Dude I Have To Keep My Dent Repair Man On Retainer! If You Work On Your Car Regularly You Need To Pay Special Att To Not Lean On The Fenders. Yes Our Cars Are Like Aluminum Cans.

Yes I always get people leaning on my car and that means war :furious: Are fenders are very thin. Mikal

i replaced a fender after a "stuck under fallen subaru" incident... fender buckled upon rescue.
after i bought a used one off ebay and took it out, i was shocked to feel how light and thin it was!
replacing it was easy, it might be easier to buy a used same-color fender!

How about filling the back of the fender with insulation foam? Ive seen pretty hard foam and it would be a lite way to make the fender firm...just a thought

Actually I think plastic side pannels is one of the best things that Saturn has going for it. I really don't like the cars in general (though I considered buying a redline), but I've never seen a saturn that had cracked pannels that werent hit really hard. And most importantly I've never seen one with dents on the sides, paint missing, or rust. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but those plastic pannels have got to be nice.
| johnnywu | 11-03-2004 10:04 AM |
saturn had a good idea, on paper... but in the cold the crack easily. my sister has one with a big ol crack on the passenger side door, we had parked in an underground garage that was alot warmer than outside while at the mall. when we left we went straight to the supermarket down the street. as soon as we parked the person next to us ding'ed the door and it cracked.... wat in thehell?

I keep thinking that a set of the tools that the paintless dent guys use shouldn't be too horribly expensive. Then off to a junkyard for a fender to practice on. You can dent it and fix it a few times before you attack your own car.
After watching those guys drill holes in the door jambs that they could have avoided by removing one interior panel... I even saw a guy attacking a '96 ImpalaSS. THose are notorious for out-dents in the sides of the trunk. The guy opened the trunk, removed the tail-light and drilled a hole under the tail-light to get to the inside of the trunk that he could have gotten to if he just pulled one bit of fiber-board lining. If he had thought about it, he would have figured out where those out-dents came from. The inside of the trunk!!!

drilling holes seems to defeat the purpose of SCRATCHLESS dent repair
| OAK STI | 11-03-2004 06:33 PM |
It just started hail here in Oakland ,makes me wonder if people have trouble in the mid west with golf ball sized dents . Boy that would suck!
| Kean | 11-03-2004 06:59 PM |
drilling holes seems to defeat the purpose of SCRATCHLESS dent repair
He means that they drill a hole (typically in a crossmember, etc) so they can gain access to the panel from behind. He doesn't mean that they drill a hole from the outside in. Personally, I think it should only be used as a last resort when there's no other way to get behind the panel to be repaired. .......drilling a hole just because they are too lazy to remove something sounds ridiculous to me.

Saturn body panels own :p
I've had a raised F150 back into the passenger side doors of my GF's saturn right below the windows. Tilted the whole car a little bit, but no dents or scratches. Any other car would have left significant damage :)

I just had all of my dings removed paint free for $135. See if your local Subie club/chapter will do a dent removal day. We just had one and the guy charged $45 per quarter panel. I had 3 dents in the fender from a uppipe install and 4 door dings. My car looks as good as new, minus the paint chips.
Makes you feel so good. Reverses the feeling you get when you see that first ding.
Paintless dent removal.... DOO IT....DOO IT!

Haven't done it yet  I meant thats how much its going to cost to fix it. Apparently WRB is really hard to match and its expensive. I guess thats how all pearl paints are.
