Fun, fun, fun in Maine! part 1

Jon Bogert 07-29-2001 10:48 PM

Fun, fun, fun in Maine!

Wow, what a great rally! Maine was the most competitive rally all year for us mid-pack folks, the whole middle of the field was covered by a few minutes spread.

Congrats to TOMMY B for a great finish in PGT with his Legacy turbo. Movin' on up to seed 4--no more waiting lists for him.

I-club regular Randy Zimmer had a tough DNF. The roads weren't as bad as last year, but there were still plenty of football sized rocks to break wheels, suspensions and oil pans.

Greg Healey, who's not on the board, drove his underpowered 2.2L NA Impreza L to an impressive 24th overall. He's really smooooth.

The team RallyStuff Celica was going well until the last stage. I don't know what came over me (other than the choking dust), but I totally mailed-in Stage 8, and dropped five places in the final results. It was enough to get me to seed 3, though, so I'm still pretty pleased with the weekend.

Finishing right below me was none other than Subaru factory driver Karl Scheible. He just couldn't beat me, no matter how many times the Prodrive crew changed his gearbox. ;)

If anyone got any photos or video of me, I'd love to see them. We were pretty sideways the whole event, with all the loose gravel and rocks.
Mike Anson 07-29-2001 11:18 PM

Congrats on beating Scheible! That's friggin awesome! Score one for the older cars.

Got any in-car video? ::drool::
Jon Bogert 07-30-2001 10:42 AM

No video--the lipstick camera died.

Here's a great action pic of us, though:

this was my first expierence at a rally, and it rocked. A whole NESIC crew showed up and was sure to hoot and Holler when the subarus went by. There was some tough driving going on there. I took about 8 rolls of film, so, I'll be sure to post my results. Tommy B it was nice meeting you, and hearing about it from a drivers point of view.

RallyCSX 07-30-2001 11:13 AM

Congrats with your move to seed 3! It looked like you were having a great time...
I spent the whole rally wishing that I was in It...:(

Jon,

What car were you guys in? I took over 400 pics myself, so I may have pics of you, too.

Jon Bogert 07-30-2001 11:42 AM

Car #185, white/red Celica. We were running about halfway down the start order the whole event. Thanks for any pics!
patr 07-30-2001 12:23 PM

If anyone has pics of car #8 I would like to see them too...

it seemed like everytime there was a spectator area we weren't going smoothly but whateve - I'll take what I can get !

-Pat
TOMMY B 07-30-2001 12:45 PM

Jon Bogert and the I-Club

I was happy to get back in the driver seat :). We had a good run and finally get or seed 4 ranking.:) Well you were right about Gerry B. The water was just a littel too deep.;)

Greg Healy's Time on the last stage was almost unreal, I was almost flat-out and he still had taken a lot of time out of me :( Next Rally I think I can give me a better run for the money......

I hope that Every one will be making the "NEW YORK RALLY" Co-3 this fall 10/12-13 in the catskills Mt. There should be a great Trun-out for this rally and be much better for spectating.

P.S.

If Any one has PIX's of me at Maine I would greatly appreciat if you would E-Mail them to me at [email protected] "Car 898 Subaru Legacy PGT "White""

Thanks, TOMMY B

How come no one ever says 'hi' ?!?

THe only 'hi' I got was a wave from Jon and a few passing waves .... and the whole Quebec i-club posse said hi... where was everyone else ?!?

I guess the gaps were too large and the service too short... oh well...

Fish 07-30-2001 03:55 PM

patr.

what color is your car just so I'll have an easier time spotting it.
redobs 07-30-2001 04:06 PM

Patr: Actually, what car were you driving????

Jon: Is that Rallispec's old Celica?

Tommy B: I've got a good sequence of photos of you as you drifted by. I've just got to dig thru them all to find them. May take a few days.
Jon Bogert 07-30-2001 04:19 PM

No, it's my old Celica. :D They're still trying to sell theirs, I think.

Waving is tough--a bunch of times guys is Subarus waved and flashed, but I was zoned out a lot during transits or talking with my co-driver/wife about the corners I screwed up and what color wallpaper we should put in the guest bathroom and stuff. ;)

Patr drives for Subaru Canada--blue WRX.

AHadjiminas 07-30-2001 05:08 PM

Hey everybody,

Are there any pictures of our car, #925 silver Subaru Impreza? It was my first National rally, so they may not be the most spectacular shots. I have to say though, we really learned a lot and we have the car working as close to perfect as you can. Now I have to start working as good as the car :) Thanks in advance for the pictures!!

