it fixed.
Anyway, time for me to fall asleep on my desk here at work now...
Edit: d'oh, looks like Jason and Phil both beat me to posting while I was drowsing along typing. :D
I'm proud to say that for the Saturday morning runs, on the right side I had the 3rd fastest time, and would've been 3rd overall for the morning had I not hit a cone on the left. Unfortunately, I did worse and everyone else got better.
I was somewhat dissapointed with the course. The turnout had to be exactly 60' after the start. And it was easily the tightest, slowest course I've ever driven on. I was shifting into first for the last pin cone into the finish.
I know I drove the best I could've and probably even better. But I, and the car could not keep on with the mini's on this course. I was getting MASSIVE wheelspin on the turn out and two corner exits.
It was nice Meeting Billy, Jason, Alex, Phil, Jen and Phil and everyone else. I had a blast. I'm looking forward to a much wider and faster Pro at Mineral Wells next month.
EDIT: I'd also like to personally thank Phil and Jen for taking me under their wing and showing me the ropes at my first Pro. You guys are awesome! I hope I'll see you in Mineral Wells!

This past weekend was a roller coaster of emotions. I started out driving like crap, and still feeling like I had no control of the car. I finally settled down on Saturday afternoon and ripped off the fast time in BSP on the left side. Going into Sunday all the top BSP drivers had one good side and one crappy side. Tommy got a "good enough" run on his bad side to move into the lead by the smallest of margins. Lee improved slightly. I still never got a right side run worth a damn and dropped from 2nd to 4th after's Dan (Lee's co-driver) ripped off a fantastic re-run on the left side and bumped me out of the money. I feel like I should have won the class, but never pulled my head out on the right side. Given 6 chances, you should do it right at least once...
BSP was so tight that I was .379 out of the lead and sat in 4th place, but I made the challenge. I finally put two good runs together (including my first good right side run) and beat Aaron Buckley in the first round of the challenge. That won me the priveledge of running against Eric Strelnieks in the 2nd round. He and Andy Hollis were probably to of the only drivers carrying sand into the challenge. He had a slight lead on me after 1st runs and then extended it to beat me by .444 overall, though I consider that to be a good drive given Eric credentials. It took me until the challenge to start driving but I finally feel like I got the hang of things.
Tommy, Karen, and I got back to Atlanta late, and I dropped Karen off at the airport early. I'm trying not to fall asleep in any of my 5 meetings today...
