looking for a STI gauge cluster 02

so i just modify my gauge cluster..and i did it all wrong co'z i take out the needles and sand the km/h,rpm water temp and fuel......and when i put it back and try it ..my interior lights went dimmer including the hvac..i just dnt know what happen...and my needles as expected they're not sitting right...so anybody or know somebody can fix it???or any body know where i can get a STI gauge cluster w/shift light??..co'z i just F it up bigtime......

Why would you sand the cluster? or remove the needles? That just doesn't make any sense. There's no modification that I know of that requires sanding of the cluster.
If you get an STi cluster, you'll have to have the odometer officially recorded or you'll run into issues when you go to sell the car later on.

You did see the note at the top of that post that says, "without removing needles" right?
The only way to get your odometer recorded is to have the dealer replace the cluster and note it with a sticker on your driver's side door jam or to send out the new cluster to have it reprogrammed at a place like www.tacomaspeedometer.com
It may be different since you're in Canada though.

how can does guys put a indiglo gauge on there gauge cluster without removing the needle...and yeah i notice that..but i didn't take my time...
| cnk | 01-29-2005 10:44 PM |
Most guys that choose to do an indiglo overlay do it by carefully angling the overlay on without pulling the needles. Pulling the needles only cause problems and is thoroughly documented on the forums by the multiple posts of people messing up their gauges with incorrect needle alignment or sticky needles after removing them.

and do you have any idea about my interior light ...co'z they're dimmer every time i switch on my headlights..my hvac and radio????
| veightkiller | 01-29-2005 10:46 PM |
yeah mine got sticky and doesn't sit right......oh men i pucked it up bigtime.....
| cnk | 01-29-2005 10:46 PM |
Don't know about that. You mentioned that you didn't take your time so it is possible that you damaged something on the cluster that is causing it to drain more power for the lights and cause the dimming that you see. That's just a guess though.

Are you sure it wasn't like that before? You could just be noticing it now because you're being more attentive since you messed up the cluster.

There is no STi gauge cluster for the 02 WRX. Most people use either a JDM STi cluster or a 04 STi cluster.

www.subaruwrxparts.com, your dealer, and sometimes in the For Sale forums.
Do a search for 'sti cluster' in the Electrical forum and you'll find many posts. You seem to be a little impatient. I would advise you to take your time and research things before jumping on it and ending up in the position that you're in now.

i tried to post there about that sti cluster..and im reading all the post about that one but i cant find a direct answer..if i bought the sti gauge cluster is it just a bolt on???do i need to hook up something for the shift and for the needles to go back and fourth??
| cnk | 01-30-2005 01:20 AM |
You're not doing enough research then. Did you read the 16 page post regarding putting in a 04 Sti cluster into a 02 WRX? It details out exactly how to do it and what works and what doesn't. The answers you're looking for are in that post. .I know because I did all the research before purchasing my STi cluster. ;)

veightkiller...just thought i would chime in since i have done both the stock cluster to red mod and installed the STi cluster. I have successfully done the mod to change the stock 02 gauge cluster to red. You just have to be very patient. It took me three days to get it perfect. You "HAVE TO" take the stock cluster apart to do it successfully.
The STi cluster took me about 10 minutes to install yesterday. All you have to do is cut the yellow wire (B28) on the center wire clip, tape it, then install the STi cluster. It works perfectly (cept for the outside air temp which i don't care about). I have instructions if you want 'em.
If I were you, I would try and get a "USED" STi cluster off eBay or the forums. Another idea would be to buy a "USED" 02 OEM stock cluster. Either one can be set to your mileage by www.tacomaspeedometer.com for $65.
If I were you I would get an STi cluster. They are AMAZING!. The difference is unbelievable. Just my .02 cents. Good luck!

Since you're in Canada, you're going to need a cluster that shows mileage in KPH so I would either try to get a JDM unit or an STi unit from a Canadian dealership or seller.
I'll restate it again since it looks like the first time I said it fell on deaf ears. You seem like a very impatient person. Based on your post that you hope "mommy's going to bail you out with money", I would also say that you are very young. If you can't afford to be modifying your car or to pay the penalties of screwing up during a modification, then don't. You owe it to yourself and it looks like your mom's wallet as well to at least do the research before jumping into things. ;)

it's not very responsible when you need to ask moms for cash to repair what YOU broke.

did you take it out with the car cold and the gas tank absolutely full?
anyway, i did this and i just didn't take out the needles... it's hard to get back there and i actually am not done, it's just half done... but from what i understand, it'll just plug right in.
enjoy your $200-300 cluster...

The usdm has km/h as secondary markers. i know ebay has them once in a while, mostly the ver.7 though.