Jon Bogert 07-30-2001 05:38 PM

Hahaha--looks like Andrew's getting caught just .05 into stage 1! :D ;)

Ahhhh!! *clicking sound in head*

part= Pat Richard

AHadjiminas: Was that the Corona one? I'll look for pics tonight.
patr 07-30-2001 07:38 PM

yes thats me ! Long time i-clubber (even before I did this rally thing!) and ex-mlister...

-Pat
Overtime 07-30-2001 07:56 PM

All those pictures are awesome, but I have to say the second one of that silver Impreza... jeez. What a great looking car.
Ver.III 07-30-2001 10:19 PM

If anyone has any pics of car # 17 ( McGeer ) even though he only lasted for 3 stages, I would be much appreciated.
randy zimmer 07-30-2001 10:25 PM

Been pretty busy getting back and all...
over on
www.randyzimmer.com/video/maine
there'll be some stuff coming up soon.
a video explanation of my 1st DNF,
3 groups of shots of the end of stage 7 taken while waiting to retrieve the car.
(fast guys like Patrick R. #8 - midpack runners - the rest, with a special suprise guest appearance!)
The only ones missing were the starters before the Sprongles, we just got there too late.
Later I'll post the in-car of stage 2 and 3 from friday and 4 from sat.
2 has a glitch as I adjusted the camera too low and then the mirror readjusts even lower and tilts due to the bumps - 2 sparkplug wires fall off and reconnect at will.
3 the camera is better and the engine is running on all 4 but the rocks shake everything mercilessly.
4 has a small glitch too, the mirror that the lens is attached to falls off the header when I hit a bridge and pop the LF tire a mile
from the finish.
Congrats to all who finished, I couldn't believe how tough it was on the car and the opportunities to screw up were numerous to say the least.
DCRallyDave 07-30-2001 10:26 PM

How about the Impreza I was codriving, #881, the Burgandy one?

Thanks,
Dave Shindle
Rovah 07-30-2001 10:26 PM

If anyone has any pics of #912, I'd appreciate seeing them. We were the red Honda CRX(yes, I drive a '98 RS daily!). We went out with a failed suspension on SS6 Saturday AM.

Thanks to WebKris for the nice Parc Expose shot. I hope someone noticed the RS vents on the Honda! I put them on there after I installed the large scoop from Primative on my RS. And yes, they did function nicely! :-)

Cheers! John

Fish 07-30-2001 11:33 PM

hey all.

Here is a combined collection of the NESIC images from the event.

I am sure you'll find a good amount of pictures of each of the cars you're looking for.

http://www.clutchdrop.com

enjoy!
Dave_Clark 07-31-2001 03:25 AM

Hey congrats to Pat Richard, 6th overall and 1st in PGT by over 8 minutes! We really showed those Prodive boys how it's done!;) :p

It's too bad Tom McGeer hit that big rock on stage 3. I think he would have won by a good margin. He already had a 15 second lead after 2 stages. He definitely had the best car there.

Tommy Brann, way to go! Good result, sorry I wasn't able to say hi. It was just too busy and there were so many cars. How was that DMS?

Same to Jon Bogert, Randy Zimmer, Dave Shindle, etc. I never even saw half of you guys, it was such a zoo!

What a rally, only 64 finishers out of 121 starters. Maine is definitely a place you can't afford to make a mistake on, you will get punished!

Wicked pictures, guys, and glad to hear everyone had a blast down there. And congratulations to Pat for taking it home for the canadians :) Can't wait for rocky next year so I can see you guys in action in person again.

Wow, I'm in pictures! What kind of Camera took these?!

http://24.147.94.96/nesic/gallery/07_01_Maine/DSC02139.JPG

(stupid ECU)

Andrew and Jon: Congrats on finishing Maine. Its usually the
second most brutal on suspensions. (Prescot is the worst I
think) Can't believe we fell to something so preventable
(long story) in a car that was built like a tank.
(sound of head beating on Group-B motor)

We thought we had gone very slow on SS2 as the factor
we used was for Km, not miles and we were WAY off
on it. hehe. When we figured it out we were FLYING on
SS3. Too bad.

Pat: hey I said hello at Parc Expose, but you seemed a
bit.. preoccupied. :P We started in front of Randy, so I
got to say hello as well.

Ah well. I'm for hire for the 2002 season. Looking for a
team that plans to run more than 3 events and wants
to be competitive. Hate to take up all those EVO offers
I keep getting. ;)
