Third brake light delete cover? part 1

Third brake light delete cover?
Trying to find one of these third brake light delete covers for my '06 WRX. I've been searching, seems like www.cc-b.com used to be the place to get them, but now they're out of business.

Also found a site called JW Racing, but they're in Europe and to have it shipped to the U.S. the total would be around $80, a little high for me.

Any idea where else to get these? Do the ones from '04-'05 fit the '06's?

also wonder dose anybody on this forum did that ?
booostfrk 01-05-2007 03:10 PM

You're right, that's not what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for the plastic plate that will cover up the hole left by the removal of the standard 3rd brake light on the rear decklid.
semaj 01-05-2007 03:16 PM

Get a rear shelf from an Impreza that didn't have a 3rd brake light? Like an STi or winged WRX

a winged wrx still has the light in there. Only the sti doesn't have the third light on the rear shelf.
antny 01-05-2007 03:22 PM

I had the one from cc-b when I had my wrx. I totally forgot about taking it out when I traded it in. To bad CC-B closed shop they had some very good hard to find products from orciari. But I understand why they closed, I am sure it is hard to raise twins. Anyway back on topic try and search around for orciari parts IIRC that is who made my third brake delete

My friend's true winged 04 WRX did not have a 3rd light on the shelf. Mine did, however, after inspecting my trunk after removing the wing (was polishing the car), mine was in fact installed by the dealer.

Rather try and stay away from getting a whole new rear decklid, since the covers are only about $10; I'm sure a decklid is tons more.

I'll try and search around for who might sell Orciari.

In the meantime, any other ideas or leads would be appreciated.
bdon22 01-05-2007 03:45 PM

booostfrk if you find out please be sure to post your results here. I just installed an STI wing on my 06 WRX and I'm looking to get a similar part to cover up the hole :)
booostfrk 01-05-2007 03:50 PM

I will. Thus far it doesn't seem to be an easy task.
G3Red04WRX 01-05-2007 03:58 PM

Yea, my wing looks to have been factory installed, and i have the 3rd brake light in teh rear windshield. Im hesitant to remove mine because im constantly debating with myself over going wingless permanently and dont want to have to reinstall it again later.

Good luck finding one, or if your DIY'er just make your own
Thaddy 01-05-2007 04:00 PM

I remember seeing a cover on SubaruProParts or SubaruGenuineParts but I can't seem to find it now...
1cugoblak 01-05-2007 09:48 PM

My 05 WRX did not have a 3rd brake light in the window but to my best observation, it seems that since the premium package came with a rear spoiler from the factory, the did not do the window 3rd brake light. Other cars had them because they may or may not get a wing installed at the dealer. I agree though that a cover has to be much cheaper than a new rear shelf. Keep searching!!
a winged wrx still has the light in there. Only the sti doesn't have the third light on the rear shelf.
Not true. In 04 and up (not sure about 02 & 03) if the WRX came from the factory with the wing it did not have the 3rd brake light on the rear package tray. If the wing was dealer installed then it would have both. My 04 with the factory wing did not have the light. When I took off the wing I had to buy the 3rd light and cut a hole in the rear tray.
antny 01-06-2007 01:46 AM

When I bought my 04 it said the wing came from the dealer on the window sticker and it came with a 3rd brake light on the rear deck.

Bought a 2.5I, installed STI spoiler, still have my brake light on the read deck (not functional). Need a solution!
fasterthanrayswrx 01-06-2007 03:32 AM

eh, seems WRXs come with them and some don't.

Another option would be to find someone that'd went with a carbon trunk or wingless, and trade the rear shelf.
lethal1 01-06-2007 10:45 AM

Subscribed!! We need to find these.
lethal1 01-06-2007 11:04 AM

I think I found one, but they are in the UK. Check this link out http://www.j-w-racing.co.uk/acatalog/MY03__Impreza.html
SubaruGenuineParts 01-06-2007 11:23 AM

Holy 40 british pounds!!! Thats ridiculous 30 just for shipping, these guys must not want to sell any of these.
SedonaRed03WrX 01-06-2007 01:08 PM

EDIT: Firts $ was wrong
Well I just called the Subaru Parts dep. For a factory STi shelf (3rd light delete) $134.00. My cost is a bit lower but not much because I work for a Honda dealership, thus I pay cost.

