06 front end conversion part 1

wrxburton 09-03-2006 06:57 PM

06 front end conversion
is it possible to convert the 06 headlights to the older 02 bugeyes? it seems to me all one would have to do is cahnge the radiator support and everything should just bolt up, right?
robbieshonda 09-03-2006 07:10 PM

You probably could and if you were closer to me and had a black car I'd try it.

hes got an 02 too you would just swap front ends and end up with the same car:confused:
druxboyz 09-04-2006 03:04 PM

lol. its all in the imagination.

they can do it for experience too.
AltronX 09-04-2006 03:06 PM

hey be my guest. someone did it with an 05 so i dont see why you cant do it with an 06
Zsbaug24 09-04-2006 03:27 PM

I've said it before and I'll say it again. WHY!? The redesign is much better for cooling and aerodynamics. Plus with the redesign the car got longer so I doubt that everything is exactly the same and would simply "bolt up". Don't bother, it would be costly and you'd have an inferior car when you were done.
dodiox 09-04-2006 03:39 PM

that is the MOST stupid thing i've heard here!
making a new car look old. very very smart!
if you wanted the ulgy looking bugeye why in the first place did you buy the 06? just put the motor in the budeye and thats it.
you people are weird!
Dynobyte 09-04-2006 03:41 PM

hmm backwards?
you'd need 02 front fenders.
head lamp support bracket.
heres a kit to make an 04 an 06.
http://www.chargespeed.com/english/gdb-cde-f-e1.htm
check out the oem list. add in a proper bumper of your choice.
but yeah, thats to convert to an 06.

I'd pretty much agree, if you want a bug eye look you could have saved lots o cash getting a used 02 03 vs a new 06. but what ever floats your boat is cool.
you can sell your new headlamps and fenders and it probably wont cost too much.
an 02 MBP won't match a 06 OBP.

i dont kno edo performance did a 05 to 02 conversion, and i think its awesome.. now its a bug eye "real" sti. I've been contemplating changing my 05 front to a 06 but no one seems to say what exactly is involved.

its all right there to convert to an 06 from 05.
theres a short list of oem parts (inc headlamps of course) and you'll need your bumper of choice, oem or one of those wicked chargespeed bumpers.

Yes he does but you didnt read the question.
wrxburton 09-04-2006 06:40 PM

yeah but if i just put an sti motor into an 02 it would not even come close to the performance of a new STI. but i love the bugeyes. and no ofense but a real wrx has foglights. big a** foglights. I dont like the new front end. looks kinds like a new hundai, just my opinion
Chp_Stix 09-04-2006 11:02 PM

not so easy we acctually looked at doing a front end swap on a 05 STi because the guy likes the front end, and it is a huge cut and weld process you need to basically re weld the whole front clip from what we could see, side by side they are quite different
Donzo 09-04-2006 11:06 PM

I'm not going to bother reading all the replies to this but one thing to think about... the '02 black isn't even close to the '06 black. I almost bought '02 side skirts for $50 but they have a navy blue tint to them. So make sure you're ready to repaint the car even if everything ends up fitting.
imprezawrx1212 09-04-2006 11:10 PM

I am prety sure all you would have to do is remove all the sheet metal... I believe the specs are all the same, not sure about 06 though. If it is it sholdn't be too hard....
Probably just take off the fenders, hood&scoop, bumper support, lights, various clips and bolts and brackets may be differnt...
I will look tomorow and see if they use the same spec sheets for the front ends if you would like... I would imagine so. And I read somewhere that all that has changed is basically the sheet metal..
Let me know if you decide going through with this!
02R6 09-04-2006 11:18 PM

You guys crack me up. People like you never seem to understand that looks are a matter of taste. If somebody wants everything the '06 has to offer except for the looks who are you come down [insert Phil Hartman voice here] on him/her for it?

I would do it to save my bugeye front. Fizzauto had a white wrx show at the Philly SEMA show that had a 02 to 06 front convo. Look it up.

yah i just figured that out oops
Lexington 09-05-2006 08:21 PM

it is MUCH easier and cheaper to swap some body panels (if they are the same color) than a motor... trust me..
RBelcher00 09-05-2006 08:32 PM

Are some of you guys joking?

He has a 2002 and wants the 2006 front end. Or just the headlights... Not sure if that would work. Anyway, you guys are cool.
EricK 09-05-2006 09:09 PM

I want to do the 05 to 06 change really bad but man the parts alone to do it would set ya back a ton.
wrxburton 09-06-2006 02:51 PM

i have an 02 but i was ASKING if it were possible to switch an 02 front ONTO an 06 STI. I dont see it beiing that expensive, the most expensive part seems to be the radiator support, everything else you can get pretty cheap or just start out with aftermarket parts, aqua fenders, seibon carbon hood, lightweight front bumper support, sti grill, JDM headlights, I love the stock bumper s that would have to stay with the oem lip or sti lip. i figure lowball figure around 2000 it could be done. cheaper then an engine, tranny, suspension, brake, upgrade and its a new car. body is made stiffer for 06 and the suspesion has changed a bit.

EarlQHan 09-06-2006 03:39 PM

I would LOVE to swap my 05 front end to an 06. Why? Zero/Sports widebody! Yummy.
digitalmethods 09-06-2006 05:17 PM

I'd love to see an 06' bugeye. I don't think a swap would be that hard. It might not cost that much either. Buy a front end off of a rear end wrecker and you can do it in a day. Then paint it up. Depending on your resources you could do it. I personally love my bugeye and definately understand why you don't want the new end... As far as aerodynamics and whatnot. Are you serious? Do you think you'd pull on someone or brake any better because of a front end face lift. I don't understand why so many people would be against this. I would love to see it. It's his car. Everyone has no objection to slapping a huge turbo on their car but if you want to change some panels it turns out nuts...
imprezawrx1212 09-06-2006 10:03 PM

I agree! I would love to see an 06 turned into a bugeye1!! Especially an sti... that would be sick nasty:devil:
bigworm 09-06-2006 11:26 PM

ive been wanting to change my05 front to the 06 front. but since my 05 is psm and there is not a psm 06 made and i like white better id repaint my car the stock psm mixed with some pearl white, with all the work involved in this its gonna be a while especially since i need other things first.
imprezawrx1212 09-10-2006 05:08 PM

I like the 05 front end better
E-Wrex 10-10-2006 08:56 PM

I would probably look into a front end swap from an 06, as it has actually grown on me, depending if it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. I've seen in person an 02 WRX with an entire 06 STi front end, and the 06 rear bumper, lights, wing, roof wing thingy, and side skirts. It can be done, but I don't know what the cost. All I know is the whole mess was on ebay and it sold for 15,000. I saw the car at a salvage shop, it did have a salvage title, but it all lined up pretty straight from my brief inspection.
culturedetox 10-11-2006 10:52 AM

06 STI meaness with the pretty face of a bugeye... omg that would be hawt!
WRXSIG 10-11-2006 03:54 PM

id love to go with an 06 front end. sleek is hot.
1VIPWRX 10-16-2006 11:35 PM

i wouldnt mind doing the swap
