WRX "blacktop" project concept sketches

Hey guys...this is a quick concept I did for a modified 04 wrx.
Hopefully I'll get off my butt and do a bunch of other concepts soon, but I figured I'd post this one for now.
While I personally really like it, it's not necessarily a 'plan' for my car...It's just one concept for a modified wrx that I figured I'd share with you.
Here's the scoop on this concept:
"Blacktop" 2004 WRX sedan
Overall theme: simple, mean, aggressive, a tool to get the job done.
Power mods: Street-friendly 300-350hp. I don't care how it's done as long as it works and has a nice powerband.
Suspension mods: Have to be fully adjustable coilovers and full braces for bumpy street use. Focus on adjustablity and all-around performance.
Wheels: Some sort of chunky business-like 5 or 6 spoke wheel...I'm thinking of the style of the Rays STI wheels or the OZ chrono evolutions. Satin black center spokes with polished lip. 17" for all around fun.
Exterior mods: Satin black hood (maybe painted CF), Satin black roof (hence the name), Satin black trunk (maybe painted CF or FRP), Satin black Mine's style lip spoiler, Satin black front lower lip (RM racing style). Single WRX badge. Single no-frills 3" pipe out the back. Painted side skirts. Badgeless fog covers.
Interior: A couple of nice black recaros. Greddy peak/hold Boost and EGT guages.
On to the sketches!

Enjoy!
Jon
PS for anyone wondering, the sketches were originally based off of photos of my stock 04. The sketches were done using a Wacom Cinteq18SX monitor/tablet, Alias Sketch, and a little Adobe Photoshop.

Haha wow... Funny you posted this cuz a few months ago I was thinking of getting a Kaminari cf hood and cf trunk and then wrapping the roof in carbon fiber (just tossing around ideas). But I have a sunroof so that probably no fly in jamaica.
If someone makes their car like this that would be HOT:banana:

is there such a wing like that available I havnt seen such a style since i think vw/bmws....?
| Absolut | 09-07-2003 06:35 PM |
Yeah that's definitely like the sexiest wing I've seen on a Subaru in a long time, gives it a very classy look. Up until that, my favorite trunks on the 02-04 models are with nothing on them.

for the GC style...there is the Bomex Wing that is somewhat like that. I almost had that wing too...but then decided to either go CF trunk or 22b wing.

Do it, looks good.

nice drawings....

but doesnt that rear spoiler remind you of what is on a nascar?
| Capt Crunch | 09-08-2003 10:42 AM |
Like the other guy said, make the roof carbon fiber along with the hood and trunk. That would be cool.

Thanks guys for all the comments...
I do it for a living actually...I'm graduated with a BID (bachelors of industrial design) from Syracuse and now work for GE Medical Systems as a designer....which means I do a lot of sketching, conceptual ("future") type work, and a lot of CAD work. I was originally going to go into auto design but was kind of turned off to it after having an internship at GM design in Michigan.
If you have any particular questions about design or the auto design field, just shoot me a PM and ask. :)

That is one impressive looking car. Just my style. Too bad I can't find a front lip like that, unless you know something I don't. :)
Where are the sideview mirrors?

No..the front lip idea came from the RM Racing front lip I had on my 99 GSX. I think they also make them for NSX's and S2000's. Wish someone made em for the wrx...

LOL I was waiting for somebody to notice the lack of mirrors. :D It's one of the classic "concept car" tricks.
Use this handy guide next time you go to an auto show. :)
How can you tell it's a concept car?
a) it has 19-22" wheels
b) it has fender flares
c) it doesn't have anywhere for a plate to go
d) it has no wipers
e) it has no mirrors
f) it has "rear view cameras" LOL
g) whats under the hood is most likely fake and is probably 3 sizes too big for the car (the pamela anderson concept car syndrome)

Those sound like pretty good rules to go by. I agree with everyone else, that is very well drawn. Nice concept, too. I've always liked the no-bull utilitarian look myself.

no CF! satin black would look great, IMO. Or, a dark silver car w/ Black hood, roof, and trunk. I'm liking that trunk spoiler. :)

Somebody definately needs to produce a rear spoiler like that. I would gladly trade my STi spoiler for one...
