Daytona 24 hours...who's going? part 1

Daytona 24 hours...who's going?
This promises to be one of the most exciting in recent years. There are many, many top names(from F1,IRL,Champcar,NASCAR,ALMS...) racing this year and the DP's are getting faster and faster.

Who's going?

I'll be there of course...hope to see some of you there....Feb 5~6.

BriDrive (infield,paddock,stands...possibly in hot pit this year)

BTW, turn 1,where they come off the trioval into the infield section...on the grandstand side, is an excellent place to view some of the nighttime stuff.
TypeR 01-10-2005 08:39 PM

I'll be there with Team Seattle and their two GT-3s. Don Kitch is actually my driving instructor, so it'll be fun to see him compete. They should have a pretty good shot at taking 1-2 in GT, I'm so stoked! We've got vip passes, but we should have a little subaru gathering at some point if there are enough people. See you there-

MRF582 01-10-2005 08:45 PM

I'll be there working a couple shifts in the pits.
Opie 01-10-2005 09:21 PM

I haven't been in the past 2 years but I'm thinking of going again this year...I'll make a decision soon.
Storz 01-10-2005 09:53 PM

Cant make it to the Daytona Race but I will be at Sebring......in something a little special...just cant say what it is yet :)
M 01-11-2005 12:10 AM

i am, hotpit all weekend. but will leave sometime sunday morning.
M 01-11-2005 12:14 AM

turbo performance center will win GT handedly.

I'm never even heard of team seattle. no offense.
CBRDSpeedfactory 01-11-2005 10:11 AM

ill be there...
might be driving the evo mr down...

i am going to be there as a sub driver for a daytona prototype team...i couldnt make the pre-testing because our baby boy was born...

i ran the race in 2002 and finished 6th overall in an sr2 car.... and couldnt in 2003 because i was testing with dyson racing at sebring...

overall, i used to like the series better with the sr cars, but dp's are getting better...should be an awesome race!!

BriDrive 01-11-2005 10:28 AM

I know the Dysons are finally back there this year and according to reports, extremely thrilled to be competing here again after a hiatus spawned by the switch to DP's. Their testing results, which I'm sure you know, have been within 2 seconds of the fastest guys, so I presume their Crawford Ford is pretty well sorted. At any rate, congrats on the baby, hope to meet you and hope you get some seattime in the race.
Have you actually driven a DP yet? I'm a hardcore SR,LMP,P1P2 type myself, but the Dps are beginning to be enjoyable....except for Hoosier ??? uncertainty now.
BriDrive
M 01-11-2005 04:42 PM

just for reference who are all you guys. We should meet up in the meal tent or something. My race is on friday so i'll eb spectating the rest of the time but i'll have my credential so...
BriDrive 01-11-2005 04:53 PM

Who am I ! Who am I !!!! Are you serious ????

I specifically am nobody...just a very large roadracing fan.
I think it would be great to establish a meeting point.

BriDrive
M 01-11-2005 10:16 PM

I didn't knwo fans could get hot pits. very cool. and who is our racer here?
BriDrive 01-12-2005 09:53 AM

(fans in hotpits)They cannot....I have been working with some people I know to get on board as a crewman on a particular team. It has currently not come to fruition.

(forum racers) Chad Block among others...............

BriDrive
M 01-12-2005 09:58 AM

Yeah very cool, what team will you be there with. namely what car, i'm a fan of road racing but i don't know every team and I have no clue who drivers are and if they're any good. I just like the cars and the technology.

Little example. At fontana one of the other crew guys was like look over there. so i did and i didn't see anyone i knew. He said that's memo ___. And i was like that's cool, who is he. And then there was shock etc from him. and then i found out. This happens almost every race. ha
CBRDSpeedfactory 01-12-2005 09:59 AM

hey..
i drove the ****ty ass cegwa car last year in testing, and it was a pos...

i have talked to max quite a bit and may jump in a car this season, i love the lmp cars, but like u said DP is getting much much better, i love guys like magnussen, papis, gavin, a wal, butch....they are all awesome guys to race with...

so we will see, i wish i could drive the sti down, but it will be tied up that weekend....and i will have to go down to sebring also for testing there...so ill probably run back and forth...

i know myles will be down.

