$600 which cf hood part 1

Turbosuby 02-24-2005 10:26 PM

$600 which cf hood
I have 600bux and i need a cf hood for my 03wrx. Options are seibon, vis, invidia, and apc. Which one will be the best bang for the buck, also open to other brands if they are worthy.
Rallycarperson 02-24-2005 10:34 PM

Seibon and VIS are high quality hoods. They are the majority here, because of their good fit, quality, and appearance.

how about the invidia hoods? are they any good? also i don't want to use hood pins, which brand would be strong and hold without the hood pins?
teh Phil 02-24-2005 10:57 PM

From what I've read, Seibon seems to be the best. Not using hood pins is risky, but the next best option is getting the latch molded into the CF itself, and i think Seibon is the one that does that.

I'm trying to decide what to do when I get an FMIC... Switch to just a reverse hood scoop, or this:

Seibon
Uncle Ben 02-25-2005 04:16 AM

No one else thinks those giant side vents on the Seibon are the least bit unattractive in appearance? Reminds me of an armored lizard for some reason...
Turbosuby 02-25-2005 04:39 AM

Those hoods maybe nice and all, but like you said they are ugly and i have to agree with you, it looks like it's been skinned to death.
ATX25RS 02-25-2005 04:39 AM

looks like a hot wheels..... :D

i really like the hood....in person, it seems a bit over the top...i would say VIS in stock style...i dont remember but i think vis can be had with integrated scoop....
llhype12ll 02-25-2005 05:24 AM

if youre in socal, VIS is the best place to do a pickup.
If you know the owner, he wouldn't charge you too much plus without taxes.

I got the CF invader hood (94-01 integra) for $300 OTD.
brcewane 02-25-2005 10:03 AM

I love my seibon 02-03 OEM style :D

EZ Rider 02-25-2005 07:28 PM

Curious what the weight savings is on a hood like that over the stock aluminum ones?
Curious what the weight savings is on a hood like that over the stock aluminum ones?
Not much on the aluminum hoods of the WRX/STi... only like 8lbs... it is more for the Bling Bling factor:D... I just like how it looks.. I am putting my blue STi scoop on mine and selling the CF scoop. I have some other CF stuff on the front end of my car.

Turbosuby 02-25-2005 08:12 PM

Hey brcewane that hood is hawt, are you going to use hood pins on the hood?
brcewane 02-25-2005 09:25 PM
Hey brcewane that hood is hawt, are you going to use hood pins on the hood?
Yeah, I'm going to.. better safe than sorry... I just got my vacation days paid out at work too... so hopefully I can get some JDM/EDM projectors to go on this spring too :)

Just have to get it past my wife :disco:
Turbosuby 02-26-2005 12:16 AM

speaking of JDM/EDM lights, i want to do the same thing with my wrx cause it looks the bam, but i always wanted to know what is the difference between them besides the price?
.RYAN 02-26-2005 04:56 AM

One points to the right, the other the left.
llhype12ll 02-26-2005 05:22 AM

About APC (i know its crap), you can get a good deal on them when APC warehouse in temecula, CA have their warehouse sale.
I remember its like 90-120 for a CF hood.
lawn boy 02-26-2005 09:18 PM

i love my VIS "tracer" style. its more of an exact replica of the c-west than the seibon. the vents along the side don't pop up, theyre flush mounted in the hood. I'm installing hood pins this spring.
Turbosuby 02-27-2005 04:11 PM

brcewane i forgot to ask where you got your seibon hood from and how much was it shipped? Thanks, if it's too much i will go with carbon specials cf hoods.
brcewane 02-27-2005 06:04 PM

I actually got it in a group buy on a local Toronto Subaru Club message board.... But it was 524 CDN (422 US).. They were drop shipped at a local guys house where we picked them up so it included shipping.. couldn't let that deal go by... plus each order got free hood pins with it as well :D
Turbosuby 02-27-2005 09:06 PM

lucky guy, i am jealous.

I like the vis
yagotrice 02-28-2005 12:09 AM

Just got mine from siebon which cost me almost 900 buckets with shipping. Now i just have to put it on, hopefully it will match my new c-west kit.
15secWRX 02-28-2005 12:34 AM

why not go kaminari? no one has mentioned this hood yet...i like it!

Turbosuby 02-28-2005 03:27 AM

don't the kaminari hood work for the fmic wrx, mine doesn't have fmic, besides it's expensive i think it's around $850.
dj73 02-28-2005 05:54 PM

who stock's the Kaminari hood's ? or what's there web site :D
da n00b 02-28-2005 06:24 PM

I'll give you a CF hood for 325 :)
bjy20716 02-28-2005 06:38 PM

So even with the VIS and Sebion hoods that have the hood latch you need the hood pins?
I also want to get a CF hood soon

It is recommended by all CF hood manufacturers.. (You will most likely even see disclaimers on their websites saying that they "require" hood pins with all of their aftermarket hoods to cover themselves legally)... you may be one of the lucky ones that never have any problems, or become one of the horror stories that do... It is really up to you to risk it or not...

How is the install of the hood pins? Is it difficult to do? I want to do a CF hood as well..

Another question is the duarability. I do some highway driving on occasion and I have a couple of nasty rock chips on my current hood. Are the CF coatings more durable than the Suby paint?
