Exactly. Wait, what? I mean no.

Portugal was 2 weeks ago. Argentina is 2 weeks coming.

You could watch some of the enormously sideways action from Portugal if you wanted to DL it...

DOH! Argentina was what I meant.. Thats what I get for not looking at the calendar. lol...

I'm now dl'ing rally magazines as I have already watched every rally from this season twice.

Except for Portugal. But I bet you knew that! haha

As far as ep6 goes -

Who gives a rats ass about some ponce in the fiesta class. What the hell was that. Oh well.
darknightohio 04-17-2007 11:53 PM

I have to agree, the fiesta portion was just a filler it seems...other than that it was a good way to end the series. All in all it has to be one of the best automotive series I have seen to date. :)

did any one catch what their handling problem/snake was?
williaty 04-18-2007 01:51 AM
did any one catch what their handling problem/snake was?
I'm obviously not a WRC level suspension expert. However, based on Petter's comment in an earlier episode that the problem was only coming on 10-12km into the stage, and the Engineer's comment in this episode that they had a "strange friction problem", it sounds very likely that as the dampers heated up and got worked hard, they were having one of the fluids or greases in the dampers change properties and the damper was then behaving out of spec.

Which would be utter living hell to catch because 1) it wouldn't show up on a dyno 2) it wouldn't show up on a quick blat around a test circuit and 3) buy the time you got the damper off the car and onto a shock dyno the problem could have disappeared.

Episode 6 is now also online at www.Subaru-Impreza.de.
jblaine 04-18-2007 12:26 PM

FWIW...

My coworker got a DMCA/MPAA warning from his ISP for downloading this (episode 3) in the US.

Lame.

I'm going to stick to the torrents. They're so compressed of that site the quality is severely lacking.
theicewall 04-18-2007 02:45 PM

I just don't understand how petter goes from driving like crap to stage wins without any changes to the car, but then complains of handling issues with similar or the same set up only a stage or two earlier. I'm starting to think that yes the car had his problems, but it may really just be in Petter's head... Petter may be the snake.
williaty 04-18-2007 03:28 PM

There were times when he got better right after a component change. For all we know, they were also making easy changes like damping without bothering to put it in the docu. For that matter, a lot of it seemed to be Step 1) car has problem Step 2)Petter has an off Step 3) Problem is resolved Step 4) Petter no longer trusts the car and drives slowly Step 4) Petter decides he likes the car and starts to push Step 5) GOTO Step 1.

Also, they were constantly fighting with Pirelli, who knows if the stages where he was fast they actually gave him the right tires, with the right cuts, with the right pressures for once?

That being said, yeah, some of the time he was just stressed and off the pace, but with the season that car was giving him...?
vaj 04-18-2007 03:54 PM

If the face on the Pirelli Tire Tech says anything about their attitude with only ONE WRC contract.....

Not sure what they'll look like with the ENTIRE WRC field to serve. That guy seemed like a pompous you know what to me. The very fact that they had Paul in the tent cutting tires was wild!
williaty 04-18-2007 05:31 PM

When are they going to be the sole supplier for WRC? I thought BFG had the market?

On Edit: For people like me, here's what's going on with tyres. Looks like Michelin-BFG refused to play politics by bidding on F1, so FIA gave Pirelli sole rights to WRC out of spite.
spdracr00 04-18-2007 05:36 PM

seems bfg's contract was only for this year, as of next year its all pirelli. seems some very large sums of money bid-wise happened. oh well at least it will be an even field next year with everyone on crappy tires..
theicewall 04-18-2007 06:00 PM

OMG.... its going to be a race of who doesn't get a blow out or skid off a mountain next season.
vaj 04-18-2007 07:24 PM

^^^ Exactly. I, for one, think that Subaru may have an slight "advantage" as they were the only major WRC contract for Pirelli recently. Well, except for Galli. Well, as much of an "advantage" as any team could have by using what appears to be an inferior tire (to the BFG's.)

I predict messier rallies for 2008-2010 with plently of "stink face" from Marcus. What did another board members daughter call him? I believe it was 'The Complainer'

but he IS fast, eh?

<still sad that this documentary is finished. As painful as it was to watch, a part of me REALLY enjoyed it.
chimchimm5 04-19-2007 01:38 AM

Any other torrents for EP5? I've been without internet access for over a week so I can't get from demonoid anymore.
Ghosthound 04-19-2007 02:04 AM

im also sad its over... i want to buy the series now. even though i have all 6 episodes on my comp, the quality isnt as good as it would be if it was on dvd.

Keep an eye on Demonoid on Fridays. Thats usually when they open registrations, I think once a month. It well worth joining.

A ponce = a pimp. Try using 'prat' (= idiot) instead. :D

Great series this was. Too bad it was a disaster season for Subaru. Things seem better this year so hopefully a few wins come out of it at least.

Petter is a very good driver, but he lets the "car is crap" attitude get to him too much. He then pushes the car too much and runs into things like rocks and fences. I like the guy, but he needs to start just getting finishes and not losing tons of time on one stage, then going out and crashing the next.
LastResort 04-21-2007 04:05 PM

I think there is something to the old say "To finish first, you must first finish."

I think it's more than that. In one leg he used the spare transmission and complained that it made the car handle worse, so they switched back to the original. Then the switched back to the transmission he said he disliked because it was worse and he set two fastest stage times. That doesn't make sense mechanically. I agree that he definitely does overdrive the car to compensate, and I hope that this season the car doesn't require overdriving to be competitive.. it seems however that when Petter is on pace he loves the car.. I dont know for sure if he is on pace solely because he is overdriving the car. Who knows anymore.. lol

Well yeah, that is what I'm saying. The car is fine, its his poor attitude that is causing their current form.
LastResort 04-27-2007 09:49 AM

If the car was fine, they wouldn't be having the sporadic results, breakages, and mechanical DNF from all of the drivers during those episodes. I'm sure it is partly an attitude problem, but it's more than just that. Subaru is outclassed right now by two mechancially superior platforms.