Not that anyone knows me, but I'm headed down late on tuesday night. Splitting the drive on wed, arrive early thursday morning. I can't wait!

I ordered the paddock club pass, figured it would be fun to see the whole place while I'm there. It allows me to park in the infield, fiugured that would be easiest.

Help a daytona n00b out, how should I spend my time thu-sun? Best vantage points, etc..
Oldalfaguy 01-12-2005 03:24 PM

I'm a nobody fan but will be spectating Sat afternoon. Anyone wanna meet up? There was a small subie contingent there last year.
RaceComp Engineering 01-13-2005 10:58 AM

YeahI will be there in hope that there is a producer who wants to start shooting a reality show about poor , fat guys becoming race car drivers at the Pro level...............

They were 1 & 2 in class and 7 & 8 overall in 2003 and had a 1st in class, 6th overall in 1999 so they've had some past success.

TypeR, I'd like to hear how it goes. I've thought about doing the trip with Team Seattle at some point in the future. I've done some tracktime with Don and Proformance too.
boxered 01-14-2005 09:47 AM

I can just open my window, listen, and tell who's leading...and I live 9 miles from the track.

Hmm..Myles is coming to town..I hearby offer my STi to be your local Zeal promotional vehicle*. :)

  ..yeah I bet huh...LOL....I am riding down with a buddy in his ole skewl Legacy. He is trying to break my record of 9hrs, 10 minutes. Set back in 2001. I drove a special edition Camry on all things, rental car version. You may say,..Huh?....yep, they come with a 21.8 gallon tank and have a tall final drive for 4th gear, so you get about 420 miles per tank full. 75mph is like 1700 rpms. I was stupid-err back then so I averaged 89 mph I think. I had to take my friend his Racing suit as he found a drive there. SO for him it was pay me to $ 500.00 drive to Daytona, or buy a STAND 21 suit while there for 1400.00....................I stopped 1 time.

<offtopic>
let's say you fill up with close to 2 gallons left and you can go 420 miles before each fill up. so that's 420 miles in 20 gallons. MPG = 21

that's what an impreza gets driving around town. I have gone 500 miles before i stopped to fill up on my old 93 accord DX. and that thing had a 17 gallon tank.

lol...i dont think myles actually took the time to calculate everything out, but cool

I'm trying to convince my brother to in my place since i cant make it.
RaceComp Engineering 01-15-2005 11:06 AM

yeah I didnt take the time,..all I know is The sti going to Petite Lemans needed 3 fill ups,..the Porsche Driving to Daytona needed 4 ,.so to stop once was impressive and I was driving fast.

its good to know there is someone always calculating on the boards.....

I have no intention of trying to beat your time. By my estimates if anything i hope we can get there thursday at noonish. I plan on leaving around 8 or whenever your late ass gets to my house. and then drive until like 2am or something then pull over to get some sleep and then you can drive.
Chris N 01-15-2005 09:59 PM

How much do tickets cost for the 24hrs Daytona? I've always wanted to go but end up watching from the couch here in Maine.

  when you need to sleep ,I'll drive the Legacy , might have to crank the KYB's up a notch, but I'll drive it. Does it have the 2.2 turbo?......Oh, we need an ABS sensor before we go too right?

no its a 98 2.5Gt with 4EAT so its no fun to drive, as far as the abs, eh I am getting used to the light, maybe if i get ambitious(sp) i might buy one, as of now the only safety feature on the car is the seatbelts, lol. The Kybs are on 1 in the front, i have been to lazy to jack the rear up to change them to one but will prolly do that tomorrow.
