10th Warrior 11-12-2001 12:13 AM

alright, Congrats GARY!!!! great job.

btw, is the pace car a WRX?
Jerry C 11-12-2001 01:09 AM

NO CONTEST!!

I hate to say this, but there was no compition. Gary and the SUBI just destroyed the Honda's, BMWs, and Acuras. If there had not been a couple of yellow flag laps, I thing he would have lapped the entire field. It was a flawless drive by Gary, and the team really had the car ready!!!
It was a real pleasure to meet all the IClub members, Great turnout!!!
Gary, my wife wants to know if you are going to be one of the instructors at Laguna Seca, on12-14-01, She was very impressed with your drive, (so was I)
Congratulations to all of Team SMR

Travis R 11-12-2001 04:10 PM

Excellent job!
I figured it was just a matter of time. I'm sure your competitors were blaming it on the weather, but I'm sure you would have schooled them in the dry anyway. :D
Uncle_Git 11-12-2001 04:13 PM

Good job - more to follow methinks - some of the BMW teams are probably now very scared of this silly little Japanese 4 banger and it`s pilot ;-)
Ken Levin 11-12-2001 04:41 PM

A great time was had by all Gary's I-Club supporters.

Final round: Laguna Seca - 12/15-12/16
TBreu007 11-12-2001 05:26 PM

Yes!

Great job, Gary...
Do you and your team have any plans for the Speedvision Touring Car Series?
I would love seeing you smoke some Integras too.
TV3WRX 11-12-2001 07:42 PM

Where's Gary?

He's probably still out celebrating......
Philip 11-12-2001 08:05 PM

He is probally trying to find the words to tell the story of the race.... probally pretty difficult when the most difficult part was getting around the people he lapped. ;)

Gary was a racecar driver.

sung to the primus sone jerry was a racecar driver

"Gary was a race car driver
And he drove so goddamned fast
He finally did win a checkered flag
But he never did come in last
Gary was a race car driver
He'd say "El solo number one"
With a kartboy sticker
On his WRX he'd kick their asses
Just for fun"

CONGRATS! I wish i could have been there. any word on an event at road america for next year? i'm pissed that i missed it this year and i'd love to see you race!

rain or not, you deserve this win.... enjoy it! :)

wrx in SVWC

TBreu007:

If the WRX were to compete in the Speedvision World Challenge, it is classed in the GT category not Touring, so it would be up against a blown NSX, M3s, Corvettes, S4s with RS4 engines, etc.

I think it would cost a lot more to run a team in GT than in TC or in the USTCC.

One of the things about Touring Car is that no turbos are allowed so that leaves the 2.5RS

I would LOVE to see a 400hp WRX kick ass in SVWC GT class though. Prolly could get a 6spd tranny approved..maybe the STi engine? hehehe
Scoobyslack1 11-13-2001 08:04 AM

nice job Gary...it's a long way from the Vegas season starter.
TBreu007 11-13-2001 09:03 AM

Oh

Thanks Pio!Pio!, I thought the WRX was T2.

I talked to a guy on the S4 pit crew last year at Sebring...nice guy. He said the S4 was limited to 18lbs boost per class regulations, and it had "pretty much" stock internals. He said the S4 was around 3000lbs and pushing 400hp.

A WRX with a little *tweaking* could hang. Although I think getting 400hp out of a stock turbo would be a little tough. I think AWD cars have to be 3000lbs, so a WRX could have more ballast than the S4 to distribute weight more evenly since it is a lot lighter.

Who knows...maybe in a couple years I'll be there.:)
i-rex 11-13-2001 11:41 AM

Way to go Gary and crew!!! Congratulations.....

Hope it rains at Laguna. ;)

philioWRXman 11-13-2001 12:54 PM

Way to go Gary!

Too bad I couldn't make it out there after all. I couldn't find a ride because my dad wouldn't take me out there. Post more pics everyone!

Gary, updated your team site with the info yet?
GarySheehan 11-13-2001 02:54 PM

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the kind words. We finally did it!!! Thanks to everyone that showed up to support us. What a great feeling it was to be surrounded by people that really wanted us to win and were there to celebrate with us afterwards!

I'm working on the weekend recap. I should have it done shortly. There's a lot to cover since I didn't get the chance to write about the California Speedway debacle.

I'll let everyone know when it's up.

If you're REALLY bored, you can read this old story from last year's Laguna Seca race when we were driving the Honda del Sol in the USTCC. You can find it here.
