Silverstone time, and I don't mean cookware!

1. RB (I know, I know, but he loves this track)
2. MS (happy with second)
3. JB (home court charge)
4. JPM (has something to prove)
5. FA (on a roll)
6. DC (pit strategy all the way)
7. KR (points, again)
8. CdM (hey, he can't suck forever, can he?)
Sato's engine will blow again, and Gene will be close, but no cigar.

Ralf signs with toyota with a 3 year deal. not sure if this is old news though.
Da Matta and Panis are gonna battle for the #2 spot. And they both deserve to stay in F1, IMO. If they had a solid reliable car they both might be competitive.

I vote for daMatta for the # 2 seat at Toyota. I think he is a classy guy and is probably on his way up rather then down. I think Panis is also good but he is no spring chicken. I would also like to see Webber at Williams rather then Toyota.
This my 1st shot at one of these picks:
1. MS
2. TS
3.RB
4. FA
5.JPM
6.JB
7.JT
8.KR
These are based on nothing but my imagination. I would like to see a non-red car win though. I have to pull for DC and JB to do well in their home event.
This is a real crap shoot... the Michelin runners can run with Ferrari in qualifying, and they all run pretty closely together. Plus it may be a wet race. A real crap shoot... but should be another good race!
Michael - Faster in the dry, the wet, when challenged by another car... just bullet proof!
Rubens - Wet or dry, the Bridgestone advantage will put both red cars on the podium.
Fernando - He's back, and Renault is friendly to it's Michelins.
Jarno - Blue and yellow, will follow blue and yellow home.
Jenson - I'd like to see a BAR take the win, but they didn't have the pace in Magny Cours to take the Renaults... I hope they beat the Renaults.
Kimi - He will come alive at Silverstone!
Juan - What happened to Williams BMW?
David - Loving a competitive car which doesn't blow up!
Takuma will blow up, and Honda will again say they are mystified.
Regarding the silly season, the best seats available next season are the 2 at Williams, so whatever happens, clearly Frank believes that Ralfy is not as good as 2 other drivers who will be available... So who are these 2 drivers?
Weber will get one Williams seat... so who gets the other? It is hard for da Matta to shine when the Toyota chassis is such a PoS, but he should be a candidate. If Marc Gene sparkles this weekend at Silverstone, then he may get the seat. Giancarlo Fisichella should have the seat, but his Italian heart is lusting after a Ferrari seat, so he will need to give up that dream. DC is available, but Frank would not be smart to put him in it... Jacques is available, but I can't see that coming to fruition either... Silly season, should get sillier from here on out!
For Silverstone, I'm gonna pray for sporadic, light rain! This was a helluva race last year! :D

I've seen a few mentions in the press about Jack Villeneuve getting the second Williams seat. Perhaps after a year of public villification might see Jacques a little more motivated than he was at BAR.
anyway, my picks:
1. John Felstead - Quick, aggressive and ready to win
2. Maggie Thatcher - always tough at home and away
3. Sir Winston Churchill - Best of the Brits, but finishes third because of his weight penalty
4. William Shakespeare - The best ever at his craft
5. David Beckham and Posh Spice in the Minardi two-seater
6. Robbie Burns - Scotland is still considered GN
7. DC
8. Christine Keeler

On the Podium:
1) Barrichello - He likes this track.
2) Button - Can't handle home track pressure not to mention 1st win hurdle.
3) Raikkonen - McLaren is climbing back.
Honorable mention:
Schumacher - Doesn't have good memories or good luck at Silverstone.
Sato - Will surely break another engine.
Renault - Can't recover from French schooling... but will regain composure at Hockenheimring

I'd certainly like to see him make a charge up the field, could be an interesting race for him.
And Kimi for that matter. Hopefully he hasnt forgetton how to drive a car thats fast AND doesnt blow up.

Toyota's Philosophy
...maybe Toyota will figure out that the driver is not the problem ?!
Good point about Salo and McNish doing yeoman's work, testing the cars for a year, then racing them a year, then getting fired, surprisingly. Although McNish didn't really seem to take to the pressures of an F1 race weekend, I thought Salo deserved another season.
Still Panis and da Matta are an excellent pairing. Panis will be retired by Toyota I would guess, but I would hope that da Matta be given another season, and hopefully with a team better than Toyota.
The Toyota chassis is one of the heavier chassis on the circuit, apparently. And development is surprisingly slow, in light of the large budget they have. While many teams have new bits and pieces now, (Williams had significant aero upgrades debutting last weekend, McLaren had a whole new car, Renault had new rear suspension in France, BAR debuts new aero this weekend), Toyota are waiting til Germany (July 23-25) to debut a lighter chassis.
While da Matta had a stellar drive last year at Silverstone, he and Panis are saddled with a boat anchor of a chassis this year. Must be very frustrating for them this weekend.

