'06 grille mod -- wrc style
Hi, I am wondering if anyone out there has modified three piece 06 front grille like WRC car to make left (if you facing the car) piece of a grille to be an intake:

good idea. might be something to look into. i dont think i like the other two pieces being solid though. but i guess thats for protection. be nice to have a pic of under the hood!
f1vlad 03-05-2006 08:40 PM

I actually do not like solid piece. I like only intake part of it.
evom024 03-05-2006 08:43 PM

yea, im sure it wouldnt make a difference. think the intake is right there?
evom024 03-05-2006 08:48 PM

i want those mirrors
f1vlad 03-05-2006 08:49 PM

Yeah the regular intake is right there. However WRC style intake makes it little more interesting don't you think?

evom024 03-05-2006 08:52 PM

how does it breathe? cough cough
evom024 03-05-2006 08:53 PM

i guess you would have to fab a custom piece to snake down there to the grill?
f1vlad 03-05-2006 09:03 PM

Right of course there has to be a custom piece, that's what I am working on :)
Silver_04_WRX_SC 03-05-2006 09:03 PM

you can kinda see what is there behind the "wing" as I like to call it. Looks like the radiator and not a whole lot of room. Wish I had taken a better pic. this weekend of the front, with all the parts removed.

evom024 03-05-2006 09:06 PM

what material?
Hondaslayer 03-05-2006 09:10 PM

So, how do plan to get past the radiator and condenser?
evom024 03-05-2006 09:13 PM

bfh
and a sawzall
Hondaslayer 03-05-2006 09:48 PM

Well I guess you could make a sort of duct to squeeze in between there ( may be able to buy some extra space if you could relocate the rad/condenser an inch or so to the left)

But all that work for something that poinless?
evom024 03-05-2006 09:55 PM

buy a TA

Under the hood of the WRC car is MUCH different. Will post a pic later this week...
evom024 03-05-2006 10:07 PM

that would be sweet.
IronMonkeyL255 03-05-2006 10:38 PM

The main difference being that the radiator and intercooler are mounted in a 'V' configuration, or that's the way they were on the older versions.

Please do that would be great!

That would never work on an Impreza road car.

Here's photos of the WRC engine bay from a previous season. They run a few different engine setups depending on the race, though, so that Mexico one is probably a lot different than what is pictured here.

AHA!!!!!! So the "grounding mod" is a good idea after all!! Look at this piture of the WRC car. Between the oil fill tube and driver strut tower there are 2 thick copper wires and one is bolted to the chassis. :D

When I first saw it I thought it might be road dmg. I dont think it would look good on a street car.

You could always do the ghetto intake mod.

the 06 WRC car has an entirely different engine bay. There are pics of it here:

fwiw I did the "Ghetto Intake mod" and love it.
equipment junkie 08-21-2006 09:38 AM

I also like the ghetto intake mod - plan on doing the mod soon.
joostin420 08-21-2006 10:01 AM

i know this is an MY02-03 and i havent looked very closely at the duct on my MY06 STI, but could a front grill peice possibly be made like this one?

justin
f1vlad 08-21-2006 10:04 AM

I am sure somehow it's possible, but I think it's harker to do in '06. You have to redo grille, possible fabricate a lot.
STiShawn 08-21-2006 10:49 AM

for the amount of work that it would entail you could do a ghetto mod intake and save all the money you'd otherwise spend on all the custom work. Unless you must have the WRC intake setup.
The earlier grill setup (pictured above) could be done by modding the OEM grills to intake more air into the intake snorkus
