reviews on carbon fiber hoods

I got about 750 to spend on a hood. i was just looking at the
c-west cf hoods and wow 1400 bucks.
thinking of the OE tuning 6k cf hoods or VIS cf hoods.
has anyone had these hoods? if so how are the fitments?
thanks

i havn't had either but, i saw a carbon fiber images at www.axronline.com for 600 bucks. the carbon images ones seem to be strong, they have videos of them dropping a wheel on the hood and nothin happens (to the hood). well good luck

Fiber images

Yeah, I've got a fiber images hood and it seems to be plenty durable.
Oh yeah... I got mine from Mantaray Motorsports I ordered it through a guy named Brian. Actually they used a pic of my car on their site... (grin) I really should send them one in sunnier weather...
I liked the way it looked with the original scoop better than with the CF scoop... ok... so I'm odd... :P
Here's a couple pics

Sorry, wavy effect? I'm not quite sure what you mean.
It fit very nicely to the stock locations and
was incredibly light compared to the stock hood. I actually removed the stocker and installed the new CF hood all by my lonesome.
Finishwise.... I'm happy except for one area where it looks dusty due to some teeny pits in the finish.

I had no problems putting all the stock underhood bits on mine. Including the heat blanket/fire blanket thingy... :)
I'd recommend NOT putting your hood pins where I did if you are planning on using those little key locking things.

I would vouch for VIS hoods and work with them every day. Fitment is real good good. Comes with the latch and everything already. All you have to do is install it. If you have any other questions just ask. I can take close up pictures of some if you want.

That would be greatly appreciated. Please show me pics of the IC seals/splitter, and the reflection glare shot.
thanks:)

I had a VIS hood on my civic, I was very impressed with the quality and fit, so when the time comes to put one on the WRX that will be what it gets.

Personally my only experience with a carbon fiber hood was with VIS. To be honest I wasn't happy with the quality at all, the weave wasn't straight, the underside looked like it was made by the cheapest of material, etc. Just didn't seem to be worth the money.

No matter what quality hood you get and even if it comes with latches I would get the hood pins. Ive seen to many of my friends get hoods from VIS and other good companys only to have the blow up into the windsheild after several months. Im not saying it will happen to all hoods. But better safe then sorry. Laters Mikal

Whatever you do, stay away from OE Tuning. Their CF products are total crap. Trust me, I have personal experience. Just do a search on OE Tuning or my name and you will see.

If you mean OEM style CF hoods are heavier than the aluminum stocker... Get your facts straight or point out this overly heavy CF hood. Yes, the stock aluminum hood is light but a CF hood is noticeably lighter and easier to lift.

Yup, the fiber images hood has a very nice underside with good quality fasteners but there was NO WAY I would have a composite hood on my car without hood pins.
(I just snagged some inexpensive aluminum pins. I'll copy Subiegal's hood pins choices once I start doing anything serious off road... :) )