My normal Subaru parts friend dosent work weekends, the guy who answered the phone askded if a STi was a Cadillac? LOL I really did laugh at him. So Ill call back on monday and see how many he will let my buy at my price to re-sell to you guys at no extra cost if you want? Unless Jamie can give you a better price. Ill post back if Im given the OK

Again, please contact me for information

thank you

I would say that you shouldn't settle for substitutes or knock-offs. Either get an original factory rear decking or leave the third brake light in place.

BTW, I had my windows tinted and now you can't see the third brake light housing at all. So if you consider tinting you won't need to do anything else to the rear deck / third brake light assembly. Just remove it temporarily so that the tint shop can do their job.

Otherwise, go with Jamie at Subaru Genuine Parts.
booostfrk 01-12-2007 04:23 PM

I found a another place that I thought sold Orciari, but it turns out they no longer do.

Still on the hunt for this piece.
REVNU 01-12-2007 07:34 PM

I have that piece on my car (05 WRX). Fits great and gets rid of the hole left by the 3rd brake light and it looks OEM. I was really lucky to find mine used here on the forums for about $20.

There was a company, CC-B if I remember correctly that sold them. Not sure if they still do or even if they're still around. Your other option is to keep an eye out on the FOR SALE threads and/or call Jamie at SGP.

One other option is to make one yourself out of fiberglass or aluminum/metal, or have someone make one for you.

it looks so much cleaner when the 3rd brake light isn't there.. its quiet amazing... does anyone have the pics of the brake light there? b/c here are some w/ no brake light

booostfrk 01-25-2007 02:04 PM

Alright, well here's the result.

I searched all over for the cover, wasn't willing to pay $80 to have one shipped from the UK, or pay $100 for a rear shelf without the light or hole.

I couldn't even find a company that sold Oracari and could order one of these from me even if I had the part number.

I posted in the WTB section and someone had one. I guess that's really the best thing to do without spending an arm and a leg. They are out there, and people are selling their cars, have sold them, or don't want the cover anymore. Sucks that it takes awhile, but you can find one eventually.

I could post a pic, but I'm sure everyone knows what it looks like. Let me know if someone still wants to see a couple shots.
antny 01-25-2007 04:35 PM

Yeah it is one of those parts that I forgot I even had on the car. I would have sold it on here but I was tearing apart the car to get it back to stock and that was a piece i wasnt even concerned about when I had 6k dollars of other parts to take off. Glad you found one.
booostfrk 01-25-2007 10:19 PM

I presume you screw it in from the top? The one I got has two holes on the side of the cover closest to the window, and (2) 1"-1/2-ish long black screws.

Just by looking at it it seems like if you screwed it down from the top then the screws would go right into the holes where the stock brake light bolts into. (ie: nothing to screw in to)

Seems like a dumb thing to ask how to install, maybe if I had a chance to look at it longer it would dawn on me. Just looking for the easy answer.
kreitz3 01-25-2007 10:28 PM

I just removed the bulb from the deck light since my car has a dealer installed wing.
antny 01-25-2007 10:57 PM

there should be 2 metal clips that go into the holes where the brake light bolted too. The screws screw in there
booostfrk 01-25-2007 11:00 PM

Makes sense. They can clip on from the bottom then.

Is this something I can pick up at Advanced Auto Parts, or AutoZone. Like a generic clip for different size screws?
antny 01-25-2007 11:20 PM

yeah just something to slide over the metal and a screw can hold against it
REVNU 01-26-2007 01:40 AM

You should be able to find it at an autoparts store. The clip is metal and has a hole though it, that's where the screw threads into it. Best bet is to take the screw/bolt to the store and make sure it's the correct diameter so it "grabs" the hole.

You could even use a nut and washer if you wanted and a matching threaded screw. The screws mine came with were drywall screws and the clips work fine.

i bought a used 04... came with the wrx wing and a 3rd brake light... car was never modded by original owner so... i guess it might have been dealer installed
slowgenius 11-21-2011 06:01 PM

Brake light cover
The 2004 wrx limited edition with the sunroof and heated seats came with a wing from the factory and thus no brakelight on the rear deck. Did anyone ever find the cover?
kevjam79 04-13-2013 05:49 AM

Has anyone seen these lately?
