Old-schoolers: Anyone want bumper/plate trim like this?
These are pics of the license plate blank that Autospeed produces (www.autospeedperformance.com , which is a pretty damned nice website by the way).

This fits '02+ Imprezas, as you can see by the shaped notches on the lower side. Now, I don't see why we can't have some too--in fact, I imagine it'd just be the exact same piece, without the notches. Looks like a perfect rectangle, and since of course the hole location remains the same, it shouldn't be too difficult a request.

I thought I'd ask here, and if enough people want one (I do :) ), I could drop a line to Autospeed.

Thanks!

EDIT 3/11/04 - Mark at Autospeed said he could probably design some, if he had a car for a template! So, anyone living near Cinnaminson, NJ who's willing to volunteer.... We need you!!!

Emailed Autospeed anyway, to let them know about the thread. If a few people seem genuinely interested, and Autospeed's game for it, maybe the Mods here would allow a group buy/purchase thread of some sort...

:)

let me know i'm interested
imprezaboi 02-21-2005 10:34 PM

I would so get that if I wasn't planning on hacking that license plate area off.
Good to see some GC loving.

rabbitnutz 02-22-2005 01:58 AM

what would it say other than WRX ? "impreza" ? RS ? L ?

the subaru stars would look cool too
RokketRide 02-22-2005 11:55 AM

Anything they can do to improve the appearance of the screws? Looks so unfinished.
Siper2 02-22-2005 12:08 PM

Not sure. I don't mind the screws so much, but if you check the page I THINK there's mention of matching metal caps that go with it. Might be wrong though.

As for the engraving, I guess they could do the 2.5RS font, or whatever we asked... Maybe it'd depend on demand, I'm really not sure. All I know is I like them and would like one for my car.
So we'll see what they say. :)

I've already got one on mine in the anodized black. I've got midnight black pearl so it looks ****in' awesome. I'll post a pic sometime...

when you say midnight black pearl, do you mean the anodized black. also is the screws on the existing holes or do you have to drill into the bumper?

If you mean on your WRX, that's not the point of the thread. We GC guys have a different-shaped mounting spot, thus the need for a slightly different product.

:)
siperwrx 02-23-2005 05:41 AM

Siper2, eh? where'd you get your nickname. But yes, I'm referring to the WRX because that's what the product is made for. And 949, I had to drill new holes, their are already little dimples in the bumper where you need to drill. It's a breeze. The screws come black.
Siper2 02-23-2005 09:45 AM

Yes I know that's what the product is made for. But if you've read my post, it's a request to see if GC/GF owners want one to fit their cars, as well.

Anyway....

The nickname comes from my last name, Seipt. It was my father's nickname in college, a buddy of mine started using it on me when I was in college, so.... I added the "2." :D
sandiegowrx 02-23-2005 12:27 PM

here's some that don't have the autospeed logo on them...

*sigh*

People... please. Pay attention, here. 'Tisn't hard. :)

Those are for the NEW BODY IMPREZA. The old-style ones don't have license plates mounts which are shaped like that. Those will fit, but will look stupid on our cars.

Ours are rectangular, whereas the new cars have those notches on the bottom. Capisce?
DreddRS25 02-23-2005 12:38 PM

I am definately interested.

I've wanted to saw off the mounting location of the front plate to make the opening a nice smooth rectangle.

Something like a plate would be more practical.
Siper2 02-23-2005 12:40 PM

Hmm, not sure I follow. Ours is already rectangular in shape......
DreddRS25 02-23-2005 12:47 PM
Hmm, not sure I follow. Ours is already rectangular in shape......
I mean to cut the mounting location (boxed in red) out entirely. So that it doesn't make a lip.

Oh okay, I see. Yeah it's kind of funky by itself.

I like your car. The grille and lip look great. :)

:D hehe...Oh I wish that was my car. Dang I really want the fog covers on that car.

No that picture I pulled from the Members Gallery Thread under "I need pimp GC8 pics!"
Siper2 02-23-2005 12:54 PM

Ah, cheater. :D

I'm going to end up with the V6 lip and grille, mesh fog covers and new 22B vents. I've got some vents now but I don't like how they fit, so I went back to the OE ones.

Solid fog covers are nice and all, but IMO it's a pain to have to get out of the car and unscrew them when you need to use your lights.
Siper2 03-11-2005 02:57 PM

No word from Autospeed yet, but....

BUMP :)

(I'll Email them again.)
Siper2 03-11-2005 03:54 PM

Wow, that was fast. Got this reply from Mark at Autospeed, and I've edited my first post, looking for a volunteer.

Get a car to stop in and I can get it done....

Now what logo?

-Mark

...To which I replied:

Hi, Mark-

I'd think the guys would probably want "Impreza" as well as "2.5RS" and "L" if you can do it.
(Or if you only want two, "Impreza 2.5RS" and "Impreza L" would work, I guess. Might not look as shwanky, but could you do the two different font types, for example of "Impreza" and "2.5RS" on the same plate?)

I'll post up and see if there's someone near you guys that can drop by.

-Chris

Do you guys agree about the logos?

I didn't know 2000 was 'old school'
Siper2 03-12-2005 06:43 PM

Where've you been?

:D

(Your '91 I think would officially qualify as "ancient" by now. :) )
teh Phil 03-12-2005 06:48 PM

I think my rust would agree with you there ;)
Radar 03-12-2005 07:07 PM
Why would you buy this
So you can show your car is a WRX. Like Mustang drivers have a big MUSTANG sticker on the top of their windshield, this way, everyone knows.
Siper2 03-12-2005 07:14 PM

Wow.

The sarcasm's dripping tonight.

Someone grab me a towel.

I'm just hoping someone in NJ/Tri-State can drop their car by for fitting. If nobody from there sees this thread by late next week, maybe I'll drop a post over there to ask around.

Going out of town tomorrow 'til next Friday for work training, and too much to do tonight!

Actually, I did some photoshopping to an old pic of mine and the GC looks great with just the large gaping hole:

I could probably swing by with my L if someone would give me an idea of where they are located?
Siper2 03-16-2005 09:09 AM

Their address is in the header on their homepage, www.autospeed.com .
Siper2 03-28-2005 02:42 PM

bump

Posting in Tri-State to see if anyone's willing to drop a car by...
