Should I debadge the "subaru" on my wrb wrx?
and anyone have a picture? I've seen a black and silver wrx debadged in person. I thought it looked good but I'm not sure if it would look good on a wrb wrx. thanks

The main reason I took subaru off was it is sooo much easier to wash and wax my car now:D

Yes, hair dryer and dental floss work well. Just take your time. DO not use "goo gone", alcohol or other solvents!
;)

Mine looks exactly like Kalex's car. I kept the WRX, and I have an STi badge in the same place. (Yes, I know, I'm a poser...)
I was nervous about doing it, because I wasn't confident I could UNDO it very well, but it turned out great! I used some cleaner/wax on the area after removing all of the letters, and it shined up nicely. Makes it look less like an econobox to me...

I wish it is the STI....
I used dental floss, mint:)
Then I rolled the left over tape with my thumb, and remove the residue with wd-40; I detailed the area later and applied the decals.
Take care.

WD40 worked great for me too, paint looks good after three months +
Just remember to wash it off thoroughly, and wax the area also.

I also had apprehensions (sp) about debadging..
I'm VERY glad I did it, looks much better in person than any pictures I have seen.
just be patient with the glue, it took me about an hour with this orange based gum remover called De-Solve-It.
and now you get to find someplace fun to stick the letters :)

I just did mine Saturday afternoon. I used 3M Trim Adhesive Remover. It took about 3 coats of it to do much. I used a wooden paint stir with a towel wrapped around it to scrape the glue off. Once I got almost all of it, I used a clay bar to clean it up. I then Zaino'd it 3 times. I left the "WRX" one in the corner too.

Much cleaner without the emblem. Gives you the opportunity for a 'swoosh' or 'old school' WRX sticker for the center of the trunk.
I used fishing line - a little hair dryer action - rolled the bulk of the remainder off with my finger. A little 'Klix' wax & silicone remover and rewax.

Kalex,
Are those 16" or 17" OEM wheels?
if they are 16" did you spray them yourself?

I sprayed them my self....
and they are the factory wheels. If you do it, the most important thing is to clean the wheels thoroughly and apply the paint in thin layers, to prevent chipping.
| ChadRockPSU | 08-28-2002 10:40 AM |
Kalex,
Do you have any pics of the wheels, or a side view of your car. I am seriously considering purchising another set of OEMs and spraying them gold. So I am really curious as to how they look on a WRB.

Why is it ok for Subaru owners to put STi badges on their car, but as soon as a Honda owner puts a Type R badge on his car he's a ricer?
| VanillaEps | 08-28-2002 11:08 AM |
This has been debated forever....but the main arguement is that Type R is a kind of car while STi is a performance company. It would be like placing Mugen sticker on a Honda.

If you're thinking about buying a new set of OEMs and painting them gold, why not just buy UK OEMs in gold? You can even get them in 17s. Is there a big price difference?

The STi is an actual car. It has it's own designation (GDA vs. GDB) It is a different production car.

UK OEM is about $1700? while a used 16" OEM is About $350 for the set and about $10 for paint. Do the math;)

Oooooh, I thought you meant picking up a new set of OEMs. BTW, UK OEM 17" wheels in gold are 1250. I guess you would need new tires though.
Back on topic, I think that the debadging mod looks really good on wingless sedans. I still think it looks good on sedans with wings, but even better on wingless.

pull about 24" and then...
loop it together (thicker-prevent it from shreding the floss), make sure it is long enough to have a good grip at the ends; then slide it behind the letters and do a sawing motion. Be patient, it will come off. The hair dryer will help a lot if you have someone applying the heat while using the floss. I have used floss ONLY, to remove the front decal and the trunk badges with no problem.
Note: When you are done removing the badge, roll the leftover tape with your thumb (be patient) and use wd-40 to remove the left over; then wash, polish and wax.

Heat each letter up and try fishing line instead of dental floss.

I guess we're different, you know?
I spend time doing things that make me happy and that make my life fuller. I wanted some pink on my car; I saw a great deal on the STi badge; I thought it would look cool on my car, and guess what? It DOES! I'll be buying more STi parts as time wears on...
You on the other hand appear to be the sort that would rather spend their time finding fault with others. Hey, if it works for you, go to it! I've long since past the point where stuff like this troubles me. Enjoy!

De-badge?
I was actually thinking about leaving the S-U-B-A-R-U on the car and taking the WRX off. I think that would look better. I like a balanced look. Since I don't have an STI badge to balance out the WRX badge, I think that would look better on my car. I just think the S-U-B-A-R-U balances itself better that the two badges..
6 little letters.. thats it.. Plus I like the sleeper look.;)
The only reason I haven't done it yet.. is becuase the White WRXs have a blue outline on the "WRX" badge and not the pink outline like the other ones.. "I'm not sure about other color cars". Wanted to keep Blue in the color composition of my car..

Well after almost 1 yr exactly I finally debadged my silver wagon. I left the WRX, and plan to put the blue "i" on the right side of the rear door. No point in posting pics,, but I think it looks good.
My plan was to just pull the SUBARU off, but I ended up taking off the impreza badge too.

| gtguy | 09-23-2002 09:03 AM |
I like the "Subaru" off, but the "WRX" logo intact, mostly because the bit of brightwork that is the key hole on the hatch (or trunk face) needs to be balanced by something on the other side, hence leaving the "WRX" intact. It looks better than completely debadged, IMHO.
And, my .02 on the eternal STi debate. I have on my car: STi short shifter, complete suspension including lateral/trailing links, engine and transmission mounts and control arm bushings. I still wouldn't put an STi sticker on my car. I'll be getting an STI grille, and intend to take the STi badge off of that, too.
IMHO, the STi is a separate performance model, and I don't have one. So I wouldn't, no matter how inadverdently, make allusion to the fact that I might by sporting a badge. I have seen "equipped by STi" stickers that are very nice. They run along the lower part of the front doors.
But to each their own, I say. Cars are personal items.
