2003 SCCA ProRally Season Begins Here!!!
2003 Sno*Drift SCCA ProRally

See European and North American rally drivers battle it out in a rally that's getting to be more like "mud drift". :D

Last year we had mini Subaru meet and met Mark Lovell, Ramana Lagman and some SOA PR guys. We got some sweet swag (hats, posters, calendar, etc.) from them. :D

Not sure when/where we could plan a meet since Parc Expose isn't in Atlanta this year.

We also had a Subaru dinner in Gaylord (where many of us stayed.)

Anyway, let's get something organized!!!!!!!!

Hope to see you there.

hey mykr, are you actually gonna make this rally!?! :p

i'll be up there competing as usual... hoping to make it through w/o a DNF *knocks on wood*

hoping for snow too! *knocks on wood again*
dwx 01-07-2003 12:02 AM

Heh as usual? You didn't even go to the one last year did you? Are you co-driving for someone?
mykrrrr 01-07-2003 04:50 AM

Trav - I only seem to miss Objiwe (sp?) and LSPR. I've made it up to S*D for the last three years. This year I think I'll make it up to LSPR as well.

Who you co-driving for???

If I had $$$ and Mike Anderpants got his damn VDub finished I'd possibly co-drive for him. :p

He-he-he, well guess what finally came to life less than 2 weeks ago in my garage? That is right my friend.... it lives!!! Now I'm just waiting on a new radiator, after that it will be road worthy, and yes rally worthy too!! Woo-Hoo!!! I would already have had it done, except this darn radiator that I ordered is taking for-ever (notice how I emphasised the word forever?) at least thats how it feels. Literally that's all I need right now!! So you better be getting your stuff together my friend, because it's going to be done by the end of the month.

Mike
mykrrrr 01-10-2003 04:21 PM

You're not planning on running it @ Sno*Drift are you Mike???

I'll be coming down there after S*D to build a new scooter motor @ the shop so we'll be testing it out. :)

-mykr.
slidewaysmike 01-10-2003 09:25 PM

That would be a negatory on the Sno*Drift. However I am thinking I could have it all ready by Sandblast, http://www.usrally.com/sediv/sandblast/2003
in the early part of February, but we'll have to see how things go over the next week or 2.

Mike
mykrrrr 01-13-2003 09:22 AM

T T T. :D

I believe some of us IL/MI/WI/OH guys are going to meet up for the press stage which the location hasn't been announced yet.

Please post here if interested in getting a Subaru meet together. Last year we had a small meet and get some SRT USA swag. :D

Also, I think some of us are going to be caravanning from IL to MI. Again, post if interested in meeting up.

Hope to see ya in a few weeks!!!

-mykr.

PS - Jamie...you sure you can't come out for Sno*Drift??? Diggins was asking about you when I talked to him last night. :p
mykrrrr 01-15-2003 10:21 AM

9 days and counting... :D

Can we get a roll call to see who's coming???

-mykr.
slidewaysmike 01-15-2003 07:41 PM

Count me in, but I'm still not sure if I'm heading up early Friday or late Thursday.

Mike
dwx 01-15-2003 07:45 PM

I'm coming up Thursday and will probably scope out some of the stages then. Staying at the Super 8 in Gaylord.

Phil
mykrrrr 01-16-2003 07:18 AM

Now I might be leaving late Thursday nite to get up there in time for the Seed 8 rally school @ 08:30 on Friday. I'll just drive all nite and sleep in the GC. :D

-mykr.
slidewaysmike 01-16-2003 09:33 AM

Well, if you guys are going up Thursday, then I will to. I have that day off, so I can head up any time. Want to split the cost on a room for that night?

mykrrrr--> We still have a room for the other nights right? Just want to make sure we are still a go for Fri/Sat night,
mykrrrr 01-16-2003 10:31 AM

Anderpants - According to Trent we're good to go for Friday/Saturday.

I'll be rolling in early Friday AM so I won't need a place to stay Thursday nite.

--- General Sno*Drift Info ---
We've tentatively come up with a Scooby meet location/time for Friday.

1:00/1:30 pm @ a parking lot across from the Tru-Value in Lewiston. It's close to the location of Parc Expose so we can go check out the rally cars and the people who are working (I might be included in that bunch) can leave for their respective work stations.

Hope to see ya up there.