Man, what to say about Schumacher. My picks were ALL wrong. The one-stop worked for the Saubers, and the McLaren is suddenly resurgent. Ferrari must have been freaking when the safety car came out, because of the advantage that the Michelins have in the first three laps of a stint.
But Schumacher just drove a little faster, in a heavier car, no less, and did what he usually does.
Alonso was busier than a one-armed paper hanger. I wish that Barrichello had the speed that he always says that he has. He's fast, but not quite fast enough. That would have been a good battle between he and Raikkonen.
Button and BAR are going in the wrong direction, and does anyone think they reduced the revs on Sato's car? "If you can't drive like a civilised person, we're going to take some revs away, you turkey!"
Trulli's crash was scary. Anyone wondering about the strength of a modern F1 car need wonder no longer. Man, that was ugly.
But all in all, another workmanlike Ferrari victory. I thought it was funny that they've stopped development on the 2004 car, too. But the rules being up in the air for next year, means that they can't really develop the 2005 car that they already have, to its fullest. Brawn admitted that, as the rules are understood at present, the 2005 car wouldn't pass muster.

Apparently they figured it out meanwhile. Rumor has it that Sato driving over high curbs (rear wheels in the air) caused the engine to overrev momentarily.

When the field received the green flag again on lap 46, Schumacher, and everyone else, drove straight to the checkers without pitting for fuel.
Though Schumacher is a great driver, we need not embellish his performances, even unintentionally. :) His performances stand well enough on their own merits.

...Button and BAR are going in the wrong direction
I wonder if BAR has reached its zenith in F1. The 2nd half of this season will tell us the strength of the BAR team.
I mention this only because I believe that BAR's primary advantage was that they had designed this season's car last summer, when they were running the more narrow (read legal) tread width of the Bridgestone front tire. While the other Michelin runners had designed their '04 cars last summer for the wider tread of the Michelin front tire of the time. Then, after Hungary (in late August when most design work been finalized), FIA announced that they would inspect tread width after each race. So last November, when BAR announced their switch to Michelin race rubber in 2004, their car became the only 2004 Michelin runner, (besides possibly Renault who designs on a 2 year cycle apparently), which was designed to work well on the legal, narrower front tread width.
Now that the mid-season improvements have been implemented, I wonder if BAR will have the speed to be podium material? F1 is primarily a team sport, so if BAR can score a few more podium placements between now and the end of the season, it would indicate that Dave Richards has built a top class F1 team. I hope that he has, but the proof is in the pudding...
Fisichella put in a nice drive... Does anyone know what it is about his driving technique that makes him a little different from the other drivers? (I've heard this mentioned, but not explained.)
I would hope to see Fisi in a Williams seat next season, next to Weber. Gene did not have the pace, unfortunately.

It's about stinkin' time McLaren steps up with a car good enough for Kimi. Glad to see him podium, after all the blowups this season(literally). If they can just get a few more hp, I think Kimi could give Michael a good run(not for a championship this season, but race by race). Ferrari just seem to have a wicked motor that pulls away on the long stretches. Go Kimi!

And got him in the correct place! Good for him. I'd sure like to see him have a real opportunity to shine.
50 points for me again this week! That ought to help drag me out of the bottom along with last week's 52 points.

Question: How many more years is Schumacher's contract with Ferrari?
I'm only a casual F-1 fan, being more into MotoGP and Superbike. But there's nothing more boring than having the same guy with the same ride year after year, especially when they dominate like Schumacher is doing. It's like Mick Doohan on the NSR500 back in the 90's- same rider, same bike, same results (wins) race after race. Mick himself said it best back then: "Racing right now is boring as (ish)."
Although I'm in awe of Schumacher's incredible talent and Ferrari's techinical and race-management brilliance, this season has really turned me off. I don't mind seeing the same faces year after year, just put them in different cars for chrissakes. I'm glad that Coulthard, Montoya, and Ralf are all moving around, but they're all going to rides that aren't as competitive as the ones they have this year, and none of them have the talent and charisma to turn a dog of a car into a race winner. The only guy I can see being able to do that is Michael Schumacher. He did it at Benetton, he did it for Ferrari, now I just wish he'd take a risk and do it at Toyota. They have deep pockets, don't they?

Wow, great job McLaren. Now that is a comeback. Keep it up, and go BAR! (still a Ferrari fan, just would love to see others win too)

Interesting race. Good job by Fisi, Webber, and Kimi.
Kimi says he'll be winning races by the end of the season. Anyone believe him?

Until the end of '06. There's a good chance he'll retire after that. No reason for him to leave "la familia" at Ferrari. Money isn't important anymore.

Montoya's next year ride is looking better then the Williams at the moment.

What I was thinking, OTG, was that he had just stopped, and because he was running a two-stopper, had to take on more fuel than Raikkonen, who was nearing the opening of his pit window (he would need less fuel, having stopped later than Schumacher) when the safety car came out. Couple that with the safety car period, and I'd imagine Ferrari finished the race with about five laps worth of fuel in the F2004.
Or is my math crazed?

Well, since Mclaren didn't know how long the safety car period was going to be they probably put close to enough fuel into the car for Kimi to complete the race under full race conditions. If so then he would have been quite close to what Michael was running in terms of fuel load. Of course they could have gambled that it would be a long caution and put in less fuel but it didn't seem to be an extra short stop.