Subie Gal 01-17-2003 12:26 PM

time to get pumped up people!!!

Mitsubishi Rally Team USA, which made news here last year with the debut of the only works-backed Group 2 Lancer rally car in the world, returns this year with a completely new team, new cars and except for one key player - all new combatants: 2002 Group 2 Driver and Woodner Cup recipient Lauchlin O'Sullivan gets a new co-driver: Mark Williams, formerly of Subaru Rally Team Canada, and is joined by 2002 Driver Champion David Higgins with Daniel Barritt.

Group N runner-up Tim O'Neil makes the jump to Open class, in an all-new Ford Focus - the first Focus seen in the SCCA's top class. Fielded by Andy Brown's AV Sport, and sponsored by the US AirForce Reserve, expect this unique entry to stir up some real commotion at the head of the pack.

Dodge makes their debut as a member of the SCCA ProRally Manufacturers Championship, fielding a Group 2 Neon SXT, with Christopher Whiteman and Michael Paulin in charge.

Subaru Rally Team USA will be holding back their all-new, and rumored to be quite radical WRX-STi's for debut at Rim of the World in May, but will have 2001 Champion Mark Lovell, and rising American star Ramana Lagemann on hand in the last appearance of their 2002 WRX's

. British Rally Championship regulars, and defending 2002 overall champion Jonny Milner, with Duncan McGrath will be doing dual duty this year, gunning for the Group N Championship here, and Milner will be defending his championship back in the United Kingdom.

The Sno*Drift Rally this year moves the pre-event Parc Expose, start and Day-One Service to nearby Lewiston. On Day Two, Sno*Drift's popular single location layout returns to its traditional home, the compact village of Atlanta, MI as operations headquarters, the location of the restart and all services. Sno*Drift has a long-standing reputation as one of the most fan friendly and easiest press coverage events of the SCCA ProRally season, and this year should be no different.

Event Rank:
Sno*Drift is a full-points round for Driver & Manufacturer Championships in the SCCA ProRally.

The SCCA ProRally Championship is presented by Mitsubishi and Subaru, and is televised in North America on SpeedChannel. Time and date listing information available at www.speedtv.com
thechickencow 01-17-2003 02:13 PM

I'm planning on being up there with Phil. I don't think I'll be leaving until early friday am though, so I may miss the press stage. We'll see on that though. I work until 11p Thursday night, so as long as I get some sleep I'll head up pretty early on Friday.

mykrrrr 01-23-2003 10:23 AM

The season starts TOMORROW. :D

Here's the road report from the Sno*Drift site.
Just a dusting of snow last night. Total snow base approx. 3 to 5 1/2 inches of powder snow..
Backroads are very slippery with a lovely iced base and a dusting of snow atop. Best put old tires on the sides of the cars so you'll bounce off the trees and just floor it all the way from start to finish..

Snow banks along the roadside are still small but have formed a nice railway.

No heavy snows expected but we must hope for suprises. Temperatures are going to remain well below freezing (it was -9F this mornin') for daytime highs and light lake effect snows are expected to continue daily.

Temperature highs on Friday in the high teens, Saturday in the low 20's. Nighttime lows will be between -5F to +5F.

Sno*Drift Rally members and spectators should bring the best of the best of winter gear to fend off potential sub-zero temperatures
Hope to see ya there!!!

-mykr.
MrHorspwer 01-23-2003 11:17 AM

I will be at the pratice stage and at the meet. Just me this year... everyone who I planned on bringing dropped out, so I'll be flying solo. I'm leaving Detroit EARLY Friday morning (4 AM) to be in Atlanta by 9 to pick up my spectator guide at the hotel and be on my way to the pratice stage. Anybody have any ideas as to the best spectating spots at the pratice stage? Are there any cross roads to spectate at or do you have to walk in from the start?

Look forward to seeing everybody at either the pratice stage or in Lewiston.
MrHorspwer 01-23-2003 04:44 PM

Looking at my map from last year, the pratice stage is the same as stages 1 and 4 last year. There are no cross roads in the stage so you'll have to hike in from the start or finish.

Looking over Saturdays schedule, I think I'm gonna try to catch stages 8, 12, 13 or 14 (there is a service between 12 and 13, it'd be close), and 17. I wish I could find start times for each stage:confused:
